Dear Mom,
As for our election, it will be close in the popular vote, but McCain will win it. It won't be a landslide, probably, and the Democrats will retain both houses of congress.
I will enjoy this victory very much. I like McCain and I LOVE Sarah! He's a populist but she's a libertarian. He stands for some outrageous limitations on the freedom of speech, since he authored Campaign Finance Reform. Many of us see him as a very dangerous man, but look at who he picked to succeed him! She's a sweetheart and a strong woman. She's the only one who has experience governing a town and a state.
• This is shaping up as a referendum on the press. I feel very bad about what the press is doing to impose Obama on us. There will be some voters who vote GOP just out of outrage about the excesses of the liberal mainstream media, headed up by the NYTimes. They have become the pro-JIHAD, pro-Democrat, copperhead press. You might call them the Democrat's press corps. They are clueless about real Christians, thinking that we would be outraged at hearing that Sarah's daughter was pregnant out of wedlock. If they want to know what Christians think, I would suggest they get a few in their circle of friends and listen to them politely, keeping the sneering down to a dull roar. The press is doing a lot of damage to their credibility and leaving everyone with the sense that they are the "Enemedia". To know about the Evangelical church-goer, they would need bilingual interpreters. They just don't listen to us or know what we think. They are in a bubble and make us hear them without ever listening. As Rush says about anything in the NYTimes, "I wonder if that could be true?" A broken watch tells the right time twice a day. It's about that often that we can thank the lazy, complicitous, left-dominated media for doing its job and serving the Republic. They could save a lot of money on newsprint if they would just stop printing all their sneers about Christians and people in "fly-over country".
• Independents will not want to see one party control both the White House and the Congress. They will try to keep power divided between the 2 parties so that nothing too radical happens. If one party is in full control, that means laws will get passed and signed. Libertarians would rather not see that happen. They like what has happened in the past 2 years with a Democratic-controlled Congress (9% approval rating) passing laws that never get signed.
• There is a big Second Amendment constituency that turns out to vote to a considerable degree. They will vote for him. The NRA is growing more strong and confident than it has ever been and will produce "issues ads" that take Obama to task. There is a lot for them to say, too. There is a lot of talk on the internet about how Obama would make private gun ownership difficult or impossible, especially in cities. We have him waffling on the issue, first saying he agreed with Washington DC's prohibitions and then saying he agreed with the Supreme Court on the historic 5-4 decision that they made recently. 2nd Amendment supporters will feel that this margin was unacceptably small, that there were 4 justices(!) who wanted to annul the 2nd Amendment. This group will be working hard to get the elderly liberal justices replaced with strict constructionists.
• The abortion and infanticide lobby will try to polarize the electorate, as Obama is already doing in his ads, but that will only make the Evangelicals turn out with greater passion in order to vote for the sanctity of human life. They will be voting for 2 very clear advocates of the pro-life issue. Many will be looking at how Obama promoted infanticide to the point of voting against the law saying that "born alive infants" must receive medical assistance, even though the intention was to kill them.
• The Jewish voter will be less inclined to vote Democrat than before, since Lieberman has come out for the McCain/Palin ("POW/WOW")* ticket. There is no greater danger to Israel than Obama in the presidency. He is said by some to be running to fill Jimmy Carter's second term.
• The pro-marriage person will be concerned about Obama being the most openly pro-gay, anti-marriage person ever to run for president. He wants to get rid of the Defense of Marriage Act that Clinton signed into law. This would be a catastrophe for everyone.
• The anticommunist will be alarmed that an advocate of the Communist Party USA's agenda is running with their blessing and support.
• Patriots will be alarmed that he was a close partner with AYERS and other bombers, working with him on the Chicago Annenburg Challenge project for 4 years and then wanting to cover it all up. He refuses to fly the flag on his private jet or on his chest. He doesn't put his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is played. He and Osama can both talk about their bomb-throwing friends. McCain can show what it means to defend and protect the USA.
• Many conservatives and independents are alarmed that the Democrats led by Obama will try to impose the "Balance in Media" policy on AM radio again, forcing conservative viewpoints off the airwaves, where listener support puts them, and making liberal viewpoints obligatory, whether anyone wants to support them financially or not.
• The military voter will be strongly attracted to McCain, seeing in him a very competent future Commander in Chief. In time of war, we need that.
• The DNC never made one mention of the war ("Global War on Terrorism") at their convention. Not one. There are many who will be moved to think of them as the party of defeat and surrender. They will be right. We are at war, and we haven't won yet. Their votes made possible our response to aggression but now they are showing a lack of character and courage. It will cost them.
Blacks will nearly all vote for Obama. Everyone else will be unmotivated race, voting instead on the basis of factors such as national defense, 2nd Amendment, sanctity of life, freedom of the airwaves. definition of "marriage", ... This isn't a referendum on whether we are racists.
It would seem that the factors I mentioned would mean that there would be a huge landslide for McCain/Palin, but that won't likely happen. The demagogic Stalinistic press will limit the damage to Obama of his views.
In a better world, he never would have been invited to the convention, much less get its nomination. I don't discount the possibility that they will see reason and try to get him replaced by a stronger candidate, such as Hillary. One of her supporters, a Philadelphia lawyer is suing to keep him from being their nominee, alleging that he cannot run, not being a "native-born citizen".
So there, you heard my views, if you got down to this point.
Love,
Keith
