:flag17: Welcome to :gopusa:

Good morning! :wavey:

Summer is supposed to return here today. It's been lovely weather in the 70s but today will probably be an AC day. :cold: It sounds like some of you in Florida are really, really wet. :yikes:

Another day, another 1000 rumors. One says that Lieberman will officially become a Republican at our convention. That would give us the majority in the Senate until January. If this is true Harry Reid's head will explode. :reid:

For whatever it's worth the pollsters John Zogby and Scott Rasmussen were on Hannity's radio show yesterday and both expect McCain's VP pick to be Mitt Romney. For Obama they both agreed it would be Joe Biden. From their lips to God's ear. Both of those would just tickle me pink.

Conservatives are unhappy about the speaker lineup at the convention. It's moderate. McCain's a moderate maverick. What did we expect?

Jerome Corsi, author of Obama Nation, and WND's featured flake announced on H&C last night that he won't be voting for John McCain. It's all about the almighty dollar for this 911 Truther, NAU conspiracy theorist. :ugh:

I understand that the American Independent Party is holding a convention, in a phone booth, somewhere. Actually, they are nominating Alan Keyes online. I like technology and all but that speaks to impossibility. :laff:

I still think it's going to be Hillary. :hide:

Quotes of the Day: "Yesterday, Senator Obama got a little testy on this issue, he said I am questioning his patriotism. Let me be very clear, I am not questioning his patriotism, I am questioning his judgment. Senator Obama has made it clear he values withdrawal from Iraq above victory in Iraq. He has made these decisions not because he doesn't love America but because he doesn't think it matters whether American wins or loses." ~ John McCain

"With both presidential candidates addressing the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention this week (John McCain on Monday and Barack Obama on Tuesday), Gallup finds that registered voters who have served in the U.S. military solidly back McCain over Obama, 56% to 34%." ~ Gallup

"Joe will be very happy in the Republican party where the dominant ethic is selfishness -- he's just like Barry Bonds when it comes to selfishness. If you're hanging off the edge of a cliff by a rope, you don't want to look up and see Joe Lieberman... I'm sure he'll be just as loyal to the Republicans as he was to us." ~ Paul Begala, bitterly clutching his Democrat playbook :gag:

"I think it would be a thing of beauty if, when Lady Liberty looks out on the horizon, she not only welcomes new immigrants but lights their way with a torch powered by an ocean wind farm." ~ Michael Bloomberg,

"You know, I've seen this campaign before: I think it was 1988. ... It's what happened to Dukakis. You know, he wouldn't support the Pledge of Allegiance in the classroom. What's he up to? What's his problem with the flag?" ~ Chris Matthews :melt:

Well it is going to be another hot day in Atlanta and burbs today.

DISCLAIMER.....
I was in a lot of pain last night and had to take some vicadin. So I will be posting through a bit of a haze for much of the day.

I understand that the American Independent Party is holding a convention, in a phone booth, somewhere. Actually, they are nominating Alan Keyes online. I like technology and all but that speaks to impossibility. :laff:

I think we will see the independant party candidates picking up a lot of new support in this election. Unfortunately I also see them not making much more difference than passing gas in a windstorm as usual. Their only possible effect without coverage by the MSM will be as spoilers as they take votes away from the two main candidates. Who they will hurt most is still uncertain.

Think of the three stooges. One of them would hold up his hand and tell the other to pick two fingers. It didn't matter which two fingers he picked he would get them poked in his eyes. Does this remind you of anything; like our upcoming election???
( and yes I did pick this up from the Glen Beck show)

For whatever it's worth the pollsters John Zogby and Scott Rasmussen were on Hannity's radio show yesterday and both expect McCain's VP pick to be Mitt Romney.
I've got my fingers crossed.

"Yesterday, Senator Obama got a little testy on this issue, he said I am questioning his patriotism. Let me be very clear, I am not questioning his patriotism, I am questioning his judgment. Senator Obama has made it clear he values withdrawal from Iraq above victory in Iraq. He has made these decisions not because he doesn't love America but because he doesn't think it matters whether American wins or loses."
I saw the video of this quote yesterday, and it looked like McCain was reading it off a teleprompter or notes on the floor near his feet. It had a lot less impact on me watching it then hearing it. He is not that good when reading from a teleprompter, that may hurt.

Gas at $3.40 today. Just imagine what can happen if we ACTUALLY started drilling, we may get it down to the 15 cents a gallon the Chinese pay.

Have a good day.

Did any of you read this article I posted?

Yep. Did. One can expect just about anything from the man who backed and funded Bill Clinton.

Supposed to be hotter :gag: today. Would rather have it cooler, but what can one do about it?

I'm glad to see the McCain campaign is getting up on its hind legs and fighting back. Obama has so many questionable "friends" they'd be crazy not to.

And what's up with the U. of Illinois not releasing Barry's records? Could there be a close connection between him and Da Mayor? Doesn't sound like "Change" to me. Sounds like the same ol', same ol'.

"You know, I've seen this campaign before: I think it was 1988. ... It's what happened to Dukakis. You know, he wouldn't support the Pledge of Allegiance in the classroom. What's he up to? What's his problem with the flag?" ~ Chris Matthews

Sounds as though that tingle may be running back down Chris's leg!

Laurie, belated :HB2: to your 26 year old sonny. Wow! Are you ever getting old! :rotflo: To quote OW: :hide: Is it safe to come out now? :hilarious:

Time for the forum.

Good morning everyone! Feels like fall here. Yesterday it was 9 degrees cooler than normal. Weatherman keeps telling us it's going to warm back up to summer temps, but it hasn't yet. It's been cool since the end of July. No talk of GW here.

I think the kids are ready to get back to school. They are doing quite a bit of :argue: lately. I took :boy: school shopping yesterday and out to lunch. :tails: had already had her day of shopping a couple of weeks ago. I take them separately and try to make it a 'special' day for each of them by going out to lunch and making it into a fun trip for each. I have one more shopping trip to fullfill the teacher's list of supplies each will need by the first day of school. Think we will do it today and get it over with.

Will all due respect, I submit that there is almost nothing left that anyone can say without offending someone.
Very true. We need to get back to voicing our opinions without fear of using words that might offend others, but it's become such a part of society, it's hard to unlearn it. There are just too many words that others take offense at. Remember the official losing his job over the word niggardly? I suppose that word has now been removed from our dictionaries. :ugh:

Good morning, and God Bless America, First day of school here, and it took me twenty minutes to go a miles distance. When I lived in the Denver metro area most people had figured out if you let every other car enter the highway traffic continues to move. Maybe at a slower pace, but a pace much quicker then this dead stop bologna "hoping" for a considerate person. Kinda gets me all giddy when I refuse to block an intersect, knowing the stoplight will probably turn red before I have sufficient room to move forward. If car horns fired projectiles every time pressed, my car would have dimples. Times like that bring back fond memories of my truck driving days, and the ominous sight of a cement mixer letting, inconsiderate, drivers taste the results of their actions. Anyone blocking someones RIGHT of way, will continuosly act of their vacuous, self-love, if not taught of its impediment on others.

"If this is true Harry Reid's head will explode." Will explode? I was under the impression it had already exploded, and, left on his shoulders, the vacuum created of the explosive force.

"and both expect McCain's VP pick to be Mitt Romney." From my point of view, Mitt Romney would be a great pick, has VP, or any administrative office, just as the whole field of Republican primary contenders, would be. McCain is in the cat bird seat related to his choice of Republicans capable of filling the VP slot. When compared to what the demoncrats have to offer, the best they can do we saw in their presidential primaries. Vice Presidential contenders the whole lot. Not a leader in the bunch of them, having the qualifications to be leader of the United States. But they can take orders from leaders, and act according to the leaders bidding. The best the demoncrats can do is present vice presidents up to the devices of their leaders.

I'd mostly agree, with the exception of Guiliani.... I actually really wanted Romney to be the nominee anyways so I hope he gets the pick as VP.

I'm sorry, you will have to look downthread for this post to make sense. I was responding to a comment in the previous post that the poster removed while I was typing. I've reposted it further down.

Here is the point, treachdc.

Neither Hannity, Rush or anyone here is taking God's name in vain when they call Obama the messiah or The One. It is a joke based on Obama's high opinion of himself.

Additionally, I assure you that no one here is comparing Obama to Jesus Christ. They are making fun of his own exalted opinion of himself.

The 4th reference in the dictionary to messiah is this: a zealous leader of some cause or project.

If that doesn't describe Obama, I don't know what does.

I'm sorry that you cannot laugh at the joke. I'm sorry you are offended.

However, I have absolutely no intention of asking anyone here to stop making jokes about Obama.

This political campaign is enough to make anyone cry. Let's take every opportunity to laugh instead.

Whoah, you replied quick..I pulled the comment because i didn't want to start an argument...

However, I have absolutely no intention of asking anyone here to stop making jokes about Obama.[/B]
Not my point, I just thought that this particular way people were making fun was inappropriate. And yes I can laugh at jokes, when they are funny... And no, I am not personally offended by it... It is annoying, and old, and slightly inappropriate which is why I made the comment in the first place.

Terri

Since I responded to it, I will repost your comment here so that it makes sense to everyone else. You've complained about this twice so it's open to discussion.

My comments from last night's thread:
Hannity, Rush, and others do not call Obama the messiah or The One because they think he is.

No one is making fun of God. They are making fun of Obama's opinion of himself.

Your response:
That's not the point. Obviously people like Hannity (who has no right calling anyone arrogant... being one of the most arrogant personas on radio) don't actually think BO IS. .... If someone stubs their foot and exclaims"Jesus Christ!", they are not making fun of God, they are taking his name in vein...
Again, that is not what anyone here is doing.

We are a political forum. We are civil. We are not vulgar or profane. But we do tell jokes and laugh.

That will not change.

Good morning all.

Lieberman for VP? Why? What are the people pushing this trying to do? Do they understand the grassroots of the GOP at all, or is it that they just don't care?

After a week of much needed and welcome rain, the sky is clear today. We averaged about 5 inches, and it all fell in the right places, finally. Our local reservoir may rise up to 10 feet, which is really a relief, since they were talking about having enough water left for only one more year of pumping.

I have a new PC term for you--intellectually disabled, used in a Houston Chronicle article discussing funding for the disabled. You tell me what YOU think it means, I have my own opinion.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Ya'll,

First things first--THANK YOU, Terri. I almost replied to that last night and because I couldn't think of anything to say except, "No, we're just a bunch of heathens" and thought better of it. Figured you would catch it and respond in a nicer way which you did and very tactfully, I might add! Since I've never used God's name in vain, at 77, I'm not even thinking about beginning such a practice!

And, anyone who has read this forum to any extent would see people expressing their faith all over the place--in the context of the subject. And, if we had no beliefs, would we have a prayer thread? I don't even like the word "religious" because it's used in so many ways that have nothing to do with people of faith! As in, "she brushes her teeth religiously"!

Hope John McCain remembers that Lieberman became a pro-abortion guy while running with GORE!!

Just heard on the AP news that BO is 3 points ahead--do they do a new poll every day?

"intellectually disabled, used in a Houston Chronicle article discussing funding for the disabled. You tell me what YOU think it means, I have my own opinion."
Well, they may mean "insane" or "imbecilic" or "slow learners"-but, what do I know--in this politically correct world, using insane is not PC. :ugh:

And, that's about all I have to say right now--ya'll have a great afternoon.

Good morning friends - It's a beautiful day in Denver, but it's supposed to get hot this afternoon.

I'm not looking forward to next week, however, the folks in my office ar soooo excited. Some got tickets to see BHO at Invesco field. Others are taking vacation time to volunteer at the convention. They can't wait to see who they are going to see and possibly rub shoulders with.

Apparently the super delegates are volunteering at various non profits around Denver. I'd like to know how much actual work they do - I think they'll just get in the way of the actual work. Here's the link: http://www.denverpost.com/politics/ci_10254816.

I'll do my best to keep everyone posted. At least my office will be quiet next week!

I'd better not see any Obama material or I'm putting back up my McCain picture!

As for Joe becoming a Republican, I suppose he might, bit I'll believe it when I see it.

Greetings GOP USA from somewhere in the Mitten's "little finger"....
Hubby couldn't possibly have picked a better week for a vacation. It has rained here once, while we were in an auditorium at the Interlochen Center for the Arts (formerly known as the National Music Camp). Sadly, the rain fizzled before it got to our home part of the Mitten.
We have had lots of fun running around looking at scenery, climbing the dunes at Sleeping Bear, taking a day trip to and van tour of Beaver Island, running up and exploring the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas, and even visiting friends. A member of our church family owns the Scalawag's in Traverse City, so we made sure to eat lunch there (YUM!) and say howdy.
This afternoon we are just potato-ing a bit and I am getting caught up here. Missed a couple of birthdays, hope AJ's and (gracious who's Sonny was that? :confused2: ) 's special days absolutely :sparkle: ed.
Guess I too am going to get picked on but I'm with Terri--I too have a bit--just a bit--of sympathy for Dianne Feinstein. I don't wish suffering on my worst human enemy. I know who my real enemy is  Don't know if she had surgery like Terri and me, but after my surg. I did NOT want to do much for a while. Took three miserable back-and-tush-achy days in bed before I could even handle the idea of a commute to the living room sofa. And even then, I was under strict orders from the surgeon to do NOTHING but stay flat on my back with the ankle elevated above the level of my heart, until my follow-up appointment.
Speaking of, my ankle is handling all the hiking pretty well. Wish my knees were, but I have so little to :hissyfit: about. The cane does come in handy. I passed up climbing the Beaver Island lighthouse, but then Hubby and I climbed Big Sable north of Ludington last year, that was magnificent! We have enjoyed walking the downtowns of some of the resort communities around here like Leland and Suttons Bay. Lots of wineries here--hey Schiller!!--we stopped at one, the Chateau Chantal, for a tour. Didn't do any tasting. We enjoy an occasional glass on a special occasion, but we are definitely not connoisseurs.
The Chateau Chantal is on the highest point of land on Old Mission, the view from there is simply spectacular!!
Lots of prayers for all our Floridians, especially Katy and Danny D today. JJ, looks like you're going to need them soon too.
Need to get some stitchin' in before Hubby fixes supper....have a lovely evening y'all!
Blessings,
Sewing Susie :bible:

"I don't wish suffering on my worst human enemy.", And I will give that person a drink of their thirst, but I will not continuously carry water of their excesses. An unquenchable thirst of selfish desires that cannot be satisfied with the water I prefer to carry. The load is light, the path is straight, with stops along the way to share with friends, and enemies alike. It isn't any skin off my back if they do not drink, has they have been presented the opportunity. Shaking the dust off my shoes, along the path I go.

I seem to remember the Democratic Party rejecting Lieberman for his support of the Iraq War. And he's still liberal in almost every area except defense.

Hi everyone. :wavey:

Tropical storm Fay is here. This morning, it was stalled down in Daytona Beach. We are receiving heavy rain and wind. Tomorrow, schools will be closed again. We have a lot of tree limbs down.

The cable went out around 2:00 this afternoon.

We have down power lines across the city and traffic lights are not working. City officials have closed two major bridges here in the city.

Tropical storm Fay will be with a least through tomorrow.

Please keep us in your prayers.

Heard about both of those on MarkLevin's show and he was furious! Of course, they weren't saying what the notes said, just that they were very serious and investigators are already on it and his staff (volunteers at those two places) were getting medical attention just to make sure!
