The speed with which Senator McCain seized the leadership in the first foreign policy crisis of the presidential campaign may not be surprising. Mr. McCain after all, backed the surge strategy in Iraq, while Senator Obama and many others were opposing it. But his emergence on the Georgia crisis is no less impressive. When Russia took advantage of the Olympics to launch an operation aimed at ousting the democratically elected government in a neighboring country that is an aspiring NATO member, Mr. Obama, vacationing in Hawaii, initially called on both sides to exercise restraint. Mr. McCain saw it immediately for what it was, Russian aggression.
President Bush underscored the stakes in his Rose Garden remarks yesterday, saying it appeared an effort was underway to depose Georgia's democratically elected government. "Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century," Mr. Bush said.

This is interesting timing for certain -- just before an election. I wonder what is happening behind closed doors between Bush and Putin. This helps McCain, not Obama. Hmmm....
This shows the lack of experience by Junior Senator Obama and is a good thing for McCain. Obama believes we should turn the entire issue over to the U.N. -- something most independent voters do NOT like. It also shows that Obama does not back our allies when push comes to shove.
There are a number of geo-political factors in play here, including the pipeline and Russia's desire to be a world leader in energy. Their timing during the Olympics is a slap in the face to their neighbors to the south as well.

Russia under Puten will try at all cost to reestablish the old Soviet Union. Obama of course would have no problem with that. Not many socialist/communist like him would.
Obama wants the Useless Nation to handle this while Russia has a veto vote on any resolution.
I'm sure China would vote along with Russia.
It all falls back too the USA to do something and we can't do anything but protest.
Anyway, the Jr. Black Messiah has flunked his first world crisis test.
(Off thread but I wish too thank our sponsors for their support and the change of photos in their ads.....)

Now the big question is: Are the American people seeing that BO was weighed in the balances (the 3AM crisis) and found wanting
Latest polls still show him holding a slight lead over McCain. Do not understand why, but it is there nonetheless
America needs to see the Jr. Senator from Illinois is nothing more than a power-hungry fool who is totally unprepared to be POTUS

Was it McCain who said, "When I look into Putin's eyes, I see 'K-G-B'"?
I've lost a little of my queasiness over him this week.

McCain's toughness should be very obvious to anyone who has been objective in looking at the candidates background.
This man has withstood mental and physical truma in prison that would shake the hardest of the hard.
He has come through it all with an attitude that has to be admired no matter who you are or what one may think otherwise.
He's proven to be tough and experienced under great pressures and stress retaining his patriotic attitude of wanting to serve his country regardless of what has happened to him personally.
I don't think we can say Obama has that kind of leadership strength when we see what his reaction to stress has been.
Maverick, though he may be, he's a tough one and that's what we need to lead our country IMO.
When the world tries to jump on the back of Maverick McCain he'll come out of the chute like a tornado and those "riders" won't stay in the saddle very long.

As far back as 1999, John McCain has warned of Russia's efforts to repress Georgia and saw recent events exactly what they are -- Russian aggression and pursuit of Putin's goal to re-establish the former Soviet Union.
But, always playing it safe, Barack Obama, the appeaser, called for both parties to use restraint. Of course, now that Obama's handlers have had time to advise him, Obama is following John McCain's lead.
Do we really want to put this country in the hands of the inexperienced Barack Obama? If elected, his incompetence will present a very serious and real threat to our national security.
John McCain has again proved his mettle in Foreign Affairs.

McCain may sound strong and on the correct message, but he has "No Charisma" to present it. Some how, I wish somebody would get him to present with more Umphhhhh. It is almost to pitiful.:realitybite s:

hbear, McCain is a man of few words. Yes, I too wish he had a better "Power" delivery when speaking; but we need a man with strength and moral courage as opposed to charisma and looks.
I think he will perform a lot better than Obama ever could when it comes to dealing with the Russians or anyone else because of his experience with the enemies of the US before.

McCain's experience vs Obama's inexperience. That should make anyone "think twice" before voting in November.

Unfortunately the "Personality Cult" approach to politics in this country is getting us into more trouble with every charismatic politician we elect as opposed to politicians with substance whether or not they have "personality".
The only reason Barak Obama has any following is his charismatic personality. Fortunately for the country his almost complete lack of substance is doing him in in the polls.
But if he loses the nomination at the DNC and Hillary takes his place she has a much better chance of winning in November because she can fake the substance part well enough to fool the voters.
And she does have substance; just not the substance I want in the white house.

Ma'am, when he said what Texanna wrote above, he proved that he was more than charismatic enough for me.
Look at the charismatics we've seen before, Clinton, John Edwards, now Barack. I'll take a little good old plain speaking for now.
