View Full Version : My jury duty!

This last Thursday, I was summoned for jury duty at the local Superior Court.

I was seated on a jury by 11:15 am and the judge began to tell the jury something about the case.

The perp was a young Latino male in his twenties. *He was using the service of a court apppointed translator so you can draw your own conclusions about his immigration status.

Anyway, the judge informed the jury that this was a criminal case and that the accused was alleged to have committed sexual molestation of a 7 year old female, family member. *We were also informed that he had committed a similar offense on a 3 year old female in the year 2000. Remember? "They only come to commit the crimes Americans refuse to do!" http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/barf.gif

This brief indoctrination ended at 12:00 when the judge declared recess and instucted the jury to return at 1:30 pm.

I went out for lunch and returned at the appointed time. *We were then informed that the case had been disposed and that the jury was discharged.

I just wonder if it might have had something to do with the fact that while I was seated, looking at the Public Defender, (You don't think these people actually pay for a lawyer, do you) I placed my right extended hand across my throat and drew it back in a cutting motion? *Well really I didn't. *Matter of fact, I wouldn't even look at the perp or the P.D. so as not to give him a reason to kick me.

But I'll assure you of one thing: *I would have listened to the evidence with an open mind. *But doubt very seriously that piece of crap would have walked. *Too many jurors revealed they had daughters during the judge's questioning.

This slime most likely copped a plea and instead of getting 20, he probably pleaded guilty for 10. *But in prison, there really is some kind of honor among theives. *Child molesters are the scum of the earth even among inmates. *Anybody think this guy will last more than a year or two?

Yeah, McCain, Kolbe, Flake and Grijalva! *We really, really need open borders! Hope you Arizonas get rid of every one of them. *Is McCain up for election next time?

And hey! *Ever notice how much Grijalva looks like Poncho Villa?

I wish it were true that this is one of the crimes we refuse to do but unfortunately there are far too many American born citizens committing this same crime.

navyblue, I think these crimes are most often pled out. Juries will hang them a lot faster than a judge will. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mr_yuk.gif

Btw, no child molestor would ever want me on his jury. I'd hang the jury until he got the maximum. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/madgo.gif

Quite true oh illustrious Den Mom! *But there is no denying the fact that there would be far few such cases if our borders were controlled and our immigration laws were enforced.

Oh, and for you Mr. Kecke, maybe we have good reason for not wanting more illegal aliens in our country. *The country with the most violations of our immigration laws already has double the allotted immigration visas than any other country! So please don't give us that prejudice crap. *We are just tired of our country being īnvaded."

You know, I find that so absurd. *So WHAT if you have a daughter? *Doesn't the victim of the crime deserve someone to sympathize with her in that jury box too and make the other 9 see THAT side? *

If that logic really worked, then wouldn't we need 10 people *who have done drugs to be able to be jurors over a drug trial? * Or would the defendent get a bunch of potheads who'd totally sympathize with him and let him off the hook due to their own "prejudices"? *

I guess my question is why the jury is selected soley on what experience they DON'T have as citizens, rather than what experiences they DO have as "regular citizens" - the "PEERS". *

If my wife was hurt by an assailant and he was caught, I'd want 10 guys who have wives and love them dearly, rather than a few guys who dressed up as Star Trek characters to avoid being picked. *But they wouldn't PICK 10 guys with wives. *Someone have any input on this?

Hm! *Not too sure where you are coming from on this AZ. *The point I was making was that the Defense would use their peremtory(sp) challenges to toss out any juror that has a daughter. For precisely the reasons you give above. *In this case, there were just too many jurors with kids that would have prevented this tactic. *Which is why I beleive the plea was taken. The perp was toast and the Public Defender knew it.
