AP Exclusive: US removes uranium from Iraq - By BRIAN MURPHY, Associated Press Writer

The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program — a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium — reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. operation that included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans.

The removal of 550 metric tons of "yellowcake" — the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment — was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam's nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions.

What's now left is the final and complicated push to clean up the remaining radioactive debris at the former Tuwaitha nuclear complex about 12 miles south of Baghdad — using teams that include Iraqi experts recently trained in the Chernobyl fallout zone in Ukraine.

*WHAT?! Uranium? Radioactivity? Nuclear weapons program? Pardon me while I gasp for breath, but those things don't and never did exist according to the Dems, the drivebys and the rest of the American left! Now AP casually admits they did exist?! Hey Joe Wilson, can we say NIGERIAN YELLOWCAKE?!!!! Hey Dems, Saddam was no threat and there never was WMD? How long have all you Treason Lobby goons known about this, huh? Dear friends of the Forum, I ain't mad, I'm %&@#*^ FURIOUS.

:yikes: Gasp, sputter, choke, cough!! Saddam Hussein had all this? Say it isn't so!:woohoo: :p Since this is an AP report, you know there is a lot they didn't say about the yellowcake and the nuke program. I wonder if the administration will fill in the blanks?

I'm sure it has crossed someone's mind that this should be shipped anonymously to Valarie Plame Wilson and her husband Joe, or perhaps to Senator Kerry.

Edited to add
On second thought, with 550 tons of this stuff, there's probably enough to send lots of WMD doubters their own piece of yellow cake.

President Bush should address the nation on this. This needs to be out there to show the world how right it was to go into Iraq.

No WMD, wrong!!!!!!

Congrats guys, you've discovered non-weapons grade uranium that the rest of the world has known about for 17 years. Please read the entire story. This is material that was being legally stored under the watch of the U.N and the IAEA...hardly evidence of an imminent threat!

Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War. There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said.

It was if the untrustworthy UN had anything to do with it.

First off, what this article didn't say is that this uranium is at its Raw state and cant be used unless it would placed into a centrifuges to make the uranium which would create the weapons grade or for usage for nuclear facilities. As well and while iam glad to see the uranium being removed it was from the Iran/Iraq War is what they have found and said that this came from. However and with that said, it doesn't mean that Saddam wasn't going to use it down the road, as we know he was pursuing and trying to obtain the equipment needed to produce weapons grade uranium. As well, you notice how the MSM aren't saying a word about this?

Please read the entire story. Well actually, NEJ, we did and it seems you're the only one who wants to make excuses for Saddam Hussein. What do you suppose he intended to do with this material, make birthday cakes? Especially since it is 'documented' that he actively sought to purchase the centrifuges that would produce weapons grade uranium. Not to mention that Joe Wilson, despite his later propagandizing, reported that Saddam was trying to purchase additional Nigerian yellowcake. Obviously, Democrats and their radical leftist cohorts would find it expedient to try to discredit all these facts. Which are you?

Has one of the alumni the O J Simpson jury popped in to favor us with some inspired logic?

Aren't we lucky.

Sometimes I just shake my head... :shake:

Read the other thread, (http://www.gopusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=508 58) please.

This is uranium that has been known about and accounted for since the first Gulf War.

And for you Tiberius, complaining the MSM won't cover it, that's an Associated Press article. Does it get more MSM than that?
