I just found in the local news paper that some veterans who live in Vermont are not recognized for their service. If one was not a resident during his or her service then he/she is left out. Didn't we go to war for ALL the US? I am a military retiree and I pay state tax on my military retired pay and have been since 1988. There is no record of me as a veteran, but the tax man knows me. There are many others in the same boat.

Move to Florida we don't have a state income tax and they love veterans here. Besides if the income was earned outside of the state it shouldn't be taxable by the state anyway. That's true in some states anyway.
BTW isn't your Avatar a Korean War service ribbon.

I sympathize with you. I lived in that socialist haven for seven COLD years (Waterbury) - left in '97. Vermont doesn't do anywhere near what a lot of other states do for their vets.
Here in NM, they still tax our retirement, but we get breaks on property taxes, license plates and some other small things. The State Vets Commission is very active in trying to ensure that ALL resident vets are looked after.
Disabled vets get free plates for two vehicles and pay NO property taxes.
The combined efforts of the VA and state in vets healthcare is something to behold. There is very little out-of-pocket expense for medical.

I served three two year tours in Korea. First in 1976 and left the last time in 1988. The difference in the country in those ten short years was incredible. I brought home a 90 lb. rice cooker in 1978 and last year was our thirtieth anniversary.

There is definately a serious problem in the state of Vt., and recognition of anything once the pride of the Green Mountain State. The welcome of its beauty, the welcome embrace of a population, who would bend over backwards for a stranger in need, fell to the need of greed. Drive-by progressive control now decides the fate of their vacation resort, and allowance of growth. I left Vt. awhile ago, with many regrets. A man, a veteran, who's heritage dates back to people who fought, lived, and died, of the states needs. I will visit my family there, but will never move back until they reverse past decisions of election laws. There is no way in heck my future is going to be decided by non-residence allowed to vote in local elections. If their not living, and WORKING, there full time, year 'round, they have no right to decide what they recognize as a need for community, or state.
