WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a major boost for John McCain, Republican presidential rival Mitt Romney signaled Wednesday he's not ready to finance a costly campaign in the states holding primaries and caucuses next week.

McCain also lined up the endorsement of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on the day after a breakthrough triumph in the Florida primary, and pocketed the support of Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor who bowed out of the race.

Several officials said that on the heels of a defeat in Tuesday's Florida primary, Romney's campaign was not attempting to purchase television advertising time in any of the 21 states on the calendar for Feb. 5.

I don't believe for one minute that Romney isn't doing a TV advertising campaign in at least some of the states up for grab on Tuesday. I received a call from their campaign fundraising people yesterday suggesting the opposite.

That said, I think Romney could benefit greatly by some positive ads about himself. The people who would be influenced by his contrasting his positions to McCain's already are aware of the differences. The average Joe Voter tends to be turned off by "negative advertising" even if it is true.

I hope Romney's campaign advisors read the blogs and change their strategy accordingly. He's getting too much negative press by his "attacks" on McCain.

Shouldn't this be moved to 'The Fourth Estate - Truth or Fiction'? This story is another case of the liberal media carrying water for their token Republican and its basis has more recently been proven untrue.

I saw another example of this water carrying earlier this morning in another AP story. They tried to downplay the strength of Conservative objection to McCain-Feingold by saying that "some Republicans see it as benefiting Democrats." It's amazing how the liberal media can ignore the First Amendment whenever convenient to their agenda.
