BREMERTON, Wash. — Art Conrad has an issue with the commercialism of Christmas, and his protest has gone way beyond just shunning the malls or turning off his television.

The Bremerton resident nailed Santa Claus to a 15-foot crucifix in front of his house.

"Santa has been perverted from who he started out to be," Conrad said. "Now he's the person being used by corporations to get us to buy more stuff."

A photo of the crucified Santa adorns his Christmas cards, with the message "Santa died for your MasterCard."

If this guy does not celebrate Christmas, that is just fine with me; but he should not spoil it for others. He should get up on December 25th and go into work like he does any other day of the year.

I feel very sorry for his neighbors for havingto put up with this nut.

And for Easter, he'll hang the Easter Bunny on a cross, with a "Easter Bunny died for your delicious Cadbury Creme Eggs, in conjunction with the Egg Growers Association of America" message.
The display is also Conrad's way of poking fun at political correctness. He believes people don't express their feelings because they're afraid of what other people might think.
And so thank goodness for Art Conrad, who speaks for all of.. uh... the scared people who.. uh.. are afraid to protest a holiday.

/wait... what?!

Shame on this adult who would scare many children and give many nightmares just to make a statement.

If he doesn't care for traditions, whatever happened to the idea of writing a letter to the editor of his local paper and expressing his views without hurting children.

He's the Grinch for sure!!!

I doubt he complained when he was a child getting gifts from Santa.

No wonder this guy was angry at Santa; he broke is teeth trying to eat the chocolate covered coal that was left in his stockings over the fireplace.

Remember, Santa knows who's been good or bad so what could he expect? So...you better watch out....

RiverKing I actually googled it and there are two listed, one in Seattle (the largest) and another one in....... Dallas?!!Who'd a thunk it?!?

I hasten to add that the one in Seattle is illuminated and is in honor of Vladimir per the Seattle Chamber of Commerce (how's that for strange bedfellows?). The one in Dallas, on the other hand was brought from the Ukraine in 1993 to celebrate the end of the Cold War and had a plaque at its base inscribed "America Won". That one has since been sold on eBay to a man in Arkansas (can't help wondering who that is).

I was told in Seattle that it was the only one in the U.S. (I should know better than to listen to tour guides.) Your post prompted me to check into it just a little further. I found that in addition to the Seattle statue and the ex-Dallas statue, there are also these (according to Wikipedia):
Freedom Park in Arlington, Virginia - toppled and headless, the statue was shipped from St. Petersburg, Russia.
East Village in New York City - atop "Red Square" luxury apartment building, installed in 1994.
Atlantic City, New Jersey - in the Tropicana Casino
Paradise, Nevada - in the Mandalay Casino, headless
The two in casinos are really intriguing.

Yes Christmas is overcommercialized. But to do this is well....hard to describe and hurtful to those little ones who wait for santa. I get sick of hearing how good or how bad retail sales does....like I should be concerned that retail sales are up or down....but this is nuts.

Perhaps his neighbors should string him up by his feet in the nearest tree, with his head covered and his buttocks showing to show the city what an a$$ he is.
