The bottom line with a lot that is wrong in America (and particularly on the Hill) comes down to how they choose to spend OUR MONEY, and force us to pay more and more, feeding their gluttonous addiction to spending. Maybe bulemic would be more precise: gorging here and purging there?

Entitlements: Bribing one side of the constituency with the other side's money. Extorting from Peter to pay Paul. They do it on all levels: rich against poor, corp/biz against individuals/families. Retirees against workers. No more subsidies (see below).
Extend that to cover 501(c) too.. no funding for Planned Parenthood, for example... let them survive on their passionate believers (donations ONLY). Sink or swim.

Earmarks/pork: how could they put $$ for special projects in legislation if they didn't have the (unlimited) funds to do so? Bubbye lobbyists!!

Frivilous programs (research grants, redundant bureaucracies, obsolete programs, etc): again, time for them to be frugal with OUR MONEY! CUT THAT DAMNED BUDGET PEOPLE!!

After much research, it is my belief that a flat national sales tax would do the trick... no more than 10%... YEP, ONLY 10%... let them cut the budget to meet the revenue LIKE THE REST OF US HAVE TO DO!!

Forget about that 29% FIGURE they were throwing around during the FAIRTAX debates.... nah, hell nah!! TEN! T-E-N!!

Then, to offset the bribes they hold over the states for Federal funding.. let all states have a matching 10% (total, not additional to current %) sales tax. NO money flows from one to the other... what is collected in the state must be used in THAT state, and the feds cannot dole out funds to the states. PERIOD! No fund redistribution, in other words. Let FL decide how to handle hurricane victims, and CA handle earthquake victims, etc. Forget FEMA.. bubbye.

No gas tax, no cigarette tax, no alcohol tax, no PROPERTY TAX!! (OMG!! Hate that one... we are NOT property owners if we can be kicked out for non-payment of tax... the govt owns it!! In addition, they use THAT to squelch our religious leaders from the free speech the founders intended.) No registration "fees", license "fees", etc.. that are merely for revenue ("a tax by any other name still smells as stinky")... when registration is necessary, or licensing... FREE! The inspection or test can have a charge, but no ongoing renewal fees (like with cars, or pets, for instance).

No subsidies of any kind!! No depreciation for businesses, no home loan interest write offs, no child deductions, no "earned income credits"... in fact, no filing at all. Just pay at the register... done. Then they can't pander to one segment or another... we will truly ALL be equal when it comes to votes. Candidates might actually have to have an ideology other than $$ driven bribes for votes. How 'bout that?

THAT will save us a lot of money right there; getting rid of the IRS and their many accountants, investigators, etc...
Not to mention the increased profits to businesses, no longer the tax collector for the state (via withholding taxes from employees, etc.) and the many accountants they have to hire, etc... more job creation there! They can afford to expand/reinvest... growth is good! More people working, spending, increased revenue for the govts... feds and states. WIN/WIN!

And lastly, this needs to be a new constitutional amendment... with those figures (or similar) included.. replacing the 16th amendment (or amending the amendment) and that congress CANNOT increase the %'s without similar radification; they have proven to be delinquent in their duties as tax "levyers and collectors".

I think tax reform is key to many of the ills that plague us. It is particularly KEY to stopping the socialism that is here and coming.

Whatcha think? Any additional ideas?

I'd also like to limit the number of LAWYERS on the Hill... more diverse professions are needed IMO... they just bog us down with paperwork and investigations... that's their nature. (Also inherent in their nature is the adversarial system, wonder why we have so much partisan politics? DUH!!) How 'bout some blue collar individuals? The "educated professionals" don't seem to actually READ anything they vote on anyway....

We need to remind them that they work for US, not the other way around....

It'll never happen. Government is constantly looking for more things to tax at higher rates. Or at least the Democrats in government are. Even if something like this could be passed with Republicans in power, the Democrats would start retaxing the other stuff as soon as they took over.

Besides, the Feds cannot force the states to change their tax methods. And most states would not go along with it.

And it would hurt the poor the most. They spend 100% of their income and usually don't own a home.

I'm all for the elimination of property tax and, frankly, would gladly pay a higher state income tax to be rid of it. That would save the elderly from worrying about losing their homes.

Real, I like the idea of eliminating the IRS and a flat sales tax. I would go for that in a minute. I like less taxes on corporations UNLESS they choose to go overseas.

Think of all the buildings our gov't pays for to maintain....Downsize ....smaller buildings....less of them. Every gov't agency in every town has a big building. Look at DC. We have to maintain the white house, the capital, the pentagon, this and that... Do we really need these big obnoxious buildings? I dont think so....time to leave tradition here for practicality. Join the rest of society...smaller, less cost. All the extra spending on roads. WE dont need bigger and wider roads. Tell people to slow down and big trucks haul less weight and there wont be such damage to them. This is just a start on how we could save huge amounts of money.

Besides, the Feds cannot force the states to change their tax methods. And most states would not go along with it.

Actually, I wouldn't ask the feds to do anything to the states, other than quit extorting our money then lord it over us to comply with whatever fed program they want to enforce... like the fed speed limit, for example, no compliance-no fed $$... that comes from US in the first place. The only reason I proposed an increase in state sales tax was to offset the fed bribe money.

And it would hurt the poor the most. They spend 100% of their income and usually don't own a home.

Except for the fact that ALL corp and property taxes are passed on to them, but they do not get the write off for it. So, IMO it would just be a wash for them (unless prices go down, as I assume they would, then they get double benefit: lower proces which would also = lower taxes.)
