Former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) sounded the part of a presidential candidate when he visited Iowa Friday to tout his record as a true conservative.

“I am unabashedly pro-life. I am pro-Second Amendment. And I don't apologize for the United States of America,” Thompson, who is expected to declare his candidacy officially after Labor Day, told his audience in Des Moines. “If things play out the way I’ve got in mind, we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other.”

“I have thought about the kind of world and the kind of country that these kids and your kids and our grandkids are going to grow up in,” he said. “I think the American people are going to give us a shot. I think they’re going to open the door and open their hearts and their minds to what we have to say and to who we are.”

I really like the things he says but I'm tired of waiting and I'm not alone.

I am being very patient with Fred. I do believe he is the only choice to be any of the Democratic candidates.

Hang on friends, I got a feeling the Thompson campaign will be a hell of a ride. So much so that we'll be happy for rest we're getting now come April when the second wind comes.

Fred Thompson looks good, of course, about ALL Republicans look good right now, except
Ron Paul, who seems to tow the Democrat line!

I believe Fred Thompson will be the GOP nominee and that he will be elected President. Hopefully, he will have long coat-tails and will pull a batch of new Conservative congress-critters into office, too.

I guess that pretty much says it for me.

AP Interview: Thompson defends lobbying
By RON FOURNIER and MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writers

DES MOINES, Iowa - On the verge of joining the presidential race, Republican Fred Thompson on Friday unapologetically defended his career as a Washington lobbyist paid to influence the government on behalf of an abortion-rights group, a leftist Haitian leader and other special interests.

"Don't confuse the lawyer with the client," Thompson told The Associated Press.

The former Tennessee senator and actor discussed his eclectic career path, the war in Iraq and his ambitious plans to reshape the GOP during a 30-minute interview after introducing himself to Iowa Republicans in classic Midwest fashion: He toured the state fair with popular Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa.

*Not bad. Not bad at all. Thompson proves he can handle a hostile media. That's good. It's gonna get a lot worse.
