WEST POINT, NEW YORK (Talon News) -- More than 900 West Point Military Academy cadets listened on Saturday as Vice President Richard B. Cheney warned the newly commissioned officers that their duties around the globe will in large part be to continue the fight against global terror begun on September 11, 2001 and bring freedom to places oppressed around the globe.

The graduating cadets gathered in the school's Michie Stadium on the 16,000 acre campus and heard from the nation's second highest elected official that the struggles of the academy will prepare them for the struggles they will face in their postings as second lieutenants in the Army. "The commission given to you today is testimony to the superb training you've received, and to the confidence your country has placed in you," Cheney said.

"Officers from this class will soon be leading units at military posts around the world. And these responsibilities come to you at a crucial hour in our nation's history. It was in your third year that the United States was attacked by terrorists. The struggle that began that day will affect your careers, and the life of our nation, for many years to come," Cheney added during his commencement speech.
