WASHINGTON — Terrorist attacks worldwide shot up 25 percent last year, particularly in Iraq where extremists used chemical weapons and homicide bombers to target crowds, according to a new State Department report.

Among countries, Iran remains the biggest supporter of terrorism, with elements of its government backing groups throughout the Middle East, particularly in Iraq, giving material support and guidance to Shiite insurgent groups that have attacked Sunnis, U.S. and Iraqi forces, the report said.

In its annual global survey of terrorism to be released Monday, the State Department says about 14,000 attacks took place in 2006, mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan. These strikes claimed more than 20,000 lives — two-thirds in Iraq. That is 3,000 more attacks than in 2005 and 5,800 more deaths.

refer to deaths and injuries sustained by "noncombatants," with significant increases in attacks targeting children, educators and journalists.

Wonder if this will escape the notice of the MSM and liberals in academia?

Terrorists know exactly which targets are likely to raise a hue and cry to stop the war.

Children will always be at the top of the list.

Educators, liberals, because they have captive audiences in their students will be more likely to demand the cessation of war if their own are being targeted. Students are likely to come out protesting even though they're not sure what they're protesting.

The media, because if they're the targets they can publicize it and are more likely to clamor for an end to the war even more than they do. Jason Eason, to the country, it has never been coalition policy to shoot reporters, only terrorist policy.

These poor fools, because of their liberal bias will never see this war for what it is, an assault on western civilization.

Except against Americans or in America.

This is definitely part of the terrorist plan to excoriate America as the Blame Bush Brigade will of course be using this as a reason to make us the bad guys in the spectrum of global politics.

Lord forbid we have another attack on our shores...should that happen, tho, the tide will turn and there will be former anti-war people screaming for nukes in the MidEast! And they ain't gonna care who gets killed, as long as it's all of 'em.

News You Won't Hear: Terrorism Is Down Almost Everywhere (http://newsbusters.org/node/12431)

Newsbusters

Good news is no news, at least when it comes to the war on terrorism.

On Monday evening, the State Department released its annual Country Reports on Terrorism showing a number of interesting findings, including steep declines in terrorist attacks and murders in many regions of the globe. That has not been the lede story in America's liberal media, however. Instead, they've chosen to focus their attentions on how terrorism has increased in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

That's not entirely unjustified. Both of those countries have significant amounts of American troops in them (although I doubt that the left-wing French or German press, say, is covering this any differently). What has been unacceptable, however, is the American press's complete ignoring of the rest of the State Department's numbers.

Should we expect no increase of deaths in war zones?

I expect two things are responsible for the increase. First the Democrats have gotten much more vocal about ending the war and bringing the troops home. Our enemies would do all they can to encourage the Dems to make that a reality and they'd win by default.

Second, the enemy is constantly thinking of ways to cause more deaths and they will only get better at it as time goes on. We'd be naive to think otherwise. They want more deaths to cause the Iraqi's to demand we leave, and for Americans to demand our troops come home. It's a win/win for them, at least from their point of view.

In my opinion, the increase in deaths are a direct result of the shift in political power in our country. Blood is on the hands of Reid, Pelosi, the voters who voted for them, and the voters who wanted to send a message to the Republicans.

From the Newsbusters articleNowhere in either piece do you learn the fact that aside from the Middle East (which does not include Afghanistan according to State), the number of terrorist attacks worldwide is down from a year ago by over 300 incidents. The number of deaths from terrorism was only up 14 percent.
In other words, the Bush administration's idea that making Iraq the "central front in the war on terror" seems to be working. According to the State report, terrorism in South Asia is down by 10 percent from a year ago. In Europe, it's down 18 percent. In Central and South America, terrorism-related deaths are down 54 percent.
Of course Bush won't get any credit for this from any of our so called allies. After all, the left loves to hate Bush, no matter what country they live in.

Paul Mirengoff (http://powerlineblog.com/archives/017497.php) adds: "To the extent that the State Department numbers militate in favor of a particular course of action for 2007, that course is to continue prosecuting the Bush administration's overall strategy against global terrorism, but to develop new ways to take on the terrorists in Iraq. This is what the administration has decided to do."Isn't this what all good CiC's would do, change strategies as conditions change on the ground.

I've always believed Bush will eventually get the credit he deserves, I just hope it happens in his lifetime.

We should feel blessed that our troops are in Afghanistan and Iraq. The day they leave those theatres is the day attacks in the US will resume in full force. I think I'll contact my democratic representative and put that little bug in his ear.
