This is really important to Tennesseans, but is also an NATIONWIDE issue...........I am also asking them to require them to be citizens to receive TennCare. (Our state medical insurance) as many have been moving to this state JUST FOR THE INSURANCE.
REPEAL OF ILLLEGAL ALIEN LICENSE LAW
On Wednesday, May 21st, the Senate Transportation Committee voted for SB1188 by a vote of 7-0. SB1188 will remove the law that allows illegal aliens to have licenses and will require an applicant for a driver license to have a social security number or documents allowing that person to be in the United States legally. Two members of the committee, Senator Kyle and Senator Cohen, did not attend the meeting.
SB1188 now goes to the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee. All members of the committee should be contacted and asked to support SB1188, which is sponsored by Sen. Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro. If SB1188 can successfully pass through the finance committee, it will then go to the Senate floor for a vote.

Also, please continue to call the Governor's Office at 615-741-2001 and tell the governor's office that you oppose the governor's support for giving illegal aliens driving licenses. When you call the number, ask to speak to the legislative section.
A copy of Thursday's Tennessean article is linked below and includes comments by the governor's spokeswoman that one of the reasons he opposes the bill is that it will increase the price of a drivers' license by twenty cents.
