Hi Everyone. It is Wednesday evening here in the forum. And a lively place it is at that. I am taking Friday off so I can have a 4 day weekend and spend some quality time with my son. My hubby has to work all four days. (wah). My son and I are going to visit the cemetary where my mom and dad are laid to rest. Memorial weekend is for honoring and remembering family members. Another purpose for Memorial weekend is to honor and remember our military. One place that I am going to take my 6 year old to, on Monday, is Washington National Cemetary. This is a mostly military cemetary. Two years in a row, about 2 weeks prior to Memorial Day, this cemetary has been vandalized and all of the larger flags have been stolen. There is a community effort to replace those flags. *The people in our neighborhood have their flags flying and will be gathering as a community on Monday to show our gratitude for those that have served our country. I have many relatives (from Wales) that fought alongside Americans in two world wars and died for the freedoms that our countries have in common.

I just wanted to remind everyone. This isn't just a 3 day weekend to go on a trip or get caught up on your gardening or whatever else you plan to do. Although we will be doing those things. The reason that most of us have Monday off is to honor and remember thoses closest to us as well as the men and women that died for us. I know that we have Veteran's Day for this purpose also, but alot of us don't get that day off. *Please put up your flag, visit a cemetary, honk or wave when you drive by a military base, or tell a soldier when you see them, "Thank you". *
