WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- President Bush was joined in the Oval Office on Saturday for the taping of his weekly radio address with eight members of the U.S. military who were wounded in Iraq. Bush noted that May 17 is Armed Forces Day and said that the wounded servicemen have "earned the respect and the gratitude of our nation."
"Americans are proud of every man and woman who has faced the risks of war in the cause of freedom," Bush said. "Many still face dangerous duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as they provide order and stability in liberated countries. Many are fighting on other fronts in the war against terror, and some brave Americans have given their lives to protect our country and to keep the peace. Our whole nation honors their memory, and our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones they left behind."
The president spoke of the "tremendous capabilities" of America's armed forces and said that with "fine allies" and "advanced technology," the U.S. military gained "historic victories" in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush sited unmanned Predator aircraft, satellites, and precision-guided smart bombs as examples of America's use of technology in fighting the war on terror.
