Ed Koch

President George W. Bush, vilified by many, supported by some, is a hero to me.

Why do I say that? It's not because I agree with the President's domestic agenda. It's not because I think he's done a perfect job in the White House.

George Bush is a hero to me because he has courage. The President does what he believes to be in the best interest of the United States. He sticks with his beliefs, no matter how intense the criticism and invective that are directed against him every day.

The enormous defeat President Bush suffered with the loss of both Houses of Congress has not caused him to retreat from his position that the U.S. alone now stands between a radical Islamic takeover of many of the world’s governments in the next 30 or more years. If that takeover occurs, we will suffer an enslavement that will threaten our personal freedoms and take much of the world back into the Dark Ages.

I'm sure many of the conservative Bush haters here will disagree.

Tough.

I too, along with ex-Mayor Koch, believe that President Bush is extremely courageous and sticks by his word.

I part company with him in a couple of places, though. This is one of them.

the most reliable sources to support conjecture with “facts” are the superb reporters of the great international newspapers like The New York Times.

Also, he believes that we can go to the various allies and say, "Either you come in with us or we'll pull out of Iraq."

What happens if they refuse to do more and call our bluff? We absolutely can't afford to pull out of Iraq now. Not until the job is done.

Earlier in the piece Koch said:

If that takeover occurs, we will suffer an enslavement that will threaten our personal freedoms and take much of the world back into the Dark Ages.

How can we reconcile this with trying to bluff our allies? I don't think he's thought this through enough. Like most liberal Democrats he wants to do what sounds good in theory, but in practicality may not work.

Amen.. now if just more people would come out and say the same thing...

Let's sit back now and watch the anti-Semites come out of the woodwork (saying): "Koch obviously doesn't know what he's talking about..."

President Bush is definitely my hero. In fact, he is the best President our country has had in a long time. He knows and sticks to his agenda, no matter what the risk.

He's one of my heroes and I only have a few. Bush has used what little power is afforded him and defended this nation extremely well. Furthermore, he wears his heart on his sleeve and I find that to be unique in an age of cynicism and amorality.

Ann Arbor News has an article stating:
'Bad guy of the year, Bush; Good guy of the year Bush.' This was a AP-AOL poll.

Of course the president is a hero for meeting terrorism head on, but also for trying repeatedly to work with the Democrats and getting stabbed in the back for it, with the usual GOP suspects helping to twist the knife.

These dreamers naively believe that if we feed the wolves what they demand, they will go away. But that won't happen. Appeasement never works. The wolves always come back for more and more, and when we have nothing left to give, they come for us.

This is true, and very well said. Ex-Mayor Koch is a man of reason and good judgement. He also does not sell his soul for political reasons.

Any reasonable person can see that President Bush is a good man, and should be considered a hero to this country.

But, those who want to win at any cost, villify President Bush and put America behind their own ambitious and greedy aspirations. Plus, they get the ignorant and empathetic to join them through the power of their enormous propaganda machine: The mainstream media.

While I don't support all of Bush's positions ( amnesty for illegals) I believe he will be remembered as one of America's greatest, if not the greatest president. He is my hero also.
