On friend's puter, she got search_glow messing her "speed" up.

She has run several scans from different companies, and it remains.

Is there a way to find and remove manually?

Or is there a scan program that will remove it successfully?

Did she try spybot or adaware? They're both free, and will remove stuff--I've never heard of a search_glow.

She ran AVG and Housecall... didn't remove it.

The surest way to rid a computer of an unwanted parasite is to use the built-in "goback" feature in Windows XP.

Instructions ---

1. Click on START
2. Click on HELP AND SUPPORT
3. Type system restore wizard in the Search box
4. Click on RUN THE SYSTEM RESTORE WIZARD.
5. Click on RESTORE MY COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME.
6. Click on NEXT.
7. Click on a bolded date that is prior to the date she first noticed the trouble.

From there out just follow on screen instructions. I can't restore and keep this open.

She may possibly have to go to the last date of the previous month. My sister's was infected with a piece of spyware that evaded all the spyware programs and we had to go back to the prior month.

She won't lose any pictures or documents created in this time, but any updates to Windows or any other program will be gone as well as any program installed during that time. But it is worth it to get a clean slate without the parasite dragging the computer down.

If she uses this, let me know how it goes.

After talking with some others, she now thinks it may be registry probs... her adolescent son downloads alot of games... so don't really know what the prob is.

Using the system restore will take the registry back to the date to which it is restored.

By the way downloading .exe files is the best way to get anything like that on your computer. If I were her, I'd make my son quit downloading games.
