Women's Groups Want Mothers Taken Out Of Combat

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- As Mother's Day was celebrated on Sunday, some of President Bush's strongest supporters urged him to prevent the future deployment of mothers into war. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, one single mother from the U.S. Army was killed, another one was wounded, and a third was a prisoner of war.
Many religious and conservative women's groups are blaming the military for overzealously implementing the philosophy of the feminist movement that demands equal rights for women. They claim that sending mothers into combat goes against the proper role of women in civilized society.
"Healthy, responsible nations do not send the mothers of small children to or near the front lines -- that violates the most basic human instincts," said Allan Carlson, who is a historian for the Family Research Council.
Carlson believes the military should exclude all mothers with children under the age of three from being deployed into war.

I'm sorry, but excluding women soldiers who volunteer for military service because of another's opinion is ridiculous! *There have been women warrior's in America's history since the beginning. *Whether or not they fought on the front lines is irrelevent - Molly Pitcher didn't fight until she needed to! *Where would this country be without women to step in where they were needed??
This just goes to show that even some conservative groups want the goverment to control certain aspects of a citizen's rights. *A single mother has as much right to serve as any other woman in the military - and has more to defend! *
I knew after our soldiers were killed and captured in Iraq that this was going to become a hot issue. *If they force mothers to stay back during conflict, the next thing they will be threatening a woman's right to bear arms, or a woman's right to serve in a military position while in another country. *Remember, Jessica was serving as a clerk - not a foot soldier! *Any place women serve in the military potentially puts them in harms way. *Heck you have more of a chance of getting in a car wreck than being killed in combat using the current technology and techniques shown in Iraq!

I usually like FRC, but they bit the big one on THIS issue. Healthy, responsible nations DO allow women to be treated as equals if they DO choose to serve. Otherwise, our military would be like affirmative action - paying people to be there, only on the basis of their difference.
AKA - welfare for the fit and healthy chicks! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
I'm siding with Leelanau on this one. Quote[/b] ]A single mother has as much right to serve as any other woman in the military - and has more to defend!
Yeah, I can't add to this. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif

http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ONE THING I WANT TO MAKE CRYSTAL CLEAR HERE - WOMEN PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. *THEY HAVE EARNED THEIR PLACE THERE.
http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/soldier.gif THE MILITARY HAS SPENT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO ACCOMODATE THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE MILITARY. *MY EXPERIENCE IN THIS AREA ARE RELATED TO THE U.S. NAVY. *MODIFYING SHIPBOARD SPACES TO ACCOMODATE WOMEN WAS A BIG AND EXPENSIVE PROJECT. *I AM SURE THE OTHER SERVICES HAD SIMILIAR PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH.
http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/doh.gif IN THE PAST I HAVE READ SEVERAL ARTICLES WRITTEN BY LINDA CHAVEZ AND HAVE AGREED WITH MOST OF WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY. *I SURE DON'T AGREE WITH HER COMMENTS ON THIS ISSUE. *I THINK MOTHERHOOD AND FATHERHOOD SHOULD BE CONSIDERED THE SAME. *I ALSO THINK THAT THE CHILD'S LOSS OF A FATHER HAS THE SAME IMPACT AS THE LOSS OF A MOTHER. *
http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tearhair.gif WHERE WERE ALL THE CURRENT MOANERS AND GROANERS WHEN THE FEMINIST RIGHTS GROUPS WERE PUSHING THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT? *THAT WAS THEIR TIME TO COMPLAIN. *NOW THAT IT IS A DONE DEAL THEY WANT THE ARMED FORCES TO CHANGE IT BACK. *SORRY LADIES IT IS TOO LATE. *I HAVE NOT HEARD ANY COMPLAINT FROM THE WOMEN WHO ARE ACTUALLY SERVING IN COMBAT.
http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif TO ASK THE MILITARY TO BASE ASSIGNMENTS ON THE BASIS OF PARENTHOOD (MOTHERS, SINGLE MOTHERS, OR SINGLE FATHERS - THIS HAS TO BE EQUAL) WOULD BE AN IMPOSSIBLE TASK. *THAT WOULD MEAN THAT NOBODY IN THIS GROUP WOULD BE ASSIGNED TO COMBAT UNITS, SHIPS, OR AIRCRAFT. *I DON'T THINK ANYBODY AT THIS POINT WANTS TO TAKE THIS ON. *NOT TO MENTION THE MORALE ISSUE OF SEA-TO-SHORE OR OVERSEAS-TO-STATESIDE ROTATION. *THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WOULD BE NOT TO ALLOW WOMEN TO SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES. *I DON'T THIS WILL EVER HAPPEN.
http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sulkoff.gif THE WOMEN IN THESE RELIGIOUS AND CONSERVATIVE GROUPS WHO ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE NEED TO CRAWL BACK INTO THEIR CUBBY HOLES AND MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS. *YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE IN THE PAST TO BE HEARD ON THIS ISSUE, BUT YOU TOOK THE EASY WAY OUT AND REMAINED SILENT. *SO IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO REMAIN SILENT AGAIN NOW THAT THE GOING GOT A LITTLE TOUGH!!! *YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!!
http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/salute1.gif *I SALUTE ALL OF THE WOMEN SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, PAST AND PRESENT, FOR THE GREAT JOB THEY DO. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/salute1.gif
