View Full Version : Running for State Senate/House
An Important Man

I'm only 18 years old right now, but Illinois state law says you only need to be 21 to run for the state legislature. I've been seriously considering running in 2006. Do you think there is any chance in hell I could get the GOP nomination for my district, or should I just fly solo (requires more signatures on the petition, but I'd be willing to do it)? (currently the state house seat is taken by a republican and the senate seat is by a democrat, both who've been there for a while so I figure they might even both be out by '06).
Any ideas? Advice? Wanna laugh at me?
I wanna get as much info as possible before I decide to invest my time and money into this.

Important,
Two words, making up one person's name come to mind, if you think you can be too young to run. Adam Putnam. Read his biography, he is currently in Congress, still in his 20s.....after having served in the state legislature for a number of years.

An Important Man, I think you should go for it. I ran a campaign and worked for the youngest state rep. ever to be elected to the Michigan House of Reps.
Give it a shot, its great name recognition. And hey, if you don't win it this time around, at least you will be establishing yourself in the political landscape of your community for future runs.
Let me know if you have a specific campaign questions, I'd be happy to help.
Good Luck.

Hi Important Man! I'm 19 years person who's proud to be a Conservative Republican! I would say it doesn't matter the age when it comes to running for office. My suggestion is start a website for your campaign, talk to your classmates at school about your running for office and raise a lot of money so that the chances of winning will be higher.
What is your views on issues like abortion, globalization, gun rights, taxes, education and illegal immigration? I would love hear from you on these issues.
Like what m.s.u.matt said, GO FOR IT! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I have faith in you and if you work hard, a lot of good things will happen.

Quote[/b] ]abortion, globalization, gun rights, taxes, education and illegal immigration
Abortion = Pro-Life
Globalization = Oppose one world gov't, support business
Gun Rights = I believe in the 2nd Amendment
Taxes = Way too ridiculously High
Education = End Gov't Monopoly; pro-voucher programs
illiegal immigration = Deport; only legal immigrants are welcome
I'll elaborate on all of these in the near future. I'm preparing a website right now for myself to discuss my platform and what not, but it won't be ready until probably early to mid June. I'll be sure to post it here, and in other GOP circles when it's done.
Thanks for all the support you guys, I wasn't sure whether or not to go through with it, but as of right now I definitley will get my name on that ballot in 2006.

Thanks for showing your platform for each issue I mentioned. Your views mirrors mine on basically everything I believed in.If I were to live in your area, I'll vote for you in a heartbeat! America needs young patriots like you.
We must destroy the Democrats and RINOS(Republican In-Name Only) before they destroy us.

Democracy in this country works because it is open to a wide range of political beliefs and points of view. *"Destroy" that, and you have destroyed one of the main things that has made America a great Nation. *
I am becoming increasingly concerned by the extent to which people in the party who really and truly would prefer a fascist Empire to a pluralist Republic based on democratic principles so long as the new imperium generally agreed with their world view.
The biggest problem that the Republican party faces right now is that it has gone from a party which stood for principles like "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend unto death your right to say it" to a party which boycotts and ostracizes those who think differently.
The key to our longterm success is to promote respect and understanding of people who may think and feel differently from ourselves rather than promoting hatred, bigotry, and mistrust as people like Savage and Rush tend to.

bzzzzzzz...correctio n....those promoting hatred, bigotry, and mistrust would be represented by the likes of JJ, Sharpton, Graham, Jennings.....and the ever so intelligent Ms. Hitlery. Savage and Rush promote truth as hard as that is for some to get a handle on. Truth hurts though........I feel your pain.

The idea that someone on the left promotes bigotry does not excuse the same kind of behaviour, usually worse, from people like Savage. Referring to the third world as "turd world" or his racist comments about non-whites, or saying that gays are responsible for the population decline amongst "good clean white folk", or calling the million mom march the "million dyke march", or saying that teenage students who are charitably giving food to the homeless in "hopes that they will be raped"....
These are the sorts of views that conscientious Republicans should not tolerate. This cannot be a party that claims to love America, but which hates Americans who think or act differently.
Bigotry is bigotry, and if you want this to be a party of the bigots, and by the bigots, and for the bigots, then by all means keep believing the hate and divisions created by the Michael Savages of the world. In my view, it is highly anti-American, and highly anti-Christian.
fundament.
