Last missing U.S. soldier laid to rest in Brownsville
Associated PressBROWNSVILLE -- The last U.S. soldier who had been missing in action in Iraq was remembered as a patriot, a polite student, a treasured friend, a smiling grandson and a hero as he was laid to rest Saturday.
Army Spc. Edward John Anguiano, 24, a mechanic in the 3rd Infantry Combat Support Battalion out of Fort Stewart, Ga., was buried with full military honors after a funeral mass at a Brownsville Catholic church that overflowed with more than 500 people.
The soldier's grandfather, Vicente Anguiano Sr., said Saturday was the most difficult day for his family.
"But at the same time, it's a relief because he has come home after so many days being missing," he said. "He's home."
Anguiano was declared missing after the unit he was traveling with, the 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss in El Paso, was attacked on March 23 in An Nasiriyah in southern Iraq.
This is a very patriotic family--I never heard one bitter word from any of their family in speaking of this loss! *I think that is certainly to be commended! (http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/special/iraq/1895396)
