SARASOTA, FL. (NS) -

Monday, May the 1st is the day for the big Latino Immigration Strike around the Country...

Supporters of this Strike want all of their supporters to buy nothing. Don't know about you, but those groceries I normall bought on the weekend, will be bought on Monday May 1st. Same thing for fuel for my diesel pivkup, it'll be bought Monday May 1st when everybody's being asked to buy 'nothing'...

Can't we all just agree on one thing about our Borders and all the illegal aliens/immigrants coming across them???

They ALL need to be 'documented and registered' before they can legally work in America...

They all must apply for a green card and get a work permit that allows them to work in the United States for a period of 1 year, renewable only if they meet registration requirements and do not violate or Nation's Civil or Criminal laws while they're here...

Guess what folks? That's the law currently on the books...

I have no problem with legal immigrants wanting to use the system and the rules present to enter the United States and take any job that is available to them while doing so. I do have a problem with illegal immigrants and those who think you can just run, jump or swim across or Border to come here illegally and take jobs away from those who are here legally...

For those who qualify and want to become American Citizens, we should welcome them to America by allowing them to do just that after we find out who and where they came from...

Legal immigrants contribute $7 billion annually to Social Security. But illegal immigrants use over $43 billion in Public Services...

President Bush, bracing for more street protests and a Senate showdown on immigration reform, has called for legislation that does not force America to choose between being a welcoming society and a lawful one...

"America is a nation of immigrants, and we're also a nation of laws," the President said this about the emotional immigration issue that has driven a wedge in his party...

Bush sides with business leaders who want legislation to let 'some' immigrants stay in the country and work for a set period of time...

Others, including Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, say National Security concerns should drive immigration reform...

Congress is considering bills that would make it a felony to be illegally in the United States, impose new penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants and erect fences along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border. The proposals have angered many Hispanics, a key voting bloc both parties are courting...

Some Democrats, such as Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, say Republican proposals like Frist's are "unsympathetic to immigrants."

Thousands of people across the country protested over the weekend against legislation cracking down on the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States...

Demonstrators in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Atlanta staged school walkouts, marches and work stoppages...

President Bush wants Congress to create a program to allow foreigners to gain legal status for a set amount of time to do specific jobs. When the time is up, they would be required to return home without an automatic path to citizenship...

"As we debate the immigration issue, we must remember there are hardworking individuals, doing jobs that Americans will not do, who are contributing to the economic vitality of our country," he said...

Frist, R-Tenn., says he understands the economic concerns being expressed by businesses, but his focus is on the main concern voiced by the social conservatives...

"National Security"...

Frist's bill sidesteps the question of temporary work permits. It would tighten borders, add Border Patrol agents and punish employers who hire illegal immigrants. He has left open the possibility of replacing his legislation with a measure being drafted by the Senate Judiciary Committee that includes a guest worker program...

Reid, backed by labor unions, has said he will do all he can, including filibuster, to thwart Frist's legislation. Clinton has said legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants is not in line with Republicans' stated support for faith and values and "would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself."

Appealing to those who favor strict border enforcement, President Bush noted that more border agents are being hired, and infrared cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles are helping them do their jobs...

Moreover, the President said the government is trying to step up enforcement and end a decades-old practice of releasing illegal immigrants soon after capture because there is not enough space in detention centers...

"We're adding more beds so we can hold the people we catch, and we're reducing the time it takes to send them back home," he said. "When illegal immigrants know they will be caught and sent home, they will be less likely to break the rules, and our immigration system will be more orderly and secure."

He emphasized that the temporary worker program he's proposed would not provide amnesty to illegal immigrants in the United States. "For the sake of justice and for the sake of border security, I firmly oppose amnesty," Bush said...

There is a huge amount of propaganda and myths circulating about illegal aliens, particularly illegal Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan and Honduran aliens...

1. Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. citizenship. Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a U.S. citizen. Mexicans, and other nationalities want to remain citizens of their home countries while obtaining the benefits offered by the United States such as employment, medical care, in-state tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.

2. There are no jobs that Americans won't do. Illegal aliens are doing jobs that Americans can't take and still support their families. Illegal aliens take low wage jobs, live dozens in a single residence home, share expenses and send money to their home country. There are no jobs that Americans won't do for a decent wage.

3. Every person who illegally entered this nation left a home. They are not homeless and they are not Americans. Some left jobs in their home countries. They come to send money to their real home as evidenced by the more than 20 billion dollars sent out of the country each year by illegal aliens. These illegal aliens knowingly and willfully entered this nation in violation of the law and therefore assumed the risk of detection and deportation. Those who brought their alien children assumed the responsibility and risk on behalf of their children.

4. Illegal aliens are not critical to the economy. Illegal aliens constitute less than 5% of the workforce. However, they reduce wages and benefits for lawful U.S. residents.

5. This is not an immigrant nation. There are 280 million native born Americans. While it is true that this nation was settled and founded by immigrants (legal immigrants), it is also true that there is not a nation on this planet that was not settled by immigrants at one time or another.

6. The United States is welcoming to legal immigrants. Illegal aliens are not immigrants by definition. The U.S. accepts more lawful immigrants every year than the rest of the world combined.

7. There is no such thing as the "Hispanic vote". Hispanics are white, brown, black and every shade in between. Hispanics are Republicans, Democrats, Anarchists, Communists, Marxists and Independents. The so-called "Hispanic vote" is a myth. Pandering to illegal aliens to get the Hispanic vote is a dead end.

8. Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848 Mexicans have resented the United States. During World War I Mexico allowed German Spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the U.S. During World War II Mexico allowed the Axis powers to spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico. Today Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California, Arizona, new Mexico and Texas. If you don't believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their schoolchildren.

9. Although some illegal aliens enter this country for a better life, there are 6 billion people on this planet. At least 1 billion of those live on less than one dollar a day. If wanting a better life is a valid excuse to break the law and sneak into America, then let's allow those one billion to come to America and we'll turn the USA into a Third World nation overnight. Besides, there are 280 million native born Americans who want a better life. I'll bet Bill Gates and Donald Trump want a better life. When will the USA lifeboat be full? Since when is wanting a better life a good reason to trash another nation?

10. There is a labor shortage in this country. This is a lie. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of American housewives, senior citizens, students, unemployed and underemployed who would gladly take jobs at a decent wage.

11. It is racist to want secure borders. What is racist about wanting secure borders and a secure America? What is racist about not wanting people to sneak into America and steal benefits we have set aside for legal aliens, senior citizens, children and other legal residents? What is it about race that entitles people to violate our laws, steal identities, and take the American Dream without paying the price? For about four decades American politicians have refused to secure our borders and look after the welfare of middle class Americans. These politicians have been of both parties. A huge debt to American society has resulted. This debt will be satisfied and the interest will be high. There has already been riots in the streets by illegal aliens and their supporters. There will be more. You, as a politician, have a choice to offend the illegal aliens who have stolen into this country and demanded the rights afforded to U.S. citizens or to offend those of us who are stakeholders in this country. The interest will be steep either way. There will be civil unrest. There will be a reckoning. Do you have the courage to do what is right for America? Or, will you bow to the wants and needs of those who don't even have the right to remain here?

"Did YOU Know That"...

According to the Los Angeles Times,

1. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

2. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

3. Over 66% of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

4. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

5. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

6. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

7. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

8. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

9. In L.A.County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in L.A.County ).

(29% of inmates in federal prisons reportedly are illegal aliens.)

There will be a reckoning. It will come in November of this year, again in 2008 and yet again in 2010 when the voters go to the polls...

We will not allow America to be stolen by third world agitators, criminals and thugs who have no desire in participating in the American way of life...

This is the current Legislation currently sitting in the U.S. Senate:

Under the Hagel-Martinez Bill, those who have been in the country for more than five years would be allowed to adjust to legal status without leaving the country. They would be able to obtain green cards after working six years provided they:

• Passed background checks.

• Worked at least three of the past five years in the United States.

• Paid all taxes due.

• Registered for military Selective Service.

• Learned English and American civics.

• Paid $2,000 in fines, in addition to application fees.

Mid-Term Illegal Immigrants:

Those in the country for two to five years would be eligible for temporary work visas, which they would be required to obtain at one of about 20 land ports of entry. Applicants would be required to leave the United States, though the process could be completed within a day. These temporary work visa holders would be able to gain more privileges over time, although that could take as long as eight years after re-entry. In the meantime, re-entering workers would be eligible for renewable three-year temporary worker visas. In the first year of such a visa, an employer could sponsor a worker’s green card application. A worker could self-sponsor the green card application in the fourth year of such a visa. Workers would be able to become legal permanent residents — green card holders — as long as green cards were available under annual caps. The number of green cards available would be increased to 450,000 from 290,000 for 10 years, and then return to 290,000.

To obtain temporary worker visas, midterm illegals would be subject to visa requirements under current law (background checks, fees, paid taxes), along with some new requirements.

Short-Term Illegals:

Those who arrived in the United States in the past two years would be required to return home, and from there could apply to enter the United States as temporary workers. There would be no guarantee that such workers could obtain temporary worker visas. Stepped-up workplace enforcement as well as increased border and interior enforcement would make remaining in the country more difficult for these individuals, as other illegals adjusted to legal status.

Temporary Workers:

In order to gain support for the Hagel-Martinez compromise, negotiators agreed to reduce the annual cap on future temporary workers — those not now in the country — from 400,000 to 325,000. Temporary workers also would have stronger labor protections, including prevailing wage requirements and job portability, than under another plan advanced by the Judiciary Committee.

I now have a suggestion for all of our politicians:

First, let's start by placing large FINES on those employers who are blatantly violating the law by hiring these illegal workers. I'd suggest $2,500 to $5,000 per worker would most definitely get the attention of the employers and the illegal aliens...

Secondly, let's just take ALL the Illegal Immigrant's that we can catch and give them a choice to join either The Job Corps, AmericCorps or The Peace Corps for 4 years or 'if' they can qualify they can join our Military and then automatically make them a U.S. Citizen 'if' they stay out of trouble for those 4 years???

Finally, if they don't want to do these pre mentioned things, then GOOD BYE! Send them back where they came from and don't let the door hit them in their butts on the way out...

Do any of you have a better idea???

If so, NOW is the time to voice your opinion by contacting your Representatives in Washington, DC and telling them...

For Now, That's Just 'OUR' Opinion...

I have always been a proponent of allowing people to gain citizenship by serving in our military as is suggested near the end of this long and generally excellent post.

But there are articles circulating through email now that MS-13 are being recruited into our military and are being trained by us in the art of urban warfare. That is worrisome.

Apparently recruiting standards have been lowered and things which used to bar service like excessive tattoos are being waived or dropped.

I've been reading that it is the gang leadership that is directing their younger members to enter the military.

Jack

A great piece, and I thank you for assembling all the information, etc. for us to read.

I have a friend who lives on a ranch about 60 miles north of the Rio Grande in Sonora, Texas. *I asked her if she were working any illegals. *She said, &quot;Goodness, no! * It's a $10,000 fine.&quot;

So that law must already be on the books, but not enforced.

Also, I was amused late yesterday afternoon in watching the panel on Fox News and hearing Marla say that &quot;certainly illegals weren't allowed to vote.&quot; * Well, they are registering them right and left at these marches in both Dallas and Houston. *I felt like the panel doesn't understand the huge ground swell against the illegals even being here, but then maybe I'm the one out of step?

By &quot;they&quot; I am sure you mean Democrats because if a Republican had shown up at these communist workers rallys he would have likely been ripped to pieces. Anybody who believes that amnesty is going to help the Republican cause has their eyes closed.

But lots of the marchers are citizens and can legally vote. It has been 20 years since the Reagan amnesty so the children (anchor babies) of the illegals that came since then are reaching voting age.

It should be worrisome! * There is a group creating total chaos in Nuevo Laredo on the Texas border who were trained in the military in the US. *There have been a couple a hundred murdered there including a police chief in the last year or so. It's caused by a drug war.

Laredo/Nuevo Laredo were like one big town. *Now Americans don't go into Mexico there at all. *The mayor of Laredo is worried the violence is going to spill out over into Laredo which is in Texas.

The sad thing is many American dollars came into Mexico through Nuevo Laredo. But, Mexico can't control the drug cartels who have wrecked the place, mainly because the Mexican military and police are bought off.

Never, never forget Mexico is the land of the mordida....the payoff. * It's the way of life.

I suppose I would be one of the legals and I certainly don't approve of this or anything else that is going on with respect to illegal immigration.

But a lot of the illegals have children who are reaching voting age. And many Hispanic children who are near voting age also have children of their own. I'm told it is hard to find a teenage girl in Los Angelos who is not a mother or pregnant. Many of these citizens are marching in solidarity with their illegal parents and grandparents.

illegal or even legal non-citizens in the armed forces never made any sense to me . i always thought of them as paid professional soldiers , mercenaries that work for money [citizenship] which is reward for services to the government rather then the country and people . i like a draft and a volunteer military . if the stories are true about gang members in the usa military then the usa may be unwittingly training some - zetas - for use within the usa . --------- for you history buffs , didn't rome have troubles due to foreigners within the roman army plus troubles with foreigners that became citizens ??

it just may repeat itself. There’s a quote that

Not here in Houston nor in Dallas.

Here in Houston the drop out rate of the Latino girls is horrific! * Many leave school because they are pregnant. *This comes from administrators and teachers that I know. *Should not be surprising. *The American culture dictates education first. *Most of the Mexican culture, and I cannot speak for illegal Latinos from other countries, do not have parents who can read or write. Therefore, their emphasis is not on staying in school.

As a matter fact, I do.

You could check this thread that got posted to GOP USA a few days ago.

Gangs claim their turf in Iraq (http://www.gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.pl?act=ST; f=18;t=29643;hl=gang s)

As far as hispanic teenage pregancies go, are you really that out of touch with what is going on in the world around you?

Try a quick google search Hispanic teenage pregnancy. You'll find an abundance of evidence that backs my statement. Hispanics, who we are frequently told are socially conservative and share GOP values, have the highest rate of teenage pregnancy and the highest highschool dropout rate of any racial ethnic group in the United States.

U.S. TEENAGE PREGNANCY RATE DROPS FOR 10TH STRAIGHT YEAR

Rates Declined in Every State and the District of Columbia

In 2000, 83.6 in 1,000 women aged 15-19 became pregnant-a 28% decline from 1990, when the teenage pregnancy rate reached a high of 116.9 per 1,000 women. Declines also took place among all racial and ethnic groups and in every state in 2000, according to new data from The Alan Guttmacher Institute. The teenage birth and abortion rates also declined between 1990 and 2000. (Pregnancies are calculated as the sum of births, miscarriages (including stillbirths) and abortions.)
...
Declines also occurred among adolescents in all racial and ethnic groups. The pregnancy rate among black women aged 15-19 declined 32% between 1990 and 2000 to 153 per 1,000 women; among white teenagers it declined 28% to 71 per 1,000. You can't generalize it. The reason is different for each ethnic group. You may actally find that some minorities have higher graducation rates. Chinese and Japanese and people here from India may have children with higher rates.

However, culture plays one of the biggest roles, I believe. In some minorities other factors as to what is important come into play. For one culture it may be &quot;you can't get ahead even with an education so why try,&quot; may be instilled unintentionally in their children, In another, it may be that you don't need the education to succeed if you work hard and you should start working and supporting the family when you are 15 or 16.

All kinds of cultural and peer pressures affect most of this. Even in schools where the children are all in school together and exposed to the same educational system, culture will play an important role in who graduates and who doesn't.

I happen to believe the work ethic of the Hispanic people may well be the reason they, in a few decades are the ruling class in America and not because of radical groups that want to &quot;take over.&quot; The main thing they need is for parents to start pushing a better education for their children. A better education combined with their work ethic will give them a huge advantage because they already have the &quot;numbers.&quot;

But, I believe we will find ourselves in a bad situation before then that will make this problem worse, but also make it a small problem compared to a recession from a loss of oil supplies from Venezuela, Bolivia, Mexioc, Nigeria, etc. The unemployment rates will be so high, that home values will plummet, standard of living will drop, et.

The people living off the government may be doing better than those who worked all their lives. At least, until the whole economy collapses and we can't pay welfare benefits at the level they are now.

I worry more about South America than I do Iran in the short term. (Unless a war breaks out with Iran)

However, we have a stong economy and there is no guarantee that anything bad will happen.

I don't think they will ever be the ruling class in America. * They far outnumber anyone else in Mexico, and that country is a zero compared to what it could be w/ the tremendous resources that they have.

Japan or Germany, had they taken us over, would have done something significant w/ America....no, no, no... Mexico would not....nor their citizens. They have no track record for success.

Remember that the people who founded this country had no track record for success either. They left their nations because they were looking ofr freedom and opportunity and were willing to risk their lives in a new land.

It all depends on education. If they begin to demand their children have the education they didn't, they will do quite well. However, you correct that the odds are against them. But a strong work ethic is very important because that is needed if you want a good education.

Define &quot;success&quot; for a country.

I don't know how much of a comforting thing it is to some of you, but I have been inundated with phone calls from hispanics who lost their job for &quot;demonstrating&quot; on Monday. Obviously, there have been some employers who &quot;stood their ground&quot;, and are firing employees who missed work on Monday. The mainstream media is not reporting this.

Just thought some of you would like to know.

Glad you are patriotic, but you did not define success or, in your eyes, success is being identical to US?

However, if you really want to know which countries are successful enough that very few of their citizens go to live illegally in US, I would venture that Costa Rica and Panama would be on the list.

Costa Rica basically has no illiteracy, a huge middle class and has been a stable democracy for many generations. They also have no army. It is generally called the &quot;Switzerland&quot; of Central America. (They also have an illegal immigration problem, closer to home, no language problems, etc.)

Panama is not that good but I don't know of any illegal Panamians in US (Am sure there are some, but I have never met any).

This from the Atlanta Journal - Constitution 5/3/06

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">DHR data do show a troubling rise in Hispanic teen pregnancy and birth rates. The pregnancy rate among Hispanic teens was 57.3 per 1,000 in 1994, but climbed to 76.4 a decade later.

Pregnancy prevention strategies that work well for white and black teens in Georgia may not resonate with Hispanic girls, especially those from Mexico, where 22 percent of women are mothers by age 18, according to UNICEF.

Hispanic young women are also less apt to use or even discuss birth control with their sex partner, and are less likely to abort a pregnancy.

Unfortunately, Hispanics are also less likely to graduate high school, and in the end, dreams, aspirations and education are the best deterrent against teenage pregnancy. [/QUOTE]
