Bush death threat tied to PU student

Post-Tribune

A Purdue University graduate student was arrested and charged with threatening to kill President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Vikram Buddhi allegedly posted the detailed and threatening messages on an online message board.

Buddhi has been studying industrial engineering at the university, having moved temporarily from India to his new home in West Lafayette 10 years ago on a student visa. He was originally hired as a teaching assistant in the math department but was removed from that position and is now a teaching assistant in the industrial engineering department.

Oh yes, by all means, release this poor student from India so he can &quot;return to studying&quot;! How about we deport him back to India and make him a persona non grata!! That sounds like a much better plan to me.

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">Martin said Buddhi’s actions should be covered by the First Amendment since Buddhi would have never actually carried out his threats.

In the various messages posted, Buddhi urged the Web site’s readers to bomb the United States and for them to rape American and British women and mutilate them, according to court documents. Other messages called for the killing of all Republicans.

Wait a minute here. This sounds like a terrorist threat to me. I still think he needs to be deported and not allowed to ever return, even as a visitor. No more visas.

Threatening the life of the President is against the law. The First Amendment is not absolute--there are certain limits. Yelling &quot;fire&quot; in a crowded venue when there's no fire, calling in a false fire alarm, making a false police report, and perjury, are crimes; and slander and libel are at least civil offenses and can be sued for.

[/QUOTE]THAT IS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THIS COUNTRY, ANY FOREIGNER CAN COME HERE AND THREATEN OUR PRESIDENT AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS AND SOME ULTRA LIBERAL LAWYER WILL PROTECT HIM AND LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. MEANWHILE IF HE WOULD HAVE DONE THAT IN HIS COUNTRY, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN BEHEADED. I SAY EITHER PLACE HIM IN PRISON FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE OR PUT HIM ON DEATH ROW. HE DOESN'T BELONG IN THIS COUNTRY.AND LET HIM TAKE HIS ATTOURNEY JOHN MARTIN WITH HIM.

Am I to infer from this that he is here on a student visa after 10 years and he's working as a T.A.? *Ship his rearend out of here and tell *him not to let the door hit him on that rearend on his way out!

Why does our government get so stupid??

I know, I know. *It's because it's a bureaucracy!!

Sounds to me like a crime has been committed and it seems obvious who committed the crime. *I say sweat this &quot;student&quot; big time. *Put his sorry ### under the bright lights for a while to find out who all his drinking buddies and possible co-conspirators are, and then lock him up. *And let's have a good close look at the administrators and professors at PU who hired this guy.

&quot;send him home to resume his studies&quot;? you've got to be kidding.

If send him home means to India, I'd be okay with that. But he needs to be in chains until the boat docks in India and he is let off!

This guy should be sent back to India immediately. It is against the law to threaten any governmental offical.

The Commodore &amp; his Lady unto the Forum: greetings.

Re the threat to the President &amp; his official family:

Typical double standard in American education. Let the foreigner go scot-free, while the student born &amp; raised in the USA is thrown into the Slammer. Or is otherwise threatened as a threat to the current power structure on campus.

How far have we really come?

As an American woman who also happens to be a Republican, I find this EXTREMELY offensive. How come when conservatives are offended, we're told too bad, but when the left is offended, lawsuits come from every direction?

Besides, most American women (I can't speak for the Brits) are a whole lot tougher than what this idiot is probably used to and many of them would probably kick his sorry butt right back to India.

Finally, as an employee of PU (how perfect are those initials?) doesn't he represent the college? I still haven't figured out how academia justifies this type of behavior. I think the school owes the American public an apology for hiring this loonatic.

How come the feds aren't involved in this, using the airwaves to threaten the president, (violates the dems favorite cause, the commerce clause) no matter how benign his attorney claims it is, also the first amendment wouldn't apply if you threaten the president or vice-president. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag17.gif

I would think studying in jail would be ideal!! The distractions would be minimal, maybe an occasional randevous with Bubba, and he has all the time in the world to complete the work. Actually, the guy must be awfully stupid if hasn't completed his education in 10 years. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I'm offended that we have such criminals in our universities in Indiana. Can I file a suit against Purdue? I don't want my tax dollors supporting stuff like this.

The whole tone of this Suntimes article makes it sound like we shouldn't blow this out of proportion. That's baloney!

Are we now supposed to assume that ALL threats can be mitigated by using this &quot;conditional tense?&quot;

------>&quot;My client, Moussaui, would never have completed his mission, your honor, that's illegal,&quot; said Moussaui's lawyer.

I think a little hard time (20 years) then deport him!!!!!

I disagree with deporting him. Put him in prison here and don't allow him access to a computer. They would also need to monitor his communications very closely. If you send him back to India, all he'll do is find another site to host his poison and we will have lost all control of the situation then.

I believe that he should been given the death penalty. Couldn't it be considered conspiracy to commit murder? After all he is encouraging rather loudly the world to do it and even giving them ideas as to how to do it.

He's been on a student visa for 10 years? What has he been studying? How to overthrow our government.

20 years in prison and then deportation sounds about right to me.
