ANTI-WAR PSYCHOSIS
March 11, 2003 -- SAY this for the anti-war movement and its fellow travelers in the media: They're succeeding in driving everybody crazy, including themselves.
Supporters of the war are rattled and nerve-jangled by the negative turn the public debate has taken. More serene types argue that nothing will succeed like success: The war will be a triumph, they say, and these past few months will only be a dim memory. That's nice, but the rest of us could use some anti-anxiety medication just now.
Meanwhile, leading Democrats appear to think the opposite. They are feeling increasingly emboldened in their assaults on the president - falling prey to exactly the same temptation that did them such grievous injury in the November 2002 election.
At the United Nations, the French and the Russians have decided that it's in their interest to go very far out on a very precarious limb to protect one of the most despicable regimes on the face of the earth.
