Pace: Murtha's Comments About Iraq Hurt Troop Morale

AP

WASHINGTON — A Democratic congressman's remarks about the military are damaging to troop morale and the Army's efforts to rebound from a recruiting slump, the nation's top general said Thursday.

Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was asked at a Pentagon news conference to comment on remarks by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a Marine Corps veteran who has become a leading voice in Congress advocating an early withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. Murtha told ABC News this week that if he were eligible to join the military he would not, nor would he expect others to join.

http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag17.gif How the hell did Murtha ever finish a career in the Marine Corps? No wonder he is a Democrat...he didn't learn why he fought for this country. I work with quite a few former Marines now and they all agree he is an embarassment to their beloved branch of the service. I wish he would quit talking. He only insults the great people that fought and died for this country.

Obviously the Viet Nam Syndrome that has affected Senator John McCain has also affected Comgressman Murtha.

That therory may be a defense for those two individuals obvious desertion of the defense of America, now if someone can provide an answer to the traitorous rhetoric of former President Jimmy Carter http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif??

Simply put, Mr. Murtha lost his mind at some point about 4 months ago. This is sad (especially) for a Marine. The only other explanation for his stupidity would be if some love one is being held captive by al Quieda or something of this nature. Poor Murth?!

He says that he wouldn't join the military today....So the men and women that join today are idiots? That's what he is really saying....

I hope Murtha burns in hell....sorry...my lack of nuance is intentional.

Billary, you okay? You're looking a tad peek-ed today! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/winkie.gif

Some people just shouldn't speak, and Murtha's one of 'em.

Google him , and you will find that his "distinguished" military career saw LITTLE TIME on ACTIVE DUTY, mostly served and promoted in the active reserve http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif? He has "served" 16 terms as Dim in House ... and is up for reelection http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif Wonder who is funding his "anti-military" rhetoric ?? His visits to our wounded serve little purpose, since is probably done out of "conscience", and doubt if it is really sincere. Just probably "picks out" as many disgruntled wounded (and there are a few) and uses their comments to fuel his stance.. Needs to be "voted out" this time around....

Tom, I googled his name and the only record of wartime service was 1966-67 in Vietnam. That what you found? That makes him an expert on the war and what warriors are thinking and experiencing? Why don't the Republicans confront him? He seems to be a sacred cow.

I don't understand why, if Pelosi's handing out chairmanships, we have not heard this from the Republican Party. Are we being led by a bunch of wimps who do not want to attack, much less defend their positions?

Yep D. M. ! Not much longer than illustrious John Kerry, and he only got two purple hearts (wonder who wrote him up for them ?). He was "in and out" before Tet Offensive ('68-69) , but did see more combat than Kerry evidently (according to his medals). Don't recall him being in the "Vets against the war" movement, though. Don't see why he is against our military being in a combat war now , especially protecting us against an enemy that would love to "blow us off the map" along with all the other "infidels" on earth... Must be "politically motivated" since he is up for reelection this year, huuummmmm???

From all the brou-ha-ha, I thought he was a war-seasoned veteran with action in Korea and Vietnam. My uncle, a courier in the Navy at that time, saw more action than he did. Hmmmm?! Now I see more clearly. He is just another opportunist like Kerry. That explains a lot. Thanks for the heads up. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag17.gif http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag17.gif http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag17.gif http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag17.gif

That one is fairly easy. Ole Jimmy is a socialist/globalist and is out to destroy the American way of life. He's been workign towards that end since Hector was a pup.

Murtha and all the others like him are living on past glories and that doesn't seem right to me. We can't say anything against him because he served in the military? What a lot of bunk that is.

We are all judged on what we do unless you are an elected official or are well known. In that case, you live on your past laurels, no matter how outrageous your words or behavior in the present are. Something is definitely wrong when we allow the Murtha's, Kerry's, Cindy Sheehan's and others to get away with this. If these were republicans doing these things, there would be a great hew and cry from all the leftists.
