Vets get in races to fight GOP

By Jim Hughes
Denver Post Staff Writer

More than 30 Iraq and Persian Gulf War veterans have entered congressional races across the country as Democrats, hoping to capitalize on their military experience to topple the incumbent Republican majority.

In Colorado, two former military men, Jay Fawcett and Bill Winter, are vying for the House seats of two strong, entrenched Republicans: Rep. Joel Hefley of the 5th Congressional District and Rep. Tom Tancredo of the 6th Congressional District, respectively.

Hefley is my congressman and there is a chance he'll retire this year. As long as he doesn't I don't think this guy stands a chance but I'm rolling up my sleeves now for a long busy year. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You can bet these guys were encourged if not recruited because of their status. However, that is their right and veteran or not, the policies should decide the voters. However, many voters are "led" instead of knowing what the real issues are that the nation and two parties are battling over.

If they were campaign recruits, it could be rather easy to expose their weaknesses as they might have rather foolish ideas in other areas, if they even have any ideas at all, other than the war in Iraq is bad.
