Well, here's the thing. I spent the evening watching the country music awards and so I'm not quite ready. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So, I had this fabulous idea that if everyone brought a political comment and a comment on the news we'd be all set.

Hullo, I was just wandering around, not doin' nuttin' so thought I'd stop in here and see what was happenin'. I see Terri likes country music better than she likes us, but that's all right. We're tough. We can take it.

Thought you might like to take a look at this (http://www.gop.com/) Actually, I can't get it myself, because it keeps buffering and buffering but it's from the national GOP and it is video of all the heroes of the Clinton years telling how Saddam had all those nasty weapons of mass destruction. From the little I could hear and see, it looked mighty interesting. I think we should measure their noses in the videos and see just how long they've grown. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/pinocchio.gif

Good morning everyone. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wavey.gif

I missed the CMA Awards due to a Young Republican meeting. *It sounds to me they were good. *I listen only listen to country music now. *They are true Americans. *I love listening to this new music station we have here now Gator Country. *They say the Pledge of Allegiance and play a patriotic song at every morning at 7:00.

Last Friday at the Brad Paisley and Sugarland concert, they had a banner for all the concert goers to sign for our Florida National Guard troops who are serving in Afghanstan.

Today, the rest of the week and early part of next week, will be extremely busy for our stores. *Yesterday, I started taking orders for pies. *And today, we are expecting a $2,500 frozen food truck for our department. *My boss ordered 25 cases of pumpkin pies, 15 cases of pecan pies, 15 cases of apple pies and much much more. *We have freezers full of pies ready to be bake and package.

Rim, may I please borrow your cot for next week?

If you live near a Publix, tomorrow between 3-7 we will be having a Holiday fest. *All departments will be handing out samples to customers. *My department will be sampling fruit stollen, rugulach, and mini danish. *Plus, cookies for the kids.

Danny, please bring your appetite.

MLK, I am sorry you are having problems with your HOA. *I will avoid from living in an area with an HOA. *I know some areas of town which has HOA.

Last night, we had our meeting at Fontana's Italian Restaurant. *I had a lasagna dish that was good. *It is call lasagna florintina. *It consists of zucchini, broccoli, aritchokes, spinach, parmesan and mozzarella cheeses. *It was very good.

In fact, I place lasagna in the lounge for a change of pace.

I will be back later. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wavey.gif

Now, before I turn this thread into "Song Uno #5" http://smilies.sofrayt.com/^/aiw/grin.gif - *I better head on off to "make-up and wardrobe" so I can face the working world. *

Would Bobby be interested in coming to Jacksonville and talking to our group about this website? *We have our meetings every third Tuesday of each month.

I wouldn't mind going to see Montgomery in concert.

Jaguars will win eleven games and they will beat the Colts.

I'm willing to do my part. Here's a quotation from Durbin:

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">"Why is this president striking out, trying to attack his critics? Because, frankly, he's vulnerable. He's vulnerable on the charge that his administration did not level with the American people when it came to the reality of the ground in Iraq before we invaded," said Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the Senate Minority Whip.
No, Senator, it's "because, frankly," he's finally gotten sick and tired of this attempt to re-write history and of the Dems pretending they were misled.

And my news item:

Police are searching for two murderers who escaped from the Iowa State Penitentiary. They used a homemade grappling hook to climb over a a section of wall that was unguarded. It was unguarded at that time of day due to budget cuts. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yikes.gif They managed to avoid triggering a wire that would have alerted guards and got over the wall, which had razor wire on top.

Now, this is just a thought, but it sounds like a very bad idea to cut back on personnel at a maximum security prison. But maybe that's just me.

Here is my news item.

Howard Dean will be coming to Jacksonville on Friday. He will be making an appearance at the Haskell Building on Riverside Avenue. This event is sold out. The Democrat party will hold a private luncheon worth $5,000 a plate.

On Friday, as I walk on the riverwalk, I will be wearing my President Bush t-shirt and holding a sign that will say Dean you are not welcome here. Go back to where you came from.

Would anyone like to join me?

Good morning all. *We had a wild night in Tennessee dodging tornadoes. *One touched down just south of us and another just to the north. Fortunately we escaped without any more damage than a few branches and about six hours without power.

As a rule I do not get too excited about these storms unless the horses start getting hinky - and they were last night! *They seem to have a sixth sense about such things!

Have not had time to pay much attention to other news, but I'll be able to get up to speed today.

Hope all my fellow GOPUSA Tennesseans are safe.

Good morning,

Never made it back on Monday to finish posting. Son got my computer fixed (at least the one program I really needed was reinstalled). He couldn't find my copy of the program so he is still looking and will snail mail it to me or bring it on Thanksgiving. (he moved out two years ago and some of my things were among his)

I read some of the comments yesterday and I agree about FOX news. Don't know what has gotten into them. Two things really bother me about most of the shows. The first is that they are soooooo repetitive showing the same video over and over and over and over................ . The second is that they allow guests to make wide sweeping statements like Most Americans....., Everybody would agree that............, and that they allow guests to deny things that they really did say (and they have the video to prove it). It seems to me that it didn't used to be that bad.

I have to go get some labwork done this morning, so can't partake of any goodies or coffee in the lounge. In fact will have to make this short because I have to go get ready. (like put on some clothes, they would not appreciate p j's at the lab)

http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/HB.gif to those having one today.

I didn't watch the CMA's last evening. I like country music, but some of it doesn't seem like the traditional music I like. I have converted most of my favs into mp3 format so I can listen on my computer. Otherwise, I just listen when I am in the car. I like a wide variety of music, but when listening to country I prefer real country.

Well, on to the vampires. Hope my fav tech is at the lab today.

Good morning Precinct People,

Well, I'm packing to go to Alabama for a few days, so that means shopping, hemming a dress, making sure all beds have clean sheets on them (in case we die and someone has to come stay in our house for the funeral http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif )plus many other things that I wait 'till the last minute to do. Why can't I just throw a few things in a bag and go?

Anyway just stopped in to say hi and hope you're all having a good day.

I placed a BIG roaster of saurkraut and pork ribs in the lounge. It seems the kraut is a preventative to the bird flu.
The ribs are just plain old good for the soul http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .

I almost ran into javajoy trying to post this and I gotta say I agree with your point,JJ, about Fox allowing some people to make those sweeping statements...guess they're trying to be fair.

Well, off to pack.

I totally agree Javajoy. I like real country music, and today's country artists are nothing more than hip-hop rejects who couldn't cut it anywhere else, so they went country.

Every other song sounds the same, and much of it is lame. I don't know if we're having a shortage of talented song writers or what, but the wording in some of these songs are rather home-made sounding if you ask me.

The music sounds good, but when they start singing it ruins it.

http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yikes.gif *I've been busy, busy, busy!!!

First things first:

Stupid question time: *"What is a HOA?http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif?" *<span style='font-size:7pt;line-height:100%'>I know, this is my punishment for being absent!</span>

Okay, now that I have my burning question out of the way. . . . . I promise I'll try better to keep up!

Update: *Hubby re-cabled most of the house. *This means hubby and son have TV in the family room and son's bedroom. *Yet to be cabled: *Living room and master bedroom. . . . in other words, I still don't have TV. *I don't watch much TV, but I miss Fox News (disappointing as it may be at times) and I couldn't watch the CMA awards show last night. *On a side note - you may come after me with your rolling pins, but I prefer the newer country to "traditional" (twangy) country. *Sorry.

My Mom is beginning to feel better. *She had quite a high fever for a few days ~ thus she had some very vivid realistic dreams. *Her memory is bad as it is without adding realistic dreams to the mix! *MIL has a cold, so I've been trying to spend extra time with her too. *

Something to share:

No news story (no time for news!), but I found this yesterday:

"Organize the whole state so that every (insert political party voter here) can be brought to the polls. *Divide the county into small districts and appoint in each a sub-committee. *Make a perfect list of all the voters and ascertain with certainty for whom they will vote. *Keep a onstant watch on the doubtful voters and have them talked to by those in whom they have the most confidence. *And, on Election Day see that every (insert. . . ) is brought to the polls."

I'll tell you later who said that and when it was said. *Sounds like someone who had a vision for Voter Vault!

And this:

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war is worse. *A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." *John Stuart Mill

And finally:

Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. *Ephesians 6:10

Katy, when I was looking for a house in Florida, I was coming from Boston, and had never heard of an HOA. I had no idea what it was all about. I thought one just paid a yearly fee, kept your property nice, obeyed the rules and everything would be fine. I had no idea i was signing on to a voluntary unconstitutional police state! NO one in the community is happy about it, yet they consent to it year after year. I attended one meeting and all it consisted of was people screaming and yelling at each other. When one person started giving the Nazi Salute *to the board and saying "Heil Hitler", the Police were called, and he was taken out in cuffs. This person was trying to illustrate the Nazi-like behavior of the board, and was arrested for disorderly conduct. Because he tried to stand up for us (albeit inappropriately) he now has a criminal record. I do not attend meetings anymore, as that one upset me so much. Besides, the meetings are at night, and Mike and I both work. I am going to try and sandblast the white parts of the fence to match the natural look. If that doesn't work, i will have to replace the pickets at least. Pickets were 99cents each before the hurricane. *Now they are $1.50. I know. Supply and demand. The American Way.

Good morning from the middle of the Birthday state of Oklahoma.

I have been awol for the last couple of days. We are getting ready for our Christmas musical and that is keeping me quite busy.

Yesterday the wife and I both had our annual physicals at the OKC VA and then we had to attend a funeral yesterday afternoon.

I haven't been able to catch up on the last three days so if this new video from GOP.COM (http://www.gop.com/?s=video) has already been posted, please forgive me. I think you will like it very much.

I'll be able to check back in today from time to time.

Hi. Charlie Sykes is just playing that GOP video that I posted earlier. They prove so positively what a bunch of http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/pinocchio.gif s the Dems are it just makes me http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laff.gif . Now we have to get the word out to everyone. Even though the liberals not only don't want to believe it, they wouldn't believe it if their noses were rubbed right in it. You know the old saying about, You can lead a horse to water... And you have to know that a liberal is a horse of a different color.

Musicman, I have a hunch that's the same one you just posted. BTW, thanks for sending the C.D. It's beautiful.

M-L, I wouldn't belong to an HOA for love nor money unless they would be responsible for all natural disasters, too, and I could sit in a lounge chair, sipping a Mai Tai while they clean up, repair and paint http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rofl.gif (and bring me another Mai Tai).

Hope all the sick moms are feeling better. It must be such a worry and God bless you lovely people who take such good care of your mothers.

Good morning all

Well it looks like the internet is safely still in control of our hands. The UN could not get get enough votes to grab it away. No doubt that they will try to do it again in the near future. We all know that the anti-American and pro-dictator euro-weenies want to get their grubby paws on our internet. The reminds me of the crap that Jimmy Carter did to our Panama Canal.

M-L, you can vote to have the HOA removed from your subdivision. There is no federal law that says you have to belong to one. That is a state law and it was put in by the bunch of liberals that ran Florida, before they got ran out of office. I am sure that if you contact http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cowboy7.gif (Rory), he would try to help you get this changed.

The popular old standard used to be anything less than 200 mg/DL. Now however the noraml range is considered to be from 140 to a maximum of 180.

The standard is even lower, 100 mg/DL for people who suffer from Coronary Artery Disease.

Everyone, good news! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif My moms surgery took just 3 hours; instead of the possible 4 to 13 hours they expected.

They did not have to remove the whole lower jaw, only a small section; not even enough that it had to be rebuilt. The fear was they would have to remove her lower jaw and replace it with a steel plate. If that did not work they would have to use bone from her hip.

I do not think Thank you is enough, for all your prayers, but thank you any how.

Some county commissioners can be a pain in the butt too. I need to look into getting FULL title to my land (most folks only have what's known as "color of title".) Full title gives you a lot more sovereignty over your land. I didn't ditch a condo for my 30 acres just to have a bunch of county buttinskis pull the same crap on me. Unfortunately the same clods keep getting reelected, even though we have a rather brave soul unsuccessfully attempt to unseat one of the worst of them a few times.

Tradition has been abandon with the help of Shania Twain. I have never heard of these people you are refering to, and that's probably because I don't keep the country stations on very long when they play something that sounds completely stupid and homemade. Now there are "some" new songs that I like, but couldn't tell you the name of who it is that sings it.

I don't like the old hillbilly sounding C-M either. We can go back 12 years when country music was the most popular among a wider age group than ever before from the 70' to the mid 90's, country music had some very talented artists out there, and most of it honored something, and sounded good too.

Randy Travis
George Strait
George Jones
Glen Campbell
Garth Brooks
Reba
Lori Morgan
Keith Whitley
Lee Greenwood
Clint Black
Merle Haggard
Alan Jackson
Arin Tippen
Lee Ann Rymes
Loretta Lynn
Conway Twitty - (Did you know he started out playing rock "n" Roll?)

Are just to name a few of my favorites, and they all knew country music. Some still do and continue to perform, and some are no longer with us.

I don't dislike all of the new country, but it seems a lot of it is just plain out of touch with what country once stood for.

I did not watch the country music awards, but having the CMA's in New York with dweebs such as Elton John present, is like having Rappers going to the Grand Ole Opry with Snoop dog (Dawg) as the host!

KatyJ

I wonder why we don't here songs from Randy Travis anymore? *I like to listen to Lee Greenwood. *I also like to listen to Lonestar. *I like to listen to country music stars who pays tribute to our country and to our troops. *In my opinion, they don't trash our troops.

Toby Keith is another good artist. *I like his song Red, White and Blue.

I have three more exams to take in this course, but the lesson assignments is very lengthy. Actually, he was a country singer and guitar player for many years. He was well known locally but never broke into the big time. I met him when he was on the bandstand and I requested a song.

We may have a new member soon.

Last night, I talked to our treasurer. He said he has been exploring this website by reading the news and commentary. He likes what he has read so far. I have invited this person to to check out the forum.

I need to work on my marketing degree. Who knows I can receive a job in a marketing department somewhere.

How neat.

Recently, I saw a video of Tim Mc Graw and Faith Hill. I didn't particular care for it. I like these two, but the video receives a http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsdown.gif from me.

I remember my parents listening to songs old songs from Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire and others. I still like and miss those old songs.

I don't like Big and Rich at all but Josh Turner is very good. He has a very distinctive voice. Have you heard Long Black Train?

So is Gretchen Wilson if you like the redneck sound, I do, and if you don't mind the sexpot looks. I just listen. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I like Chely Wright a lot. She did Bumper of my SUV about the liberal woman who flipped her off over the Marine sticker on her car. Sounds like a novelty song but it's really a very pretty song.

My first band was a very traditional Blues Band. I played Rhythm Guitar, and sang lead, and the bass player, who was a Black man, also sang, so we fronted the band together. There was a drummer and a lead guitarist as well. Our first gig was at a country bar in Somerville, Ma called "Kevin's Korner". When we launched into a wailing version of Jimi Hendrix's "Red House", the audience in cowboy hats, started throwing beer bottles at us. '" Start pickin' in the key of C" I yelled, and i played every folk and country song I knew for the next four hours. The same three chords over and over. The $200.00 gig was split four ways, and after paying for all the beer we consumed, we walked away with about ten bucks each. This scene was replicated nearly ten years later in the Movie "THE BLUES BROTHERS" starring Dan Akroyd and John Belushi. But it happened to me first. I kid you not.

Since that horrible debacle, I have not been a fan of country music. Sorry. But I do love the Country Stars who have gone to entertain our troops. It might even make me forgive Kevins Korner.

I wish I can stay up all night and chat with you all on country music and everything else, but I need to get to bed.

I am behind in my workouts this week, so I am waking up to be at the Y by five o'clock sharp.

Good night everyone. *Thank you Terri for the information you sent me. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wavey.gif http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/grouphug.gif

Yesterday started at about 45 degrees and warmed up to 65. Today started at 45 degrees. I left at 8:30 am for a 10:00 funeral. By the time we got out it was 29 degrees and snowing. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif My body feels like I've been run over!

So I'd love to come to Jacksonville for any reason. To see a Colts game on top of it would be great!

Is the problem that my good is too low? I was pretty happy with 156, but apparently my doctor isn't!
CM, it depends on which it is measuring. If 156 is bad, it's probably triglcerides which should be below 150. My last test was 152, but my doctor was thrilled since the one before that was 390+. But then I had just gone 3.5 months without insulin, so everything was screwed up!

Then for 24 to be a bad number, that has to be HDL, which I think is supposed to be higher than 50.

I saw Randy Travis at Bill Gaither's Praise Gathering. He sang a couple hymns, an old country song (Forever and Ever Amen) and his latest country song (at least the last one I've heard --- about a year old) Three Wooden Crosses.

He was just as good as when I first saw him him 1987 at Conway's Twitty City! Just looks a little older.

A few country artists have appeared at gospel gatherings in recent years. A couple of years ago, Ricky Skaggs sang at the National Quartet Convention (for Southern Gospel Music).

In the early 90s, I went to see my niece in Phoenix, AZ. I knew we were going to see Randy Travis. As an added bonus, I found out Ricky Van Shelton would be there as well (BTW, he does some gospel stuff, too). When we actually got to the arena for the concert, I found out that Tammy Wynette would be the opening act. I wanted to leave and come back later. She was just "too" country for me.

She was the best entertainer of the three. Proved I didn't know much!

One other little tidbit. During my summer in Denver --- 1977 --- I found out there is a difference between Country music and Western music. Here in Indiana, we call it all Country or Country & Western and use both terms inter-changeably (sp?).

I was told then that Jerry Jeff Walker, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson were Western.

I was a Rock kid, but that summer, I really learned to like Western music. Then when I moved from Detroit to Henderson, Kentucky in 1986, I learned to drive 30 mph and to like Country music.

Did he play any bars in Denver during the summer of 1977?

When I was there, I went to Red Rocks to see Dan Fogelberg and the opening group was a country group called Fool's Gold. I bought an 8-track by them and later tried to find it on LP or cassette, but never did. I just wondered if you had heard of them.

They were great. I wore that 8-track tape out.

Mary-Lou, I've heard of places where the band had to play behind chicken wire. Sounds like you got into one almost that bad. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/lol.gif

Schultzie, bet you like Alison Krauss a lot. I like a little bluegrass but not a steady diet of it.

Speedy, I actually liked the middle and end of Cash's career better than the beginning.

In recent years he recorded a series of CDs called the American Series. They are outstanding even though his voice is a little aged.

One of them is something that most people here would probably love. It's called "My Mother's Hymn Book" and they are the very old hymns that we all loved so much. They are just Johnny with his guitar.

The Isaacs (a little contemporary)
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver (extremely bluegrass)

Yes, very http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif song - I like the video a lot, too.

My son and son-in-law enjoy bluegrass. My son especially likes Ricky Skaggs.

I know Shania Twain is considered to be a country singer, but I don't think she is one and hasn't been for a long time. Garth Brooks has a good voice, but his videos (like Shania's & the Dixie Chicks) are a lot of "look at me, I have a video". Too little story and too much of them posturing.

I like Brad Paisley, Toby Keith and Sara Evans; also Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts and Alabama.

For those of you who really like "COUNTRY" music, I've tried to tell you where you can hear the best and that's on http://www.wsmonline.com and the best time to listen is from 7-12 p.m. in the evening. The host on this show was a fiddle player with the Johnson Mountain Boys, but he's like a walking encyclopedia on country music~!! He was the host on the show they gave at Madison Square Garden on Tues. night and won the disc jockey of the year award at the CMA awards--the only AM DJ to be nominated in the entire U.S.

For bluegrass, Harrel Hensley has a show every Sunday night from 9:00 til 12:00 p.m. and he really knows his bluegrass and he also has a program on Sirius, but I have no idea what number it is--maybe 111, not sure.

DannyD(arlin), all those people you listed are played on the above station--of course, some places you can get it on your radio on 650 A.M. but not down here--the stations from Mexico would cover everything up--so, I have to listen online or not at all!

Charie, Candles, CM and anyone else who had sick loved ones, it's so good to hear your great news!

Speedy, did you hear about the woman in the tornado who got in the bathtub and the tub turned over on her http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif Guess sometimes, you just can't win for losing.
