CBS Reporter To White House: Alito 'Sloppy Seconds?'

Drudge

CBSNEWS Chief White House correspondent John Roberts described the President’s selection of Judge Samuel Alito as “sloppy seconds” during today’s press gaggle with White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan.

John Roberts: “So, Scott, you said that -- or the President said, repeatedly, that Harriet Miers was the best person for the job. So does that mean that Alito is sloppy seconds, or what?”

Scott McClellan: “Not at all, John.”

Sloppy seconds” is described in the United Kingdom’s A Dictionary of Slang as:

Another shining moment in the history of CBS News.

I think most of us know what this means so let's keep it on a higher plane that this scummy reporter did.

PMs will work if details are needed.

I found a link about John Roberts' apology (or what passes for one):

"An Unfortunate Choice of Words" (http://www.editorandpublish er.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp? vnu_content_id=10013 92944)

I take it he didn't apologize until the story was picked up by the media. Apparently, he didn't consider it inappropriate until more people found out about it.

CBS has just managed to redefine its standards of professional journalism, as if we thought they could degenerate any further after Rathergate. *But to do so in the White House while questioning the President's Press Secretary is such an appalling lack of respect for America and the Presidency that this obnoxious episode quite succinctly expresses the depth of MSM contempt for the President of the United States.

Had a conservative performed similarly with a Clintonista Press Secretary, that person would no doubt have been immediately fired as the media Clinton protectionist brigade circled for the big kill. *Besides which, if one really wants to talk about sloppy seconds, just ask Hildabeast. *Ah, but isn't that a vast right wing conspiracy?

The liberal Whitehouse press corp and their masters that run the liberal blogs hounded Jeff Gannon, because he dared to question the Democrat policy of filibustering of the president’s judical nominees.

What is good for the goose should good for the gander, but I don’t see any uproar over the comment by Roberts collegues. I think he said what they were all thinking, but did not have the guts to do it.

Scott McCellen should yank Roberts’and the Communist Broadcasting Network’s press creditials until they apoligize in the op-ed of the Washington Times.

I don't think it would have bothered Clinton ... unless they said something like "Filty Fifths." http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Well, that's as rank as my humor gets.

Well, maybe not ... it could have been Terrible Tenths with Clinton, he wouldn't care!

It was a stupid comment. A professional reporter --- scratch that any reporter amateur or professional should never make a slip like that! I agree with Stan about the need for a more public apology!

I think he sould be divested of his WH press credentials for conduct unbecoming a professional journalist. Failure to do so will surely result in the flinging of even greater insults upon the Presidency. When the media can no longer get away with being offensively obnoxious, their behavior will become more respectful.

Mea culpas flow like wine in DC - as we well found out during the Clinton years. The liberal press will throw anything against the wall and what sticks, sticks. What doesn't, oh well! Mea culpa. Just another example of conservative tolerance vs liberal junk yard ethics.

Sheesh!! What next? If was going to happen, though, what more likely source than someone from CBS?

As a long time sailor, 21 years active duty in the days before political correctness, we did and said most anything that came to mind, but NOT in public forums!

The White House needs to remove John Roberts creditials. They need to come up with a policy outlining the rules in asking questions in The White House.

If Scott McCellen was half the press secretary he should be (which he is not) he would have had Roberts escorted from the premesis and revoked all White House privileged. What a lack of respect all the MSM have for our President. It's one thing to dislike and/or disrespect the person who is President, but the office of President should be highly respected. No class whatsoever... http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Please, Mr. President, appoint Gen. Honore as your media contact. Please, please, please.

This question would never have been asked if he had been on the podium.

Whats-his-face is such a wimp I can never remember his name. Somehow I never forgot Ari Fleischer's name. This PR guy has got to go! The time for wimpification is over!!

I'm not sure if it's the "Sloppy Seconds" comment that bothers me more, or the "or what?", which actually displays that he had no intention of what he was asking - an obvious admission of a stab-gone-wrong.

Let him ask Hillary if SHE was "sloppy seconds" - but only when she runs for President.

I'm half glad that the media is not on our side. The inability of ANY member of the media who is fixated on sexual terms should be considered not fit for accurately reporting.

I don't need my news with a sexual slant.

Where's the backbone?! Make an example and get on with REAL newsmakers! What's it gonna take? Flashing the middle finger at the POTUS and his Administration?
