Able Danger warned of attack on USS Cole

Keith Phucas
Times Herald

NORRISTOWN - Senior Pentagon officials were warned not to let the USS Cole dock in Yemen two days before terrorists attacked the ship five years ago killing 17 sailors, according to Congressman Curt Weldon, who said the crucial intelligence was gleaned from the former secret defense operation, "Able Danger."

Weldon, vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, revealed the information in a House speech last Wednesday evening that blasted the Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA) attempts to discredit Army Reserve Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, a DIA employee who worked as a liaison with the "Able Danger" team.
In June, Shaffer told The Times Herald during an interview on Capitol Hill that the now-defunct data mining operation had linked Sept. 11 hijacker Mohamed Atta to an al-Qaida cell in Brooklyn in 2000 - more than a year before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

My last military assignment before my retirement in 1975 was with the US Army Security Agency in Augsburg, Baveria. We worked shoulder to shoulder with the best intellegence agents in the world. I fail to understand why some of this hard work goes by with no action and with information being swept under the rug at the expense of innocent victims. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag17.gif

It is swept under the rug because the victims are Americans. It is hard to realize that NOT all the people in our government are pro American.

I knew what the political structure of Yemen was. When that tragedy happened, I immeadiately thought, why are we anchoring a ship in Yemen ? Yemen was not a friendly country to the USA.
Was Able-Danger broken up because of its potential political incorrectness ?
I believe that was major reason.

We in a war, have an enemy, but we can't question a mideast person and ask why is he in this country. Are we crazy ?

Things will be swept further under the rug if the victims would be American military personel(bills years).
Personally, I thought Able-Danger was a great American tool.

Seems to me Able Danger is being swept under the rug to protect Clinton.

This sounds farfetched, but with Clinton I guess anything is possible.

Conspiracy theories are a "dime a dozen" nowdays, but there has to something big behind the discrediting of Shaffer. We may never know?

Exposing the "Able Danger" issue will bring a charge of gross negligence against former President Bill Clinton. It will reveal he caused the deaths of many of our Military. We can expect the Clintons and the Democrats will stop at nothing to stop this investigation. Consequently I believe Congressman Curt Weldon from Wisconsin, vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, should ask for and receive armed Security people night and day to protect him (and Lt Col Anthony Shaffer) while he presses investigation concerning "Able Danger".

It occurs to me the DIA and the CIA suffer similar malaise of leftist bureaucrat infestations! In the case of DIA, I suspect its the civilian employees, . . in the CIA its probably some left over envy/resentment of Geo.41 layered with Clinton sympathizers who prospered in the 90's, and had a lot to lose when Geo. 43 showed up.

Add the press to this goulash, and the smell alone is toxic enough to kill a bald eagle at 1000 ft.!

I'm sure if this were properly investigated it would reveal the incompetence of the Clinton Administration. *But I’m not certain how much faith can be placed in an “investigation” which tends to be more about partisan politics than uncovering the truth. *Take the 9/11 Commission—and how Clinton was given a free pass. *While the media continues to poll the question—are we safer now after having invaded Iraq—I must ask the question: *How safe did Clinton and the Democrats make us after the 1993 WTC attack? * But like all the rest, such things are swept under the rug. *

Whatever happens, investigation or not, don’t expect the truth to be revealed.
