Down with the Peace Movement
The trouble with the antiwar warriors.
By Adam G. Mersereau
The advocates of "peace at any price" are not waiting for a declaration of war against Iraq. Months ago they booked flights and hotel rooms and scheduled time off from work and school to attend prewar protests in America and abroad. Many have spent hours kneeling over posters with wide-tipped magic markers, scratching out their signature policy proverbs, such as "CHOOSE PEACE NOT WAR." An activist group called Voices in the Wilderness is sending small groups of American and British protesters to Baghdad. Over 100 celebrities signed an open letter opposing military action in Iraq. In October, actor Sean Penn placed an ad in the Washington Post that criticized President Bush's war policy. He then traveled to Baghdad to assess the situation for himself and, presumably, for his fans. Not surprisingly, Mr. Penn concluded that America, not Iraq, is to blame for the current tensions between the two nations. No doubt he will trek to Pyongyang before next summer and reach a similar conclusion.

Is there any way we can beat "mother nature" to the punch and saw off the state of Kalifornia and float it out to sea? http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smash.gif

I do so hope that Mr. Penn has a 2,000 pound ground penetration bomb proof vest on when he goes back to Baghdad as a human shield.
What kills me about some of these people is that they have no concern at all about what will happen to the average person in this country if a small nuclear device is detonated in the refinery district around Houston. I wonder if they have contemplated what would happen is we lost much of our gasoline refining capacity, not to mention the plastics and other products that keep our life styles stable. But on the bright side, the Hollywood liberals would still have milk and what ever else they want. It will be the rest of us who have to carry our milk home in our pocket. And without gasoline we won’t get home with much milk.

http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif The problem is, these lunatic liberals haven't figured out that our plastics come from petroleum and many other things that we probably don't even think about if we're not in that field. I do know that my car would fall to pieces and probably most of the house, too, without plastics. They're so busy demonizing SUVs and Pres. Bush (No Blood for Oil) that they haven't even figured out that we haven't declared war on Venezuela or Nigeria or any other oil producing country.
Aknauta: Has the lower 48 declared war on the Alaska Preserve yet, so we can go in and rape the fair land? http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Charie, I agree. If it was only about oil Bush could sign an executive order to drill in Alaska and we could be down there in Venezuela forcing them to give us their oil.
When my brother and I were working with some Norwegians on a North Sea oil field related project it was their opinion that the last barrel of oil in the world would be made into plastics.
You know, it would be irresponsible for a President not to consider the impact that oil shortages can cause. Energy is the life blood of our way of life and we are still giving people who hate us money for their oil. We should be full speed ahead to develop new age energy sources. In less than a decade the US and most of the world could have very cheap electricity. There will always be transportation costs, power lines and maintenance. But the power itself can be taken from the sky. Nikola Tesla, the man who invented alternating current, had planes to capture lightning and convert it into usable power. There is more than enough lightning to power our homes and to split water into hydrogen for our cars. But there are the liberal tree huggers, and I like trees as must and anyone, who would complain that we don’t know what a nation of cars producing only water vapor would do to the atmosphere.

You forget one major point. Liberal policies don't matter about results... the only matter about intentions and good feelings.
If we avert war.... it FEELS good. Results? What are those?
Think about it. Every liberal policy is a feel-good action. The results are never calculated. And if the results are attributed to the feel-good policy, the Dem's are so good at the game of politics that they just blame the GOP.

I agree with your unfortunate, but true assessment of the dem attitude.
And the reason that “Taxation WITH representation ain't so hot either!” works is because the system protects itself by shifting blame to someone else’s representative. I remember a Congressional pay raise that happened in the dead of night where all of the people with no chance of reelection voted for the raise, people with no opposition voted for the raise and a few new people with close races voted for the raise with a promise of extra help in the campaign. It was clear that an illegal conspiracy had happened but nothing came of it and the same system is still working to get them raise after raise.
That is why I’m going to run in the next Congressional race. Those guys are making good money now.
