Terri, I guess you and I are the only ones who have voted so far. I wonder who the second person was to vote 'with' us?

I think the gang of 14 will take out this nominee. And when 43 makes his next nomination, they'll be sorry because they will find they've painted themselves into a corner.

This will directly effect the next presidential nominees. Make no mistake about it, the stakes are much higher than merely a life appointment to the SCOTUS! Mark my words! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/noway.gif

Harriet Miers is an excellent choice for the Supreme Court. She has plenty of legal experiance, because if that wasn't true then Pres. Bush wouldn't have hired her as his legal counsel. So what she isn't a judge, nowhere in the Constitution does it require a Justice of the Supreme Court to have been a judge. If that was the case then Chief Justice Earl Warren shouldn't have been on the Supreme Court; before being nominated to the Supreme Court, he was a Governor! To quote Shakespeare, this is "Much ado about Nothing".

Tonja's right: it's all been said anyway. Scgopswimmer, you make some good points about Miers' experience and reputed lack thereof!

I wonder how Terri will vote...hmmmm?

LaptopAmerica.net's email says the gang of 14 is a McCain "get revenge" deal. He is still miffed at Bush from the 2000 primary and say Bush tried to paint him as a "Wack job," (McCains words) and this is how McCain is getting back at him. If it is, McCain IS a "wack job." http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I voted, Froufrou and I are the only qualified choices. If you don't see that choice among the others, it is because you earthlings don't have the "force."

Actually, that's very nice of you! And http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yes.gif Of course, we can! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/kiss.gif and http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/grouphug.gif

I've been trying to explain my ultra-sensitivity -- and I realize it's there.

My exhusband has a Masters in Psychology and while we were married he used to say "what you really mean is..."

Well, believe me, it drove me right up the wall! I don't think I have trouble expressing myself, do I? http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yikes.gif If so, how'd I get this BA in English? http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Anyway, that's my only explanation and I admit it's pretty flimsy...glad you are a "stand-up" kinda girl, the kind I'm proud to call MY FRIEND!

This is, of course, the ONLY correct answer! However, http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/pirate.gif you misspelled "FARCE!"

I voted! No surprise. What I have been saying all along. Let Ms Harriett have her Senate hearings and then make up your mind. Let the darned process work like it is supposed to. Just MHO.

Ok, I voted and the way that you thought I would. That's predictable since I believe in the constitutional process.

Why should Miers' withdraw? *If people think Bush shouldn't have nominicated her, why don't people think he should rescind the monimication? *[Bushisms intentional.]

Edited to add, Terri's reason even makes the best sense: if the system ain't broke, let it work!

President Bush wouldn't have selected her, if he didn't think she would go by the Constitution. *She doesn't need any judical experience to be in judge. *It is like telling a sports fan, you can't cheer for a certain team. because you are not from there or didn't attend the school or university.

If McCain is still miffed at Bush from the 2000 primary but good buddies with John Kerry who prolonged his stay in the Hanoi Hilton then, yes, he is a "wack job."

Since the 2000 primaries I've thought McCain was unstable and he's done nothing to change my mind.

Since the obvious choice isn't there, I voted for number 1.

The obvious choice is time travel back to what was it ... oh let's just go back to August and evacuate New Orleans while we're at it ... and convince George Bush not to nominate Ms. Miers.

My second choice was to have her kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army.

Actually, I think allowing the Constitutional process to run its course is the only viable alternative. *However, I'm sure there are many who still want her to withdraw. *They just haven't voted yet.

I've heard of armchair quarterbacks, armchair generals, but I have never heard of armchair presidents, but I hear a lot of people want the job...
The President made his choice, He's done his job. Everyone does not have to be pleased beyond their wildest dreams... If someone else had been selected, others would still disagree.
Harriet Miers should answer questions in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
