Iraq will vote on it's constitution tomorrow and early reports sound promising for passage. We'll get to see the purple fingers again. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
The NY Times has decided it can save $60K a day if it shrinks it newspaper size by one inch. Do I hear 2 ... do I hear 3? http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
The Washington Monument was evacuated again yesterday after another bomb threat. This is becoming a habit in DC. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shake.gif

http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/elefant.gif Interesting: http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/jacka.gif "Hillary Clinton is never going to be president of the United States. There is no more divisive figure in the Democratic Party, much less the country, than the former first lady. ~ Susan Estrich, 2003
"Mediocre people are, of course, entitled to representation. That's what Congress is for. But the federal courts are not a representative institution, and the charge of elitism is a strange one in this context. After all, it's called the Supreme Court, not the Court of Common Place." ~ James Taranto, Wall Street Journal
"Respectfully — and mindful that you have made it a point of personal pride throughout your administration never to admit a personal mistake (I know you said recently that you "take responsibility" for problems encountered during the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, but that's not the same as admitting you made a mistake) — I urge you to pull the nomination of White House counsel Harriet Miers to serve as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court." ~ Former Congressman Bob Barr
"The nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court is foundering, but President Bush is confident that she will be confirmed. Bush thus displays a touching faith in the power of hypocrisy, double standards, and contradictions to see his nominee through. The case for Miers is an unholy mess, an opportunistic collection of whatever rhetorical flotsam happens to be at hand." ~ Rich Lowry, National Review Online

What is WRONG with these people. I've never seen such vitrol expended on such an inoffensive person. And by people who are supposed to be our FRIENDS.
Oh well, I just watched a really nice movie called "The Librarian". Sort of a "Geek becomes Indian Jones" movie. It cheered me up for a while!
No bad language, an implied love scene between people of the opposite sex, great scenery, action violence, and yummy special effects. Lots of "mystical legendary " stuff too. You can take Mom AND the kids.

Well, now that I understand why we strive to put mediocre people in Congress, life has new meaning. I understand now that Edward Kennedy is a perfect congressmen and we probably need to make sure that Mike Pence never gets re-elected. If I had only known we were looking for mediocrity all these years, I would have kept voting for Democrats.
Now for the SUPREME Court. Would somebody guide me to where I can find out why it was called the Supreme Court? I'm curious.
Supreme has a few definitions:
1 : highest in rank or authority <the supreme commander>
2 : highest in degree or quality <supreme endurance in war and in labour -- R. W. Emerson>
3 : ULTIMATE, FINAL <the supreme sacrifice>
I always thought it was the SUPREME Court because it was the ultimate, final decision. Nothing could be contested beyond this point.
Now I have James Taranto point out that I am wrong! It means the highest quality. Elite means the choice part, the best of a class, the socially superior part of society. Pretty much the same as Taranto's use of SUPREME.
Why didn't we want every court to be of the highest quality? Why only one?
I mean, I understand why we would have one ultimate authority, but I don't understand why we would only want one high quality court.
No wonder these Elitest Court judges feel that they should use foreign law to interpret the Constitutionality of our laws. They are above all of us commoners. Just think about the Mediocres who wrote the laws.
BTW, Rush says this war within our party won't hurt it. I can't see how it can help but hurt it. I don't care one iota if Harriet Miers is confirmed or not. If she isn't qualified, I don't want her on the court. I just don't know how to be a part of an organization that thinks I'm too stupid or too common (second-rate). Harriet Miers would run circles around me. If she's a dunce, what am I?

Speed, I think he was pointing out that our party - unlike an un-named other one - can disagree and fuss a little but in the end we stand together. This is actually a good thing I guess, as that other party is turning cartwheels and thinking they are winning again.
The last election here - Hackett - lost to the Republican but declared it a victory - http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif thought I - but you know, the Dems on another site were just giddy (isn't that what they call themselves now) because Hackett ran in Ohio and got a few votes and lost/ie to them - A WIN.

Good morning!
Susan Estrich has sure changed her tune! I heard her with Hannity earlier this week and she's touting Hillary as someone who could be elected. She emphasized how Hillary is in the "center". Personally, I think she's as liberal as she ever was, but she'll say whatever she believes will get her elected.
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">The last election here - Hackett - lost to the Republican but declared it a victory
I thought that was pretty strange, too, TGIR. The Dems were pretty much falling all over themselves, acting as though Hackett had actually won. It was very odd. I thought a victory occurred when you actually got more votes than the other person.
Mary-Lou, we watched "The Librarian" when it was first on. It was a decent movie. The plot was good and it was just nice to see something that wasn't full of sex and/or gratuitous violence.I saw on a web site (whose name I can't remember) that they're making a sequel, but I don't know when it will be shown. We're looking forward to seeing the new one.

Katy dear, I wonder if Black could have gotten into someone's garage or tool shed and is temporarily locked in? Can you walk the neighborhood calling for him and listening? Also look up trees and on roofs. Sometimes cats get chased by a dog or something and then find themselves in a place hard to get out of.
Also look in windows. I've been told that most often a cat will be thought lost and taken in by someone who means well but who should have left said cat alone to go home.
And check with the local animal control people. Some well meaning person may have taken him to the shelter.
I hope you find Black today. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/grouphug.gif

Katy ~ I am so sorry that Black is still missing. My girlfriend's cat took a little vacation not too long ago. She was frantic. The first few days, she spent every moment thinking and looking. It became a bit of an obsession, but she couldn't stop herself. After about five or six days she finally settled down a bit and started talking about getting a kitten. After eight days, she came home from work and ~ viola! ~ there was Oscar! Laying in the middle of her driveway (his favorite sleeping spot). He never apologized or explained.
Personal Observation: We (Republicans) control the White House; we control the Senate; we control the House; we hold the majority of governorships; we control the majority of the state houses. We won. Why are we behaving like losers? Why are we allowing the MSM, Democrats and any other critics to marginalize us? We have allowed our Party to become demoralized. I say "enough". It's time we become assertive. We must behave like the winners we rightfully are. We need a leader to sit us down, develop a plan for our nation's future and git er done! Where's Newt when we need him?
. . . . .where's Newt when we need him?
Okey Dokey. . . . think I'll step down off my soap box now. It can get pretty slippery up there!

With al Zawahiri asking Zoocowy for money we can assume that Zoo has a lot of the money Saddam and his kids took from the bank. Zoo also has control of all available jihad money from around the world because – as President Bush has said – Iraq is where the Islamic jihad must win to keep their dream of World domination alive.
Did Y’all see Lewis Fairycon of Fox yesterday? He said that he was taken up into a space ship where the old dead leader of the Nation of Islam told him that President Reagan was planning a war against young black men. Then Reagan attacked Libya and Fairycon felt he had been right. Isn’t Libya occupied by Arabs, as the rest of north Africa is? I wonder how Lewis can stand with Islam when the Arabs in Africa are killing blacks all over the place just to get rid of them.

A big HALLELUJAH for finding Black The Cat. To quote the OT Book of Proverbs: A wise person cares for his animals,
But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Proverbs 12:7 (I think) Anyway, I quote this whenever anyone says I'm silly for caring about my creatures. If GOD thinks that it is "wise", who am I to argue?
A big prayer today also for the people of Iraq. May their election go without a problem, a minimum of violence, and may the common people of Iraq prove once again to the world that they WANT democracy, for heavens sake!
I would love to see what the next legendary artifact the Librarian will be going after. Indiana Jones has already done the Lost Ark and The Holy Grail, so i guess it will have to be something different. I guess one could have some major fun with Pandora's Box!
The music in The Librarian was by Joseph La Duca. He also did the music for Hercules and Xena The Warrior Princess. Just a little trivia to start your day.

Then Reagan attacked Libya and Fairycon felt he had been right. Isn’t Libya occupied by Arabs, as the rest of north Africa is?
GR, I can vouch for this. Farrakhan is from my old neighborhood in Boston, and has been telling his story about "The Mother Wheel" for years. He seems to have cobbled together this story from the first chapter of Ezekiel, the musings of Freeman Dyson, a little L.Ron Hubbard, and some revisionist "history" thrown in too.
Considering the genocide being committed by Ethnic Arab Moslems in the Sudan against Black African Christians, and the SLAVERY that continues to be perpetrated against persons of color in various North African and Middle Eastern countries, I can't understand why ANY American of African Ancestry would EVER EVEN consider adopting any version of Islam. Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Sudan, Ghana, North Africa..it boggles the mind. My sister's pastor is from Ghana, and the conditions there are deplorable due to the depradations against BLACK Christians, and BLACK practitioners of folk religions. These are indigeonous people being tortured, enslaved, mutilated, and killed by Muslims. Although we can't go marching into every country to rescue everybody in the world from harm, I simply cannot fathom adopting the "religion" of the perpetrators of these crimes! It boggles the mind.

I just watched a History program about the Soviet War in Afghanistan. We all know how this war was a contributing factor in the downfall of the Soviet Union, and how it was referred to as "The Soviet Union's Vietnam", how Jimmy Carter kept the USA out of the Olympics one year because of it, and how America aided the Mujahadeen *by supplying them with stinger missiles. We also know that Osama fought with the Mujahadeen, and it was in this capacity that he attained his power, combat experience, and hatred of the USA. Into the vacuum left by the USSR rushed the Taliban and the nascent Al Qaeda. Most people don't know WHY the USSR invaded Afghanistan in the first place.
Here is at least ONE of the reasons for the invasion. It seems, that, in order to help modernize Afghanistan (and presumably to make them better Socialists!) a group of Russian Ladies founded a school to teach women how to read. This so enraged the local Imam that a crowd of Islamic Fundamentalists invaded the Russian compound and killed all the teachers and students by beheading them.
I would have sent in troops too! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

He gave an example of another time that Republicans had a bit of a tiff. Apparently during the 1976 convention, Republicans were pretty split between Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan. The result was that Carter won.
But Rush said that was a good thing because in just 4 years the Republicans took over the White House and kept it for 12 years.
The only problem I see with Rush's thinking is that I barely survived Carter's presidency. If we had been at war, the country would not have survived.
I still remember in 1982, when my rent had finally doubled what it had been in 1980, that I thought I simply would not make it. Everything was not peachy keen the first 4 years of Reagan. If we get back to a Democrat controlled Congress, I can't imagine what will happen. I just don't want to see us go through 4 years of total destruction.

That Estrich quote was from 2003. That was a million years ago, and I might add, before the President threw around Kerry like a rag-doll. Is it okay to show my face in the forum? I feel so out of the loop since it has been months since I have had any time to check up on what's been going on.
I can not even begin to tell you how incredibly busy I have been. It all boils down to this...Until August 16th I had one day off since Mother's Day weekend and that day was my birthday, July 4th. I did take vacation the last two weeks of August to Red River, New Mexico and returned home the day after Hurrican Katrina hit the Gulf Coast.
As many of you remember I told you at the beginning of the year that our church was given the funds to build a shower/laundry trailer. Our goal was to have it completed by September 1st...well guess what, we dedicated it on September 4th and it was immediately requested to go into service in Belle Chasse, Louisiana which is about 12 miles south of East New Orleans area. Here is a picture...
http://img.villagephotos.co m/p/2005-10/1092436/ECFPV-ShowerTrailer.gif
I got to work it from September 11th thru September 19th! It was really great to be able to provide a hot shower and wash the clothes of those who are helping to make things better in that area. This included Red Cross Personnel, Military, Security and those working the feeding unit and chain saw gangs of the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team.
One of the other reasons for working the trailer is that I had to create a training presentation for other relief workers to go and help man the trailer. It looks like the trailer will be there till at last the beginning of next year.
It would take way to long to tell you of all my experiences but I can tell you that while I was there we had to evacuate to the middle of Mississippi for Hurricane Rita. When we returned on Sunday afternoon our convoy took a wrong turn and we wound up right down on the ground next to the Superdome! The smell was horrendous and what we saw I will never forget. It is just like they say, TV does not do justice to the absolute destruction surrounding you. I will post more pictures later when I figure out what I am doing wrong in posting pictures.
Anyway it's good to FINALLY have time to spend a few moments in the forum. I have never forgotten any of you and beg your forgiveness for being gone for so long.
From the middle of Oklahoma...

Music Man - So so good to see you again! And I can't think of a better reason to be so so so busy! I think I can speak for all of us in saying that we would very much appreciate more information about Katrina and Rita.
I am going home (soon). Going to a conference tomorrow in Traverse City (200+ miles). I'm leaving at 4:30 tomorrow morning (:yikes:) and will drive home later in the day. Oh my. I really look forward to going, but why couldn't they hold the Northern Michigan Republican Women's Conference here in Southwest Lower Michigan? http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I'll be back Sunday. Unless, that is, I decide to come back to the office for whatever it is I'll inevitably forget to take with me tonight.
So much for good planning, etc.
I'm going to suggest that we pause a bit on Sunday and pray for all things related to the Harriet Miers nomination and confirmation process. Let's pray for peace, understanding, patience, and most important of all that God's will be done.
Love you friends. . . .

I finally figured out what I was doing wrong in posting a picture. The post I posted a few posts back (??? did that make since?) now has a picture of the shower/laundry trailer.
I've also posted some pictures of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina here (http://www.gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.pl?act=ST; f=13;t=24235;st=80;r =1;&#entry230647) in the October pictures forum.

The Commodore & his Lady unto the Forum: greetings from their soon to be new hometown, Butler, KY!!
This past week or so, the Commodore & his Lady have been exploring (in actuality, househunting) in the mighty metropolis of Butler, KY: population, 1200, counting the occasional CSX train and the visitors along Federal Highway #27. And several houses are in the Commodore's size & price ranges. As long as they are not in the Licking River flood plain range -- the Commodore remembers, bitterly, the 1997 Flood along the Licking & the Ohio River basins. He lost good friends, both within & without the Masonic Order, when Licking overfloweth all his banks that year; the night Licking overfloweth all his banks, he and his fraters were having fellowship in DeMoss Lodge when the Butler VFD ordered everyone out of the building, and for those who lived north of Butler to scram like mad. All hands moved everything in the basement of the Butler United Methodist Church building (next door to the Lodge) to the main floor, and then he left on orders from the Master for that year.
Butler had it easier when Licking overfloweth all his banks; Falmouth was devastated, big time. One of the KY State Police helicopters was in the air at first light, looking at the devastation that was Falmouth, and sent back to Frankfort & His Excellency the Governor:
"There is no Falmouth."
Eight years have passed since Licking returned within his banks; Falmouth & Butler have been rebuilt. The Trailer Court across from the Lodge, however, has been replaced by a Community Park.
And now that the Commodore & his Lady are moving to join the harmony of Butler, the Commodore's Lady will miss many of her friends in Newport. But she will have peace & tranquility; the local juveniles don't go around trashing the place, as they do in Newport.
So the Commodore will sign off in the Precinct, while looking through reaction to the latest SCOTUS incident. And listen to The Pines of Rome on the local PBS radio (WGUC, 90.9, Cincinnati).

Evening, ya'll,
OBS, I missed posting on your birthday, so before I forget it, want to say a big http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/HB.gif to you and http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/HB.gif to Revalamb, as well! And, to anyone else I may have missed! Sorry I missed the proper days.
Kirk, you're a doll for doing all that you do---but, glad you took some time for yourself, as well. Bet your family was glad, too, huh? Really good to see you back!! Am truly enjoying your music, too! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yes.gif
Oh, Kirk, was going to tell you that I just listened to a lady who went down to Slidell to work with the animals and she stayed 12 or 14 days (she's from Orlando) and she's in a wheelchair!! She showed several slides and it was quite emotional for her, but she said she learned a lot about herself--that she wasn't nearly as weak as her friends and others around her seemed to think! She showed reunions of pets and owners, as well as how they are cared for until picked up by their owners or adopted because the owners can no longer care for them!
Now, on the Miers thing and all the talking heads--has anyone noticed how much they are quoting the MSM that they usually put down so disfavorably--or, am I the only one who pays attention to those little things http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif I am so tired of "know-it-alls", especially Ann Coulter--she has turned into the Republicans "susan estrich", IMNSHO!!
Well, on that happy note, I'll say goodnight and wish everyone a good night's http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleepy.gif

Howdy folks!
I just got home from class.
(The only class I got!) http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
Anyway, I thought I would drop in and say hi. I have about ten pages of notes to type up before morning. But Then it's off to bed.
http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/HB.gif REVLAMB!! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/HB.gif
Sorry I didn't tell you that sooner. I hope you had a wonderful day!
Tonight we studied the Patriarchs, tomorrow will be an intense review of Deuterotomy and the Babylonian Exile.
Deuterotomy is one of my favorite books. It reminds me of a fathers final words to his children before departing.
Well, I'd better get to typing. Classes are from 7:00AM to 10:00PM the next two days.
Cant wait till I'm ordained, then I only have to work one day a week! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rotflo.gif
See Ya!
