[B]Iraq Cancels Interview as Inspections Continue
BAGHDAD, IRAQ (GOPUSA News) -- A scheduled interview of an Iraqi individual by U.N. weapons inspectors was canceled Tuesday after the individual insisted on having a witness present during the questioning, according to U.N. news reports.
According to U.N. spokesman Hiro Ueki, the private interview was originally requested on Sunday. The Iraqi individual showed up on Monday for the interview, but was accompanied by an Iraqi official. The interview did not take place because the Iraqi individual insisted on having a witness with him.
The UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) requested another private interview for Tuesday, but it was canceled due to the fact that the Iraq individual would not agree to do the interview privately.
According to Ueki, UNMOVIC has so far requested private interviews with 16 Iraqi individuals, but none has taken place so far. UNMOVIC will further seek private interviews, as allowed in Security Council resolution 1441.
