One of the most ill-tempered transatlantic rows in years intensified yesterday when Donald Rumsfeld, the US defence secretary, dismissed the leaders of France and Germany as part of an "old Europe".
Paris and Washington traded insults, with one French minister saying he was "profoundly vexed" by America's attitude over European opposition to war with Iraq.
With calculated insouciance, Ari Fleischer, President George W Bush's spokesman, said France and Germany had the "prerogative, if they choose, to be on the sideline", making clear that US forces would go ahead in any event.
French politicians reacted with fury after Mr Rumsfeld, angered by anti-war comments from President Jacques Chirac and Germany's Gerhard Schroder, dismissed the two allies.
The more I hear of Rummyspeak, the More I like Rumsfeld! (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/01/24/wrow24.xml&sSheet=/portal/2003/01/24/ixportaltop.html&secureRefresh=true&_requestid=142203)</span></span> http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif

Who really cares what the French think. I'm so sick of their whiny attitudes. Does anybody really take them seriously? I don't even know why they have a seat on the UN council.
We bailed their butts out of multiple wars.
They won't back us in a war, they won't let us fly through their airspace during tactical airstrikes. What the hell good are they?
No wonder their country is always being overrun. They can't even protect their own country or their women for that matter.
What a bunch of whiny bastards. The next time they get into trouble (and they will), we need to tell them to kiss off when they ask for our help.

They are so overrun with muslims at this point that they are becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Islam, Inc. with the Butcher of Baghdad on the Board of Directors. I can see why they'd "vex" themselves right out of fighting "the enemy". They are rapidly becoming part and parcel of the enemy itself.

The German-French entente would be laughable if it weren't so disgusting. They have the nerve to gang up on the United States?
Neither of them would even be viable countries if not for the United States. France could still be a lackey of Germany's and too afraid to scream about the Germanization of the French language. Germany could still be a nation of jackbooted thugs and we could all be speaking German or, we could have let them fend for themselves after WWII and they'd be speaking Russian, if there were any of them left. There are all sorts of scenarios that you could select.
Because of us, they're in a position to thumb their noses at us, like naughty children. Let them. They're looking out for their own interests in the Middle East.
I'm thinking, though, if I were them, I'd keep an eye on the Eiffel Tower and the Brandenburg Gate; they're perfect targets for terrorists.

http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif French memories are as short as their,oh never mind.Appeasement didn't work in the 1930's and it won't work now.And the Germans are trying desperately to become a superpower and I guess they believe they can take on the USA and prevail. That didn't work in the 1940's and it won't work now.So they both truly are irrelevant. So draw the parallel for yourself. As long as the British and French rolled over and presented butt in air,Hitler was an unmatched political and military genius. But,when they finally fought back he was revealed to be only a bloodthirsty savage thinking only of himself and his place in history. And now we have Saddam who is performing in a manner almost exactly like Hitler and the French and their new rolling partners, the Germans, are performing the same butt in air routine and we almost have the same situation that prevailed in the 1930's all over again. But fortunately for the world,we have George Bush in the White House and not Franklin Roosevelt and Saddam is going down. How hard he hits is totally up to him.

I *sympathize with the sentiments about leaving the French to take care of themselves. *While it true that without our help neither France nor Germany would be in a position to complain, it is also true that we hold a common culture. * (They have turned their backs on it.) *But where would go for the history of our civilization if we let the Muslims overrun Europe again. *We need to stand up to them for our own sakes, as well as for that of France and Germany. *Besides where would we * take our dream vacations?!! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif * In addition, all mature adults know that sometimes they have to tolerate the*rantings of the adolescent and the * senile in order to look out for their own good!

Hi txpct!
France and Germany may well have to dig down and find the gumption to defend themselves or they may become just what you said.
