I think we better put the http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif on for our southern neighbors for the next 24 hours.
Dennis is presently a level III hurricane again and reaching for IV. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif The latest reports suggest there may be enough cool water to keep him from reaching Level IV. Everything depends on where he makes landfall as some areas have less natural protection than others. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crossfingers.gif
The other big news that will keep us occupied is the situation in Great Britain. All seems quiet now after the latest evacuations. No bombs were found but the country is on such high alert and so tense that a threat really sets everyone off. Let's pray for our British friends too. Remember, we know how it feels.
The liberals are really starting to come out of hiding to play the blame game now. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/doh.gif
They don't know if they should attack us over terrorism or judges. Dingy Harry had his knickers in such a twist today that he didn't even mention Great Britain in his radio address to rebut the president who's entire message was about the situation in Britain. What a difference in character on display. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yes.gif
"At first I suspected the Amish." ~ Ann Coulter http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rotflo.gif

Laurie will be along with our http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif Touch of Trivia soon and some of you can get a jump on tomorrow. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Words of Wisdom: "This week, there is great suffering in the city of London. Yet the British people are resilient, and they have faced brutal enemies before. The nation that survived the Nazi Blitz will not be intimidated by terrorists. And just as America and Great Britain stood together to defeat the murderous ideologies of the 20th century, we again stand together to defeat the hateful ideologies of the 21st century. The terrorists cannot shake our will. America and its allies will act decisively, because we know that the future of civilization is at stake in this struggle, and we know that the cause of freedom will prevail. May God bless the people of Great Britain, and may He continue to bless America." ~ President George W. Bush
“I’m baffled by Senators demanding that President Bush reach out to them in appointing a justice to the Supreme Court. Last time I read it, the Constitution says ‘advise and consent’ not ‘complain and filibuster. The Salazar-McCain liberal 14 can’t be allowed to control a judicial branch again. I hope the President steps up to the plate and delivers on his mandate. More than 62 million Americans didn’t show up at the voting booth to put an ACLU lefty on the bench.” ” ~ Rep. Tom Tancredo
http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/jacka.gif of the Day! "I'm absolutely outraged by the failure of the administration to release the [rail security] funding that Congress approved last year. We are woefully behind where London and other subway systems are because London does have the video surveillance. I just don't understand what the holdup is." ~ Hillary http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/broomstick.gif before the smoke cleared in London
"I hope that President Bush and the Senate can work together to nominate and confirm ... someone with enough common sense to know that Supreme Court justices should not impose a narrow partisan ideology, but make rulings with an open mind and a big heart." ~ Dingy Harry
God Bless our great country. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag19.gif May Freedom ever ring!

I am praying hard that they will come through better this time. You too javajoy ~ hope you live close to a Wally World. As much as I slam them from time to time, they came through like champs for us after Charley.
Tonja ~ glad you're ok too. Sorry about the headache. I had a doozie yesterday too. When the barometric pressure starts dancin' around I usually do. Hello, all :)Hope everyone is doing well and especially those affected by Dennis. My hope is that you've managed to stay unscathed by his wrath, or relatively untouched.
Last night I had the pleasure of IM'ing one of the sweetest, spunkiest gals on GOPUSA- Stormy! We had a great time and she kept company while my baby was squirming and moving around like a gymnast in the wee hours. There was simply no way I was going to be able to sleep so it was a nice thing to do. Thanks Stormy!!! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
Here's my trivia answers. I hope everyone has a terrific Sunday.
1. How many really serious storms have you been in?
I can only remember a few bad blizzards in the mid to late 90's, but none were so serious to cause too much panic.
2. What is the absolutely worst storm you’ve ever been in?
I don't recall the exact year, but it was one of the blizzards that kept people indoors for about two days before attempting to shovel out of it. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
3. Have you ever lost power during a storm;
for how long?
Yes, we've lost power during a few of them, but never for long- maybe a few hours at most.
4.Do you check a weather source every day or just when you might have outdoor plans?
I usually listen to our local channel, WGAL Channel 8, or look online.
5. What is your favorite weather source? *Internet, Newspaper, local news, weather channel?
Our local news is pretty accurate. The Weather Channel hasn't been too consistent as far as my area is concerned though!
6. What is your favorite summer sport to view?
Hmmm... don't really have one.
7. What is your favorite store bought cookie?
Those Keebler Elves bake some really good ones but my favorite would be the Rainbow Chips Deluxe, followed up in second place with Grasshopper.
8. What is your favorite flavor of ice-cream?
Chocolate
9. Do you know how to swim?
Yes, but I'm not all that good at it.

P.S. - Grandmashirley, sure hope your place in Pensacola comes thru ok. Just be glad you're not there. They are saying 131 to 151 MPH now. Just four more MPH and it becomes a CAT V - even so, a cat IV is the strongest hurricane to have ever come ashore in that area in the month of July. It will be much worse than last year's storm, Ivan. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Hi everyone from Central Alabama. We have the welcome mat out for old Dennis -- us southern's are crazy about our hurricanes.
Actually, we've battened down the hatches, made the birds mad by bringing in their feeder. *Hubby will be getting the wind chimes down as soon as he wakes up and we have to move the grill off the back porch into the garage.
We have extra water and food. *But if it does no more than what Ivan did -- we will be fine.
Off to read the message boards .. bbl.

Hi, Guys *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif
My dearest friends in Pensacola are the Pastor and His wife at Jubilee Internatinal Christian Center. *They have gone, with a great entourage, to Atlanta until the storm passes by. *I hope my many other dear friends there have evacuated as well because it doesn't look good for Pensacola.
The chorus to one of my favorite hymns is "Till the storm passes over; till the thunder sound no more; till the clouds roll forever from the sky. . . Keep me safe, let me stand; in the hollow of God's hand...Keep me safe, till the storm passes by! *I suspect many are praying this today. *If you saw what happened with Ivan in Pensacola!! It was truly amazing.
THE TRIVIA ! ! !
How many really serious storms have you been in? *Many - I spent five years (from 1960-1965) *in Southern Japan and Okinawa. *At least once each year in Typhoon Season we would have "Condition 1" which meant the typhoon was over us or very near.
What is the absolutely worst storm you’ve ever been in? *Two times a typhoon hit while we were in Okinawa. *However, you are well trained by the military to handle these typhoons. *We would draw water in the tub for flushing toilets, etc. *The military issued "Jerry Cans" which held five gallons each of drinking water. *We kept candles; large stores of food, etc. *Also the military quarters were built to withstand 200 mph winds. *You taped your windows with X's in case they broke so they wouldn't shatter, etc. etc.
Have you ever lost power during a storm;
for how long? * Many times. *However, I can never remember it being more than a couple days during the worst times. *Most of the people would have "Condition 1" Parties and stay together. *We always stayed with Bob and Betty Kilpatrick. *He and my husband worked together and Betty and I worked some together. *(she was parttime) because they had so many kids (4), they had a separate home so there was more room. *We would play cards, and in general have a good time. *
Do you check a weather source every day or just when you might have outdoor plans? *I seldom check the weather
What is your favoite weather source? *Internet. Newspaper, local news, weather channel? * http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *My favorite weather source is *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif
What is your favorite summer sport to view? *My grandchildren and great- grandchildren swimming. *(Haven't done any of that this year)
What is your favorite store bought cookie? *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif *Chips Ahoy Soft Batch Chocolate Chip
What is your favorite flavor of ice-cream? *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif *Butter Pecan *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
Do you know how to swim? *Absolutely

Good Sunday Morning......my prayers for all of you in the South East.....waiting on this storm. *I actually said to the Truckinfarmer, why don't those people just move somewhere else........well...I know better than to ask that............but when push comes to shove?......I ask it again. *I don't know how you all can take that kind of beating, over and over. *You have to be tough ...........!!!!!!!!! !!
Our local weatherman suggested Dennis' eye is equivilent to a Type 2-3 Tornado...I probably am describing this wrong.........12 miles wide. *And, I panic when they are 2 blocks wide..........we had a tornado/wind event on July 4......just above our back 40.....blew out a couple barns, and took out the electric poles.....on one farm......to me that is BIG.
But 12 miles wide? *Wind like that?.........God have Mercy.
It's hot and dry yet in the Ozarks....last night 39% humidity...that is unreal..we are usually MUGGY.....Janice Dean/Fox is saying Dennis is veering to the east......this killer storm is our only prayer for water for another 10 days or so.......if it has to come, let it give me some rain.....even if it is a dirty rotten devil. *Tuesday or Wednesday I hope for a shower or two.
I agree, pray for our British cousins.......and it was very spooky last night with the Birmingham evacuation.......... sheese. *Now that is what the terrorists want.........over reaction to 'nothing' to totally disrupt our lives, and keep us in fear. *But whatcha gonna do?
Whewwwwwww.......my Prayers for your wrist, Laurie
Now.........

Now, the year of the Ankorage Alaska earthquake.......we were alerted to move inland. *WE were abalone fishing up north of Cresent City, CA.......the tide was out and perfect for early abalone......we packed up and left and we know what happened to Cresent City and their Tsunami.......whewww wwwwwwwwww.

Speaking of gas........we keep a 500 gal tank of gas here......if we have electric it operates just like the gas station pumps, if not.....it is like an old fashioned pumper.......takes awhile longer but...it works. *Can you have tanks like that too, in the hurricane states? *We fill up each spring for tractors ...........they seem to be running good with the lead additive we add for them. *I think having your own gas tank is a good idea, and we have a generator too.....but Ive never personally had to make it work........GOOD THING. *We keep a 500 gal fuel oil tank filled as well........that is for trucks. *Doesnt go far, but in a pinch about 50 gals can get you to the nearest, open gas station. *These tanks are above ground.
Welcome Timbercutter........ glad to see ya, and don't be a stranger http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I just told hubby who has plans to go to Selma Alabama again this week......he cannot *go til Wednesday.......his response? *Narrowed eyes. *Is he nuts? *They wont let them down there, the I 65 is only north bound during the day?..........he chased those tornados from Selma to Birmingham last week......then he went to Chattanooga and they went to Atlanta..........wel l.....hrumphhhhhhhhh hhh.......he should hook up to a gas tanker.......and just be useful if he has to be so obstinate.
Our local GOOD GUYS took off for *Mississippi, with trailer loads[meaning 18 wheelers] of necessary items for life.......to wait and see what/where they are needed the most. *The local authorities will direct them at just the right time.
Well.......Im praying for you all in the South East....for your safety and for your peace of mind. *Please as utilities permit..........keep us informed as to what is going on and how you are.........you know what they say about hearing it 'from the horse's mouth'?...........We ll......
Love to all..........

Good morning http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif ns!
It's gonna be in the 90s today. Thank heavem we're o,vpted tp a BBQ tpdau/ "Oops! That be "invited to a BBQ today. They have a large swimming pool and the party's pretty much given for Colin's quartet so there'll be lots of swimmin', eatin' and singin'. I'm even bringing my swim suit which I ordinarily wouldn't wear in front of anybody under the age of 60. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif However, "deeze are da conditions what prevail" for all you golden oldies out there who remember "The Schnozz." I'm throwin' the Hub's suit in, too, but don't tell him
I should be workin' on that dadgum newsletter, but I'm kind of stuck. I'm doing a collage of our Flag Day Parade festivities and don't exactly know how to go about combining actual pix with on-line pix. My printer isn't good enough to print out copies even on the best setting and on photograph paper. The life of an editor is not all http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/beer.gif and skittles, you know. Ah well, I'll think about that tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day.
Dennis sounds terrible, the big monster! Keep your heads down and your powder dry, our friends who are in front of him. We'll keep praying for you. Cheese, I saw a special a few years ago about people who think they can outface a hurricane. I think they were only able to interview their next of kin. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yikes.gif
Got to go. The shower is beckoning and so are a few dishes in the sink from last night. Had the kitchen all cleaned up (or as clean as it ever gets) last night and decided to make deviled eggs for the BBQ. I must have dirtied 6 containers plus the saucepan and an oversized handful of utensils. No wonder I HATE HOUSEWORK!!

Do you check a weather source every day or just when you might have outdoor plans?
Since moving to Az. Who needs to check. It is the same every day. Sunny.
What is your favorite weather source? Internet. Newspaper, local news, weather channel?

Old Man....your trivia answers made me smile this morning.....and I'm not in a smiling mood, so thank you very much.
You know, I post as Clancy here. *Some of you know that Clancy was my beloved dog. *He was my siamese twin for eight years, till yesterday. *He lost the fight with autoimmune hemolytic anemia and passed to doggy heaven in my arms at the office of our wonderful vet. *We can never explain the closeness between that special dog and owner. *Leave it to say there will never be another Clancy....the dog who could smile and always offered a head to rest my hand on. *
We are leaving tomorrow for a 6 week trip in the motorcoach. *I'm not taking the computer, but if there is a chance, I'll check out the topics. *I haven't been posting much, but it's been a hard time here and we're just trying to hold on.

Belated http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/HB.gif to Firstshirtslady! *You can bet if your birthdate had been posted you would have seen a lot of these! *I hope you had a wonderful birthday and here's some http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/orange.gif es from the http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/otree.gif groves of one http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cowboy7.gif Flguy! *Guaranteed to bring a bit of http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sun1.gif to your day!

Commodore Barrett

The Commodore & His Lady unto the Forum: greetings.
Unto Clancy, concerning the loss of your animal companion, the Commodore & his Lady extend heartfelt condolences. We have been there twice in the past year, with the loss of the Lady's rabbit and later, with the loss of one of the two cats. Both companions rest in our back yard.
They loved us; we loved them.
As is taught in Scripture, life goes on. And with that, the Commodore now turns to tracking Hurricane "Dennis the Menace". As the Commodore interprets the data out of the NOAA Website, Dennis is on a NW to WNW course (as of the time of writing). New Orleans will be spared this bout of the Wrath of God, but her days are numbered. Only God knows the specific hurricane which will destroy the Big Easy, and He has a better classification system than the Government. Goodbye Louisiana!!! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif "I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that all should come to repentance." God.
Re Londinium and her bout with the terrorists: although a certain group allied with al-Queda has asserted responsibility, the Commodore has a slightly different opinion as to origin: Provisional IRA. According to FBI, Scotland Yard, BKA, and similar data, over the years of dealing with the Terror International, a form of cross-fertilization has developed in the types of political violence movements the legal authorities have had to confront with the end of European hostilities in 1945. The days of the large armies confronting each other at both ends of the Fulda Gap are over until the Last Trumpet. Hence political violence currently takes the form of acts of terror. (The Commodore will develop this thesis in the War on Terror area of the Forum.)
On a different note:
YE TRIVIA
Really serious storms?
The Commodore & his Lady have survived some nasty ones: Winter 1978; Ohio River Flood of 1997; one or two tornadoes; the 1995 New Madrid earthquake (5.1 Richter -- the Commodore was awakened by the quake; he remembers saying, "If God wants to call Me Home, that is His Right to do." So he rolled over and went back to sleep while New Madrid spoke.)
The worst? Ohio River Flood of 1997. Butler VFD had been called out to deal with the Licking River aspect of the Ohio River Flood; the Commodore was visiting his fratres at DeMoss Lodge for their stated meeting. Coffee, sandwiches, and fellowship were going on until one of the Butler VFD showed up at the Lodge Hall and advised the Brothers to move everything to higher ground. The Commodore assisted in both the Lodge and the Methodist Church next door, moving paraphenalia to the higher floor until ordered out of Butler with his fellows from Campbell County by the sitting Master of the Lodge (the Commodore living in Newport, the VFD & Pendleton County Sheriff could not guarantee that US 27 would stay open after midnight). The Commodore still remembers John Dunn, now Sheriff of Campbell County (and a Mason in Mayo Lodge #198) earning the Troopers' Medal for his heroism in lifesaving during the aftermath of the Flood. A number of Medals were won in the aftermath of that flood, but the Commodore digresses.
Power losses? Not since their marriage, but the Commodore & his Lady have had one major loss. Not due to a storm, but due to the Newport Water Works severing an underground gas line owned by Cinergy, the Commodore shared the sadness of his fellow Newporters having to evacuate until the gas line could be repaired. Fortunately, the Commodore's Lady had relatives nearby, so they were taken in for the hours needed to restore gas to their home.
Weather Source?
The Internet, chiefly www.cincinnati.com
Favorite Summer Sport
NASCAR & NFL Europe League, though there is a sentiment for the young (and young at heart) pairing off with a view of engaging in Matrimony.
Both the Commodore & his Lady like cookies (& ice cream), without favorites. The Commodore does have a wish for the Nutter Butter Peanut Butter type of Cookie, though. As for the Ice Cream, the Commodore & his Lady prefer the Cookies & Cream type, though the Commodore himself likes the mint variety better than the regular (his Lady's preference).
Now for the threads and view to the aftermath of Dennis the Menace.

How many really serious storms have you been in?
A: Just 2 or 3.
What is the absolutely worst storm you’ve ever been in?
A: The worst was Hurricane Carla in Houston in the early 60's when I was little. *Dad and I put on swimsuits and ponchos and went to the store for candles and donut mix!
Have you ever lost power during a storm; for how long?
A: Many times, usually just for an hour or so. *But with Carla, it was a few days as I recall.
Do you check a weather source every day or just when you might have outdoor plans?
A: I pay attention all the time since it's quite dry and San Antonio has its own natural water supply, so it's often 'rationed.'
What is your favorite weather source? *Internet. Newspaper, local news, weather channel?
A: Local news, then the weather channel.
What is your favorite summer sport to view?
A: Swimming/Diving - summer olympic stuff.
What is your favorite store bought cookie?

I love trivia, that was fun! *Hubs just returned from Home Depot while I http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/pop.gif in here. *He's repairing one of the sprinkler system heads. *
I need to wash some clothes and clean this house! *But, we are getting a new driveway and walkway next week so maybe I should just wait until that's done! *We got lucky and grabbed the guys who did the work at our neighbor's across the street. *
The plan after that is to put a slate-looking tile on our front porch. *Hubs has told me our porch light has a bad socket...Makes me mad, that thing cost a bundle and it's only 7 years old! *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif
Oh well, enough about me...

Clancy, so sorry to hear about your beloved pet. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad1.gif Our pets are family too and their loss is felt just as though they were human. As least it is for me.
Love everybody's trivia answers today. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif
Dennis is about to slam into Pensacola. But our wonderful Governor Jeb Bush really stepped up to bat early. FEMA, Red Cross, et all are already in the area and ready to help as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you Jeb. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yes.gif My prayers are all I can do for those who are in harms way. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shake.gif

Clancy, condolences on your loss. I've lost many animal loved-ones. Still miss them. Enjoy your trip. Our plans are finally coming together and we will be leaving in the morning.
TRIVIA:
1. 4 that caused damage (not counting those that were just scary) - 1 TX - hurricane, 3 ID - 1 windstorm, 1 ice storm and 1 snowstorm.
2. Hurricane Celia - Portland, TX 8/3/1970 (evacuated before it hit but damage was sufficient to put us in a HUD trailer for 6 weeks while they repaired roof, ceiling, dining room wall, replace carpet, interior walls, etc.)
3. Always loose power in a storm, longest was about a week (see #2)
4. Weather is checked everyday and shared over the State MARS net.
5. Own weather station for current; internet and local TV for extended.
6. Not a sports fan
7. Pepperidge Farms Chesepeake
8. Blue Bell Moo lenium
9. Use to know how - haven't been swimming in years

Me too Tonja. I shudder to think what will happen when he is no longer Governor. We won't be that lucky again, I'm sure. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif

Happy Sunday Afternoon:
We just got back from the lake where we have been camping-out since Friday. We had a great time. We got a spot right next to the water and had our own "private beach". The kids loved it.
They are totally "worn-out" now; and guess what, I am too. It's great to be home and rest from all of the "rest and relaxation".
I think I'll skip the trivia today.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wavey.gif

I haven't seen Stormy's font here recently. Guess I'd better get on the stick and pm her and see how she's doin'.
I've been so darn busy packing and making some touchups on the house, plus showing it, that sometimes I get plumb sidetracked.
Well, I'm gonna call it a night. So, I hope nobody misses Sandman, because that's too bad...I've got 'im. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
