Marines find weapons, ammunition caches and a huge underground bunker west of Baghdad
SAMEER N. YACOUB
Associated Press Writer *
LATIFIYAH, Iraq — Hundreds of Iraqi and U.S. troops searched fields and farms Saturday for insurgents and their hideouts in an area south of Baghdad known for attacks, and the Marines said they discovered 50 weapons and ammunition caches and a huge underground bunker west of the capital fitted out with air conditioning, a kitchen and showers.

How much do you wanna bet the MSM will not report this? *This is great news.

You are right Katy, this is good news. I have seen many articles in which Iraqi's have reported that Saddam had built many underground bunkers in many different places in Iraqi - I hope this will encourage them to search for more.

This is a little disturbing:
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">About two hours into the operation, for example, American forces voiced concern that an area covered in tall grass had not been searched. An Iraqi commander said he was reluctant to send his troops into the field for fear of an insurgent attack.
and
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">"This is a dangerous area. We need helicopters and the American army," Iraqi Brig. Gen. Najim al-Ekabi said.
http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif Well, it doesn't look as though they have quite enough heart into the "Fight" yet!
Either they're sincere wimps and aren't nowhere near ready to take control of their own country!
Or, they're "reluctant" to expose the enemy hideout[s]!!

Danny:
I read this a little different than you did. I read it as though they know their strengths and know when they need help. This is good.
However, it could be as you described; I hope not.

Perhaps that is the case Jack. After reading a few paragraphs, it still makes me wonder if they're just a little TOO dependent on the U.S military, or if they're purposely leaving as many rocks un-turned for another reason altogether!
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">Maj. Ronny Echelberger later went into the area with American forces and searched a few homes, saying he was not been sure the Iraqi search had been sufficiently thorough.
Makes me suspicious when I read stuff like this!
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">The Iraqi army's reliance on U.S. troops was evident in other ways. Echelberger had to show an Iraqi brigade commander his location on a map shortly before Iraqi troops launched the operation, and a few minutes later Iraqi soldiers fired hundreds of rounds when they mistakenly thought they saw an insurgent.
Or they're just down right scared and don't wanna risk it!! Not good!

One thing that I have noticed, Muslims are more scared of other Muslims, than we are.
That's why very few of them speak out. They are scared of the repercussions of their speaking.
It's almost like a mafia thing, every family is scared of the other family. Or, they have respect in some kind of weird way, for the other family.
Distrust breeds distrust!

True words indeed.
Speaking of the Mafia, the "Butcher of Baghdad" was very fond of the "GodFather" and apparently had tried to imitate many scenes.. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Seventh century mentality in a 21 st century world might well breed distrust also.
Am I the only one mad as hell about this story!!??
The Germans supposedly built all of these bunkers for Saddam. Why haven't we already been given the locations of ALL of them?? A lot of military and civilian deaths could have been avoided and a lot of lives can be saved in the future if we didn't have to find them all by ourselves.

I agree. That was my initial thoughts to this story when I first read it. Papajaxx may be on to something as for the fear they have of eachother. It may be one of the contributing factors to getting our soldiers killed, because they won't step up or speak up.

This is a pretty big place! I wonder how many more there are. I also wonder just how many WMD's might fit in a complex like this. How many false walls could you build in this complex to provide hidden rooms for "other" storage?

Interesting question! I'll bet the answer will be interesting as well, should it ever be answered...

I agree on what has been said in this thread so far. *I do believe the Iraqi soldiers is showing some fear. *They are afraid someone is going to killed while looking for these weapons. *They are not ready to take control themselves.
http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif How did the Germans ship these weapons to Saddam Hussein in the first place? *And, let's start looking and investigating at other countries who were shipping these weapons to Iraq: France, Russia, Syria, Saudi Arabia to name a few.

Good question Danny. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif
How and when did they ship those weapons? What did they use to transport those weapons?
We need to ask Saddam and his fellow terrorists these questions. We need to force them these questions.
I can hear the MSM and the ACLU now asking what are you doing to this poor soul.

Colonel David Hunt was on Fox News this morning talking about this. He said Saddam had paid the French and the Germans "billions" to build these type bunkers and most of them will be very difficult to find.
Danny, as for the electricity, it is possible they have underground cables and of course generators.
The news media reported that Saddam has one palace and grounds the size of Washington D.C. - wonder if that area has been searched?
The underground cables are becomming very popular in my area.

Generators would be a good possiblity. I was thinking more on the lines of power grids and metering systems re: power. But you're probably right, they more than likely would use generators. It would be interesting to find out. Guess I'll have to do some research, if this type of info is available.

The Commodore & his Lady unto the Forum: greetings from The Underground!
Re the bunkers found in Anbar Province near Fallujah: Edward Wong, embedded with the 2nd Marine Division & accredited to The New York Times, reported the story. Unfortunately, it was located in The Cincinnati Enquirer on Page A-14 of the Enquirer for Sunday, 5th June of this year.
Be that as it may, the Iraqi soldiers may well be showing honest fear. We do not know from what tribes these recruits are being drawn; the Commodore would suggest that as soldiers are recruited from Southern Iraq, where the fighting is over pro tempore, and from the Kurdish region. The Kurds have a score to settle with Saddam Hussein and his henchmen dating back 20 or more years, when the Insane dropped poisonous gas on Kurdish areas of Iraq; let them go into Anbar Province and deal with the Sunnis, after being trained in soldiery per the American or (at least) British model. The British have had experience with the Middle East dating back to the 1920s.
As for the Germans and their building these hiding places for the Insane and his cronies, the Schroeder Government in the Bundestag is on shaky ground. Provided the (English terminology herein) Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union of Bavaria coalition gains operational control of the Bundestag later this year, don't be surprised if German corporations start disclosing data to NATO in re the Hussein-era bunkers; going through the NATO organization is an acceptable compromise for the Germans.
As for underground cables in and of themselves: the Commodore is active in discussions of Extra-Terrestrial Cities. Underground Cables was one of the first issues discussed in the group; it was adopted without serious dissent. Everyone likes a good view, unobstructed by overhead wiring.

Burying power line in Miramar, Florida.
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr class="standard"><td>Quote </td></tr><tr class="standard"><td class="QUOTE">
-snip-
FLORIDA -- Florida Power & Light is burying electrical distribution lines in Miramar, spending extra thousands, after city commissioners could not be talked out of the issue. "From our point of view, it is their obligation. Our concern is not what it will cost them," a city official told the Sun-Sentinel (7/10), a Ft. Lauderdale newspaper. Object of the game: To maintain the "scenic corridor" designation for Miramar Parkway. According to city officials, without the 45-foot-high utility poles on the parkway, they now have more flexibility in what kind of trees they can plant there.

If the committee looking for WMD's could not find this large underground compound, and the others like it, how can the liberals still believe every stone was turned in the search for WMD's and discount the trucks seen heading for Syria? I guess the line of thought is "
since they weren't where we looked, they must never have been any anywhere"!

If we were fortunate enough to find a bunker full of WMD's, the liberals would say that we "planted them" there.
You're not going to win with those who just want President Bush to look bad. I've met very few liberals who are interested in the truth. The truth does not work well in their idealogy.

I miss the days when The American People voted in a President, then everybody supported him, even those who voted otherwise... Remenber when "NOT" supporting the "Will of The American People and OUR President" was considered unpatriotic?
I never thought I'd see the day when my memories would become my dreams...
