Man With Suitcases Captured at Capitol

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Police on Monday tackled and forcibly dragged away a man dressed in black and carrying two suitcases who had stationed himself in front of the west side of the U.S. Capitol.

The midday incident — which occurred during one of Washington's busiest tourist times, the annual flowering of the cherry blossoms — had forced police to evacuate that side of the Capitol in fear of a possible explosion.

I wonder what was in the suitcases; it didn't mention? Something appears fishy here!

That IS odd, not picking them up, and then not putting the man in the ambulance. And that he never said anything, unless he's not fluent in English?

Why is anyone surprised by a strange happening in D.C.? Every time the congress convenes, it is a happening of strang things. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Fox News reported that the suitcases contained no bombs or weapons.

They also reported that he was an illegal immigrant. He was an ethnic Chinese but an Australian citizen who had over-stayed his travel visa.

I think he was just a kook.

I watched this event unfold, yesterday, and I thought it was absolutely terrifying! *This guy, standing between two suitcases and all dressed in black just staring at the Capitol. *There are things in the story that just don't jive with what was being reported. *First of all, they said it was Capitol Police that charged up to the man...not SWAT police. *Then, they sent in a guy from the bomb squad and he used a "sniffer" to try to detect explosive residue. *Afterwards, they used a radar, (I don't know if it was remote-controlled or not) to "look" into the suitcases. *It was reported that the suitcase with the pull-along handle contained what looked like wires, a timer device and two or three sticks of something. *They took no chances and blew up that suitcase. *They reported that the other suitcase did not contain anything suspicious. *

FOX was very disappointing in their live coverage because it was almost non-existent. In fact, they left the coverage to return to their regular programming and said they would interrupt regular programming if events required. Perhaps they were afraid to cover what might take place, I don't have any idea. All I know is that*I had to watch MSNBC, instead. *

It was also reported that the Capitol Police had had previous dealings with this man. *Who knows what the real truth is...I don't believe this article and I'm a bit suspect as to the TV coverage. *Perhaps one day we'll be told the truth. *All I know is that when those brave police officers charged that guy I closed my eyes and prayed real hard because I just knew we were going to watch this guy detonate a bomb and it would have been horrific. *Sick...just sick! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shake.gif
