Dear Friend,

When I anchored the evening news, I kept my opinions to myself. *But now, more than ever, I feel I must speak out. *That’s because I am deeply disturbed by the dangerous and growing influence of people like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell on our nation’s political leaders.

The Christian Coalition has more than two million members and a growing *coffer of funds, helping it influence elections and political candidates. *In response, many members of Congress are forced to cave into its *demands. Even politicians – who privately dislike its tactics or are uncomfortable *with its political agenda – have been scared into submission.

Are we really expected to believe that? * http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I believe President Bush received around 51,000,000 votes and those 2,000,000 certainly helped, but I doubt they are enough to scare anyone into submission. *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I have watched with increasing alarm as the Christian Coalition and other Religious Right groups manipulate religion to further their intolerant, political agendas. *Over the years, Robertson and Falwell have gained considerable influence on local school boards, in the administration, and in Congress. They have shrewdly twisted the traditional healing role of religion into an intolerant, political platform.
[/QUOTE]

Ever notice they never tell us exactly what those intolerant political agendas are and speaking of the healing role of religion, I wonder if maybe he has "conveniently forgotten" the role of religion in taking a stand against abortion and homosexuality - actually that is most likely what he is referring to when he uses the word "intolerant"

I find the Hollywood left as intolerant and the left has no problem submitting to them.

Fascinating. The INTER-FAITH ALLIANCE has an all-out assault on the "religious right", which is another "Interfaith Alliance".

Basically, the wiccans, shintos, taoists and the liberal Church of Christs are all ganging up on the conservative Christians, and using Kronkite as a mouthpiece. How quaint.

What if I started a group that say all the gay groups had to shut up and stay out of politics? That's the same intolerance.

Bring it on, Kronkite. Just remember what happened to your buddy, Dan Rather. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rotflo.gif

Who rattled Cronkite's retirement cage? He was silent all these years and now I see him IN the news almost as much as he used to report it.

Ah but unfortunately we can't get Walter "retired" again. *Do you think if he were made to look like a big enough fool he would just go away?

Well, Walter, do like I do and just change the channel.

Pat Robertson's whiny voice annoys me. His tactics nauseate me. I haven't watched him since the hurricanes in 1996 when our cable was out and I could only get one TV station so I can't say what he talks about these days. Jerry Falwell? Isn't he the one who saw the 800 foot Jesus?

Don't get excited, those of you who like these guys. I don't dispute their right to air their messages. I don't disupte people's right to watch or not watch, as they see fit. But then, I feel the same way about Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings and all the others. Sometimes the best tv button is the one that turns it off.

I don't see any hard evidence that Pat Roberston has any influence over anything. If he has all this influence in the schools and over politics as Walter claims, then why is everything still so messed up?

Just my two cents.

OOPS! Sorry Jerry Falwell, whoever you are. Didn't mean to drag you through the mud.
