WASHINGTON (GOPUSA News) -- The Department of Defense released last week a summary of space technologies that it is now capable of using in combat operations. The capabilities range from Global Positioning Systems to battlefield imagery and promise to make the United States military the most intelligent, aware, and adaptable military in the world.

"Space over time now has, since Desert Shield [and] Desert Storm, which was really the coming-out portion... really made a difference," said Major General Judd Blaisdell, the Director of Space Operations and Integration for the Air Force.

Blaisdell referred to space as the "ultimate high ground," speaking of "real situational awareness" that will make tactical planning and decision-making easier in any arena of engagement.

Good article Terri. Two throughts about it; first, the things that come from space technology are all the more reason to not abandon our space prorgram (as many are calling for) in the wake of the shuttle disaster. Not only military technology, but everyday things that make life easier (from the material our almost indestructable phones are made out of, to velcro and dehydrated foods for camping) have ceom from items originally tested for space utilization. Secondly, in light of the amazing advantage satellites give one in war, the first part of any strategy the US should have against certain of our enemies, would be to take out their satellites (not that any of them have them we are looking at currently).
