Brothers Travis and Taylor Burnham are both in the Army yet find themselves on opposite sides of a looming conflict with Iraq: one is willing to fight and the other is not.

Travis, 24, is stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., where he applied for conscientious objector status in January. Taylor, 27, is a combat engineer in Kuwait waiting for a potential invasion of Iraq.

This makes me furious. Why join the Army if you are a pacifist? http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/fire.gif

Hes like many who join for a job during peacetime. They are interested in the paycheck and never had any intentions of serving their country. I guess its the same everywhere - how many people did you know, during your years of working, that wanted to get paid, but didn't want or intend to do the job?.

Der Alte is right on the money. After spending over 26 years in the U.S. Navy their was never any doubt in my mind what the job might entail. The U.S. Army should immediately discharge this young man. They certainly don't need him taking up space. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

This is shameful, and should be criminal.

Quote[/b] ]More recently, he marched in anti-war protests and spoke openly about his objections.

I retired from the U.S.Navy after 21 years, and during that time, I never had any doubts about what I might be required to do, no matter what my reasons were for joining.

Quote[/b] ]They enlisted in peacetime to earn money for college, gain discipline and see the world.

After reading the whole article, I am surprised that he was able to pass the AS/VAB... or whatever entry exam they use now.
