The Bush administration has rejected the prospect of mass deportations of Muslim illegal aliens.

The administration plans to relay this message to American Muslim leaders amid the current nationwide alert for an Al Qaida attack. Hundreds of Muslims have been detained as illegal aliens as part of a crackdown by federal law enforcement authorities, Middle East Newsline reported.

On Tuesday, FBI Director Robert Mueller will meet American Muslim leaders to discuss federal measures against Al Qaida threats. Muslim groups have filed a class action suit against the government, charging that the Immigration and Naturalization Service has arrested Muslims illegally.

Muslim groups said the millions of Muslims in the United States have been the target of a backlash since the Al Qaida suicide attacks on New York and Washington in September 2001. They said at least 15 Muslims and a Sikh have been killed in attacks around the country.

Officials said Mueller plans to discuss the attacks on Muslims as well as policy toward illegal aliens. They said this will include a law passed over the last year that requires citizens from many Arab and Islamic nations to register with the INS. The procedure also includes photographing and fingerprinting.

Muslim groups have expressed concern that the law will result in the detention and deportation of hundreds of thousands of Arab and Islamic immigrants who arrived illegally or whose visas have expired. (http://www.worldtribune.com /worldtribune/index_ss.html)

Happy, looks like you jumped in with both feet - thats good, but don't jump without looking where you would land. There are a number of us that are dis-pleased with the administrations stand or lack of a stand on the illegal aliens and we write our Congressmen, Senators and the President frequently to vent our displeasure. Working together we have been able to defeat a number of attempts to give amnesty to the aliens - some of the attempts came from the present administration. The problem is that we have to vote for Bush and the Republicans as the lesser of two evils - the Democrats have promised amnesty and during the last election Gephardt promised to submit legislation to give immediate amnesty if they regained power. We need to all get together and use our collective ideas to come up with a way to convince the administration that it is in their best interest to solve the problem with the illegals. Never give up or give in to the enemy - together we can prevail.

Oh, PLEASE do not misunderstand my words. I voted for Bush (though Alan Keyes was my choice in the primaries), and I STILL stand behind Bush.

I just think he's making a terrible choice, and it's a mistake that is bound to bite us (his constitutents) in the butt down the line.

Though I disagree with Bush, and back in the days when Slick Willy was in office, I still backed my leader 100%. But I'm also vocal when I think they're screwing up. My voice was hoarse during the Clinton years, trust me. But when he said &quot;War in Bosnia&quot;, fine. Let's go. We voted for them on their leadership. Weather you see it as a &quot;best of the worst&quot;, fine. But we got the best that we voted for, so my support is behind the leader.

Terri, I guess I'm just to old and hardheaded to give up. To me the illegals in this country are a problem for all of us and will destroy the American way of life. Like I have previously stated, at my age it probably won't bother me to much, but there are a lot of children and grandchildren that will have to pay the price. What I continue to look for is that someone will come up with an idea that we can all jump on and convince the politicians that this is the right thing to do. I still favor screening the entire population of our nation and issuing a National ID Card that can't be duplicated. The card would be used for many things including entry into Federal buildings, opening bank accounts, drivers license, business licenses, hospital services etc. Illegals would still come, but they could be identified and would not be able to stick the rest of us with the bill. With the collective power of all the members of this forum we should be able to come up with a solution.
