Tancredo Calls on Owens, Governors Nationwide to Utilize 1996 Immigration Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today called on Governors nationwide to consider utilizing section 213A of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, which ensures reimbursements are sought from sponsors who have filed affidavits of support on behalf of aliens receiving public benefits.

“State budgets are being strained to an incredible degree, there is a federal law that can help,” said Tancredo. “Put simply, this provision allows States and/or counties to recoup some of their cost for providing social services, including Medicaid to legal immigrants.”

Go Tom Go. This legislation is basically the same as the INS rules worked before it was removed. Glad it was reinstated, but I doubt if any of the govenors will take advantage of it - to much work on their part.
