If you thought the New Year's Eve FBI manhunt for illegal aliens with fake passports was a disturbing sign of homeland insecurity, wait until you hear about who's been working on President George W. Bush's front lawn.

While the Secret Service has now instituted criminal and citizenship screening procedures for all tourists (including children) who visit the White House, federal agents failed to detect an illegal alien who used a false identity and fraudulent documents and was employed for at least two years as a supervisor of tent installation for White House social events.

This illegal alien had been ordered kicked out of the country by the Immigration and Naturalization Service in February 2000, but was able to evade the law and fool both his employer and the Secret Service through petty identity fraud. He was finally caught at the U.S.-Mexico border last month, but it was no thanks to the law enforcement agents in Washington who are assigned to protect the White House from unknown intruders.

The rest is this way (http://www.townhall.com/columnists/michellemalkin/mm20030103.shtml)

Sounds like they need to focus on the little things they can and should be able to control, rather than great expositories about the big picture....

"Dubya" has the answer to incidents like this. He wants to give amnesty to almost all the illegal aliens. That way we won't have any illegals, at least not until the first ones enter the U.S. as the bill is being signed. Maybe we could just make it a "rolling" amnesty; as soon as they get here, they'd be legal.

I know, jhf. I don't like his answers to the problem either.

Do you think that the pendulum is beginning to swing? I do. I don't think he's going to get away with amnesty and maybe not with leaving the borders so open for much longer.

For a while there, I too thought the pendulum was swinging in our direction. *Until the news broke about the administration's latest gimmick of thier desire to give Social Security to Mexicans. *(Read Ron Paul's commentary on American Patrol today.) *In a certain way, you might even see this as more serious than amnesty. *We all know that once these programs begin they are here from now to infinity.

Where are Hannity and O'Reilly on this thing. *I would have thought they would have been doing a banging the shoe on the table thing over this one.

And does anybody think that people from any other country won't try to jump on the bandwagon on this one?

navyblue, a lot of other countries are already on the SS bandwagon.

Hannity and Colmes had the vigilante border patrol group on tonight. Colmes was his usual ridiculous self. Hannity also addressed the issue on part of his radio show today.

O'Reilly did a segment on it tonight too.

I think everyone was just off for the holidays for a couple of weeks.

I don't get the feeling, Terri, that the pendulum is starting to swing toward more enforcement of the immigration laws. There are just too many people in both parties who want the "illegals", as do many other so-called "elites" (According to the recent poll.) As has been discussed before, the American public is going to have to rise up and demand that something be done. Is there any real reason to believe that will happen?

jhf, I'm the only one on this board who seems to see a bit of a change in the public arena. We'll just have to wait and see if I'm right or wrong. I base that hope on more public discussion of the problems.

Here are a couple of headlines that grabbed my attention just this morning but I've seen others like them just lately. They do not concern illegals from Mexico but they do signal a shift in INS thinking, at least they do to me.

"INS registration has S. Florida Muslims scared"

"50,000 Pakistanis Likely to be Detained Under INS"

Maybe there's a little good stuff going on. I read an article somewhere yesterday that said several hundred muslims were trying to get into Canada. There should be more about it in the next few days. They're apparently illegal and feel like they'd be better off in Canada. Might be evidence that more enforcement of the immigration laws, even a little, would do some good.

Terri,

I"d like to think it was me but probably just a coincidence. *I emailed Oreilly last night and asked him when he was going to say anything about the Social Security to illegals. *And guess what he is breaking tonight!
