NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Successful national defense starts at the local level with police, emergency medical services personnel and others working together to secure the nation's borders, former S.C. Attorney General Charlie Condon said Thursday during an address to the North Myrtle Beach Republican Club.
Condon, speaking at Ocean Drive Beach and Golf Resort, said there should be initiatives for states to allow local law enforcement to enforce immigration laws, because lack of enforcement at the national level led to the 2001 terrorist attacks, events that changed life in the United States forever.
"If this country can put a man on the moon, it can enforce its immigration laws," Condon said, stressing that he's not against immigration but for better enforcement of existing immigration laws.
