As the players from the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers football teams prepare to kick off Super Bowl XXXVII, Immigration and Naturalization Service agents kicked off their own pre-game activity arresting dozens in a security sweep dubbed "Operation Game Day," according to published reports.

More than 50 foreign-born security guards, transportation workers and taxicab drivers have been arrested in San Diego on suspicion of being in the United States illegally.

The Los Angeles Times reports investigators targeted security companies hired to help protect fans attending Sunday's game and festivities leading up to the high-profile event at Qualcomm Stadium.

Immigration officers told the San Diego Union-Tribune roughly 80 people have been singled out altogether and more arrests are expected.

Well that's just peachy! *And now we can sit back and wait for the cheerleaders to scream racism.

BTW! *On another topic a day or two ago, *somebody mentioned that Asa Hutchinson had been appointed head of border enforcement in the new Homeland Security Dept. *I do remember him being discussed in quite strong terms re the immigration issue, but this foggy old brain doesn't remember if he was an open borders advocate or if he was one of the good guys. *Can anyone bring me up to speed on this?

navyblue ~ I'm not certain what his stance on immigration is, but he is 100% against all the things that the ACLU is for. When he was in Congress he voted in the following:

Juvenile Justice H.R. 3 ~for
Flag Desecration H.J. Res 64 ~for
Ten CommandmentsH Con Res 31 ~for
Parental Notification AmendmentH.R. 2264 ~for
District of Columbia Appropriations H.R. 2607 ~ against
Abortion Procedure Ban H.R. 1122 ~for

IMO, he is definitely one of the "good" guys.

I don't know what feelings Asa has toward illegals, but remember he is part of the Bush administration and you know what they have tried for the past two years.

So the ACLU screams, well I have something that I want to get rid of and the ACLU has a place I would like to shove it - would they sue me?

Am not sure of Hutchinson's position on immigration enforcement. But does it really matter? He's been appointed by Bush who has shown no particular interest in enforcing the immigration laws. Hutchinson is going to do what "the boss" wants. (Or doesn't want.)

Does it strike anyone as ironic that security for the Super Bowl seems to be better than for the country's borders?

I may be scrambled on this, but I don't think so. My recollection is that he's an open borders kind of idiot. I'm pulling this from the recesses of my horrible memory, but I remember being complete http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif over it because I had always considered him one conservative to be counted on.
