Goodlatte to Introduce Bill to End Diversity Visa Lottery
Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) plans to introduce legislation this week to end the much abused diversity visa lottery program. This program creates 50,000 visas per year for applicants from countries that have been "disadvantaged" in the immigration flow. This list of countries includes 24 predominantly Islamic countries that have been designated by the State Department as countries that support or harbor terrorists. In the last three years, over 42,000 immigrants from these countries have been granted visas under this program. One visa lottery winner was the wife of Hesham Mohamed Hadayet, the Egyptian national who attacked the El Al ticket counter in a terrorist attack at Los Angeles Airport on July 4, 2002. Based on her status afforded by the diversity lottery program, Hadayet was able to qualify to remain in the U.S. under the mini-amnesty Section 245(i), in spite of the fact that he had been turned down earlier for residency in this country.
Flake Introduces Document Security Legislation
On February 7, Representative Jeff Flake (R-AZ) introduced legislation (H.R. 655) to bar federal agencies from accepting for any identification-related purpose a state-issued driver's license, or other comparable identification document, unless the document issued expires upon the expiration of the alien's authorized period of stay in the United States. Flake had a similar bill pending last Congress that was successfully reported out of the Immigration Subcommittee but never approved by the full Judiciary Committee. FAIR supported last year's legislation and will fully support the new legislation this year.
Amnesty Push Continues
The amnesty push continues, as elected supporters of mass immigration introduce bill after bill to reward illegal aliens with permanent resident status. The latest push was made by Representative Major Owens (D-NY), who introduced his blanket amnesty bill, H.R. 604, last Wednesday. Other attempts have been made by Representatives Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX). Gutierrez introduced his bill, H.R. 440, to amnesty illegal aliens with "longstanding ties to the United States" in late January. Gutierrez's bill would reward illegal aliens for avoiding detection for a specified period of time. Jackson-Lee also introduced amnesty legislation in January, including H.R. 85, a bill to extend the mini-amnesty Section 245(i), and H.R. 84, a bill to amnesty all illegal alien children.
We will keep you posted on these and other legislative developments as they arise.

Looks like the Democrats are at it again. This will require everyone to get into their letter writing mode - the Prez, members of Congress and your Senators need to know that we are fed up with their attitudes towards illegals.
