"Rathergate" Scandal Takes New Turn
Accuracy in Media
In a bombshell in the CBS "Rathergate" panel report, it is revealed that Dan Rather personally assured CBS News President Andrew Heyward that the discredited Bush National Guard story was not only true but "very big." At the same time, Rather said it wasn't "as big as Abu Ghraib," the Iraqi prisoner abuse story used by CBS and other media to blacken the reputation and image of the United States around the world. What's more, it turns out that David Hackworth, a controversial retired colonel who has emerged as a strident opponent of how the Iraq war is being conducted, was a key source for canned CBS producer Mary Mapes in both stories.
Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in Media (AIM), commented that, "Rather's reference to Abu Ghraib, in the context of preparing the bogus attack on Bush, demonstrates that the agenda of Rather and CBS was not only to sabotage Bush's re-election campaign but to undermine the war in Iraq. They were looking for 'big' stories to hurt the U.S. at home and abroad. The Abu Ghraib story on CBS inflamed the Arab/Muslim world against the U.S., inevitably costing the lives of more American soldiers in Iraq at the hands of fanatical Muslim terrorists."

I hope someone keeps digging on this case. There is still more to this than is being revealed.

I have to say that I have never trusted David Hackworth. There is something really creepy about him.
Ok - I know that's not scientific, but there it is. My intuition is that he is creepy. Always thought that about Wesley Clark, too.

The disingenuous intellectualism of these people has no bounds. Remember, they have a Machiavellian attitude of the world -- 'the ends justifies the means'. If you understand that, you will know they will never stop coming at you or compromise. Be on guard.
As a conservative, I have a difficult time understanding their emotional arguments that flail in the face of logic. They do not. Liberal; progressive; secular; socialist; communist. Make no mistake, it’s all the same thing. Their PR machine is in full stride.
Hmm…let’s see. America did not buy our message in the last election. Let’s repackage this in a new box.
Don’t smoke – unless we get to tax it 75% -- then go ahead and puff away.
Don’t have a gun – but I am a celebrity and get paid to endorse K-Mart (who sells guns) and um…oh yeah my bodyguard carries a gun. You don’t mind do you? I need to protect myself against loony red neck gun toting conservatives.
Abortions at will – Planned Parenthood provides the worst quality condoms manufactured.
No SUVs – do as I say not as I do.
Etc….
Remember – the elitist media (like Rather) will continue to shove their agendas down our throats. Don’t get used to it. See it for what it is and fight back.

My concept of Machiavelli was pretty ornate until I read your post. Now it appears to me to be "I get what I want and you don't."
Your input is very concise and thought-provoking. I like your post. I think it will be difficult to separate the men from the boys, don't you? These mega-conglomerates are too hard to pin down and that's how they cloak their agendas, IMHO... http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Hackworth? *The same Hackworth that cast doubt upon the integrety of Adm. Borda? Hackworth lost all credibility years ago when he erroniously claimed the Adm. was wearing decorations he didn't rate. *I'm surprised anyone even considers him a reliable source for anything. *Rather and Hackworth. *There's a credible pair for you. *Who cares what they think about the prosecution of the war in Iraq?

I haven't noted that the other networks have taken the opportunity to blast C-BS and strengthen their positions. This couldn't be liberal bias, protecting one of their own, could it? That is okay, though. They are no different than C-BS which still hasn't really admitted the true intent of the "news". It took 10 days before they admitted that the documents were fake and will take the other networks and C-BS many years to admit they are fakes. Fortunately for us, the American viewing public will have gotten the picture and the MSM will be all but out of business.
