Why did George Bush win and John Kerry lose?
by Bruce Bartlett *

An extremely important debate is going on within both parties today: *Why did George Bush win and John Kerry lose?
* * * * * * * * *
Why was Bush better able to turn out his base?

The answers to these questions will do a lot to determine who the next nominees of the respective parties will be.

The post-election debate will also determine congressional strategy.

Democrats seem to be leaning toward the idea that Bush's victory is based primarily on turning out religious nuts to vote for him. These people are viewed in certain Democratic quarters as the American Taliban.

No wonder they fought Bush so strenuously.

If Democrats conclude that there is nothing to the values issue except religion, they will be very mistaken. *

This writer does have a point: that values is more than religion. It may have religious roots, but is much broader based than what's found in the Bible or church.

As he mentions it is also the value of not having a judge legislate from the bench - that's a good example of a value not based on religion, but on the Constitution.

And he's right in saying that if the democrats in their analysis of why they lost only see values as "religion" they will miss half the story.

We really don't have to go this deep.

Bush was the better leader and the better man.

Cut through the crap!

One reason President Bush won is because there were a lot of people afraid of what Kerry would do to our country. It was sort of a no-brainer . . . do I want a liar for a president or a man of character. Some chose liar (because they're liars too). Do I want a traitor who would sell our country to the UN or a man who stands up to terrorists and goes after them with both barrels? Some chose the traitor (but that's because they're traitors, too). Do I want a man who believes that life begins at conception but thinks it's OK to murder the life if the mother wants to or a man who values life and passed a law to ban partial birth abortion? Some chose the one who believes in murder (but it's possible that alot of them murdered their own, too). Do I want a man who has to dress up in a camouflage outfit to prove he's a man or do I want a REAL man who's essence exudes macho-linity http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin2.gif . Some chose the faux man, (but they like to play dress-up themselves).

I can't think of anymore right now, but there are such vast differences between the two candidates we could list them all til kingdom come and the result would still be the same . . . the people voted for George Bush, because he's like most of the people in the http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag19.gif</span>

These people are viewed in certain Democratic quarters as the American Taliban. It is thought that if they gain political power, not only will abortion and gay marriage be banned, but so will dancing, rock-and-roll and any movie with an &quot;R&quot; rating.

This is nothing but nonsense, but it's commonly believed in places like Hollywood and New York's Upper West Side.
And those are the people (Hollywood and New York's Upper West Side) who call US ignorant? Hah! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I question whether even very many of them actualy believe that. It's just something to throw out for the consumption of (what they hope are) their loyal followers.
They need to feed the masses something, and since they refuse to see the real reasons they lost, they have to come up with something.

Come to think of it, some of those hollywood types probably do believe it - it's the sort of thing that can be handled by someone with minimul mental capabilities.
