U.S. troops on the ground in Iraq are "terrified" at the prospect that Americans back home might elect John Kerry president, a Marine and Iraq veteran who is on his way back to the front lines said Monday.

Asked how Kerry's election would affect troop morale in the combat zone, Lance Cpl. Lawrence Romack told KWEL Midland, Texas, radio host Craig Anderson, "It would destroy it."

"We're pretty terrified of a John Kerry presidency," added Romack, who served with the 1st Marine Tank Battalion in Iraq.

The Iraq war vet said he fears that most of the news coverage is being skewed to make the mission look like a failure in order to give the Kerry campaign a boost.

"What they're trying to do is get Kerry into the White House, because they know he doesn't want us to stay [in Iraq]," he told Anderson.

Asked if Americans back home were getting an accurate picture of what's happening in the war, the Marine corporal said: "No, they're not. It's not even close. All the press wants to report is casualty counts. They don't want to report the progress we're making over there."

I agree with CPL Romack on the reports of the bad news coming from Iraq. The news media only wants to report killings, kidnappings ,beheadings, carbombs and above all I think they lay-in-wait for our troops body count so the Democrats and some republicans can say that our war efforts are failing there. I am a vet of 20 years of service and if Kerry was elected president I would have put my papers in to get out the service! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Unfortunately, in the media business, good news is not news. In a battle for ratings, viewers, and readers, the media only focuses on what people will pay attention to. This is, by no means, an excuse. When it comes to this war, the troops overseas are the people we should be listening to and trusting more than anyone.

vetmanrep, and this is why I have to laugh every time I hear Kerry saying his "plan" includes adding two more divisions and 40,000 more soldiers to our military. Does this idiot actually think he's going to attract more men and women to the military? EVERYONE I speak to in active service are terrified at the prospect of Kerry winning.

I truly hope GW addresses Kerry's claim in the next debate, particularly on his pie-in-the-sky proposal to double the numbers of SF men. It seems Kerry must be planning to lower the standards on SF training too to push through his agenda.

I am a Vietnam Vet and I cannot stand Kerry. I love Bush! I feel that he and I think almost exactly alike. I would love to meet him.

Kerry uses deception (smoke and mirrors) while Bush uses "truth". It is so easily to see.

That is why the military prefers Bush 4 to 1.

This is only my second post (first one is in today's Thursday Precinct) but could not be in more agreement with the troops terrified of a Kerry Presidency. Just two days ago I was saying good-bye to a young Army National Guard officer who has been called up to go to Iraq. I was telling him of the poll that had been taken of military personnel that almost 75% would vote for GWB and he said that if Kerry is elected he feels there will such a mass exodus of military personnel who are up for re-enlistment that the military may have to interevene to keep the armed forces from hemmoraging.

Pray for C.J. he is leaving a wife and three kids behind, the youngest, his only son, born just 10 days ago.
