In looking for the reason we’re in Iraq, people are trying too hard. *It’s really very simple. *We are fighting against Islamic terrorists. *The greatest concentration of these terrorists are in the Middle East. *We must, therefore, create a strong military presence in the Middle East. *
Think of a military strategist and a global map. *See the path this strategist must take to win. *Iraq gives us a good strategic position from which to fight the war on terror.
Ever hear the saying, “The best defense is a good offense?” *That’s because when we go on the offense, the other side must go on the defense. *That’s why the terrorists are sending their suicide bombers and other extremist military groups to Iraq—to stop our advance into their territories.
This allows us to choose the battlegrounds. *Rather than allowing them to put us on the defensive and fight the battles here, I say, let’s fight where the song says: *Over there. *Over there
Of course, this cannot be stated with complete political correctness. *But must our leaders really explain every step of our military plans to the American public and thus the world at large? *I certainly hope not. *We will not win a war against these enemies if we’re not allowed to keep secrets. *There are certain secrets that must be kept. *Our military strategy is one of them. *So when the Commander-in-Chief gives a reason for various military actions, let’s not spend too much energy trying to see if some ulterior motive lurks beneath. *It does—to win the war on terror.
Duh.
