I know you're all glad that it's Friday but don't forget that we are here on the weekend. The pace is slower but we're still talking about news and politics. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Can you believe that two of the 911 Commission members walked out of the questioning of the president before it was over? Weren't they complaining about not having enough time? Didn't they posture for the press over how important this testimony was? So what could be more important? How about a date with a congressman for one and a date with the Canadian Prime Minister for the other! What a farce this commission is. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/fire.gif
Fox News Jim Angle reported that 99% of the questions from the 911 Commission went to the president. He answered the questions without turning to anyone for advice. Cheney answered 1% of the questions. I hope the liberals realize who is in charge someday. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/clap.gif
The next in the wave of political hit books is Joe Wilson's, "The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA Identity". Remember this creep and UraniumGate? http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/it.gif
Malls in Los Angeles were under terror watch yesterday. Specific threats had been received. No doubt there will be more. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
If proof is needed, here is the proof that you might just as well lay down with the devil as support a RINO. The president pulled Arlen Specter's chestnuts out of the fire and gave him that win on Tuesday. This is how Specter pays him back. "I intend to retain my independent voice. The people of Pennsylvania have not elected me to be a rubber stamp. I don't give anybody a blank check, including the president of the United States." ~ Arlen Specter, paying back favors http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dead.gif

Link of the Day: *Remember! (sent by Texasleslie) (http://members.cox.net/classicweb/Heroes/heroes.htm)
Words of Wisdom: "I think after September 11, the American people are valuing life more and I think those are the kind of policies the American people can support, particularly at a time when we're facing an enemy, and really, the fundamental difference between us and the terror network we fight is that we value every life." *~ Karen Hughes
Flake of the Day: "(This) was an insensitive and divisive overreach. It is outrageous to suggest that those of us who challenge this administration's attacks on reproductive rights and access do not value life and human dignity. Indeed, it is because we value life and human dignity that we support a woman's right to choice." Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Gloria Feldt demanding that Karen Hughes apologize for the above statement.
Please remember to pray for our President and for our servicemen and women who are still in harm's way.
God Bless our great country. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/flag19.gif *May Freedom ever ring!</span>

Happy Friday to all of my friends at http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif *It's inching up close to 11:00pm here in the Liberal Northwest but I thought I had better catch up on my Forum reading. Good thing I did otherwise I might not have heard what all the flack was about today. *I was watching CNN, I know (gasp!) and saw someone say "I just can't believe they did that. I can't believe it happened." *I had no idea what it was until I found out it was the Kerrey and Hamilton walk out. Ouch! I hope this puts a huge damper on their career.
Terri, with regard to the sign in the Seattle window, we have a huge group of people that are going to be in front of that building all weekend with flags and "Support our Troops" signs. Consider the neighborhood. This is Seattle. There is a "Red" bookstore in the University District, a statue of Lenin in the Fremont District and now this sign in the Central District.
Ok. Today, Friday, is payday, it's supposed to be about 80+ degrees here, a bit breezy, and I'm feeling pretty good. Saturday, Sean and I are going to the new house to measure all the windows for screens and measure the opening for the new microwave. *Sunday, we're both going to a barbecue. Dad has to work both days. So, the busy stuff has slowed down yet. *
I forgot. *Welcome to all (100's) of new members. I'm enjoying your posts, opinions, and contributions. Keep it coming.
See you all sometime over the weekend I hope. BBFN.

Friday at last!!! Hubs is a tad more important to the Army now! http://www.tyr.armedforcesf amilies.com/album/Puppy%20Pics/images/7cc6f4873927ebd2e55a 6c7f4f5b7466_1083309 2250/image.gif Of course, his pay will get a tad more important too! http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
It's been raining since whatever unnatural hour hubs calls morning (that's Army brainwashing for you...they convince these poor defensless soldiers that strange hours of the middle of the night are morning!) http://www.tyr.armedforcesf amilies.com/album/Puppy%20Pics/images/48545edc70566c82e585 28234871b148_1083309 2420/image.gif ! LOL
What was the deal with the 911 commission yesterday?! I just read about in Drudge. I'm assuming that it was some kind of planned protest?
Well, I'm off to do somthing...anything. ..um...I don't have any plans...guess I can tidy up Rosie's room. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Of course, that requires pulling out the big guns! http://www.tyr.armedforcesf amilies.com/album/Puppy%20Pics/images/3f9a7f06e9fdbf7a8a00 539c8a751196_1083309 9370/thumb.gif LOL OK, it's not that bad...but sometimes I do wonder if I might find bin Laden hiding in the pile of stuffed animals in her room...LOL

Howdy Y'All!
Another wonderful Friday is here. Here's your morning http://www.terminweb.com/weblog/images/smallkk.jpg delivery. Today's specialty: chocolate sprinkles. The sprinkles were grown in Central Wyoming. Enjoy.
I attended one of the thousands of Parties for the President last night. I'm very glad I attended, and I'm very energized and pumped up. There were about 15 of us. All were friendly, happy, bright, conversational, knowledgeable and cleancut (even Mr. http://www.terminweb.com/weblog/images/smallkk.jpg). Could a room full of libs say that? Er, I mean, could a room full of libs truthfully say that? I highly reccommend you attend future parties. I will.
Sounds like the President had a good session with the 9-11 Commission yesterday. Who would not have wanted to be a fly on the wall for that meeting? I just wish they could produce a report that will help prevent future attacks, but I don't have much confidence about that.
LAW, Congratulations!!! Remember, this is a family accomplishment. Of course, he gets the new rank and title, but needed your love and support to get it. Enjoy the day and bask in the glory with a very special http://www.terminweb.com/weblog/images/smallkk.jpg for my USAREUR buddies.
And don't let the dems hear about Rosie's room. They know we're hiding Bin Laden somewhere just waiting to spring him for our October Surprise.
And because it's Friday, another round of http://www.terminweb.com/weblog/images/smallkk.jpgs across the Great http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif .
Later...

It has long been known that cows produce more greenhouse gases than all of the hydrocarbons we burn. But let’s not worry about them until we have gotten rid of all of the cats.
ABC Nightline went after Cheney last night as he orchestrated the whole Iraq war. They think he even tricked Powell into thinking that Saddam may have had some chemical weapons.

Good morning all! It seems there's a little flap over the 2 commisioners leaving early from the WH. This is bound to get good. I think from what I hear W had them in hand, answered their questions and what?? with NO HELP FROM CHENEY!
Some even hinted that Cheney was there to help the Pres...I do think he showed them...that he needs NO help!
You go MR PRESIDENT!
Interesting things going on in Iraq...let us hope that this will be the solution to stopping this madness. Iraq general under saddam is helping. I say let them help as long as they do it for the coalition.
Rain today again. Sending it your way..Laurie and Der Alte...

President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney answered every question on Thursday from the panel investigating the Sept. 11 attacks, a meeting that both the White House and the 9/11 commission had billed as historic. The Oval Office session began at 9:30 a.m. and ended at 12:40 p.m., but twoDemocrat commission members -- Lee Hamilton, the vice chairman, and Bob Kerrey -- walked out before it was over!

<ul> Senator, Iraq Is No Vietnam ~ Pavel Felgenhauer (http://www.gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.pl?act=ST; f=22;t=11363)
The administration of U.S. President George W. Bush has plenty of enemies both at home and abroad. A lot of people would love to see Bush get a bloody nose in Iraq, or anywhere else. Last week the critics had a field day: With heavy fighting in Fallujah and sporadic clashes breaking out elsewhere, Democratic Senator Edward Kennedy said that Iraq had become "George Bush's Vietnam," and declared that the United States needs a new leader.[/list]

I just heard that we are talking to an Iraqi general who is helping us with the battle for Fallujah. I wonder if he is one that we were talking to before we went into Iraq. I have often wondered what happened to the generals who were helping us and why we didn’t bring them back with their loyal troops.
I just saw the prisoner abuse pictures again and I’m not so sure that they are real. The theme of the degrading abuse seems to be that these Islamic fundamentalists are naked and being made fun of by a woman. My sure that these guys who set off road side bombs to kill our troops and passing women and children deserve better but I’m even surer that this woman in the pictures will be in high demand when she gets out of jail for torturing these poor terrorists. I was wondering why they would take pictures of these torture sections but I guess they wanted them for the cover of the book.

Why did it land in CBS??? Now the arab network has it..I think I smell a rat..

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't posted in here in a LLLOOOOONNNGGGG time. My boss made me the campaign coordinator and even though it's been pretty light this season, that, the VoterID responsibilities, some new responsibilities at church, owning a home and preparing for our second child has left me in a bit of a pinch for time. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
I had a personal interest in the Specter-Toomey gig... if Toomey was from anywhere in Western PA he'd be the nominee, it's that simple. It wasn't that they didn't turn out conservatives, it's that he wasn't able to get enough independents to break out of the "support the incumbent" mindset. C'est la vie.
I saw these two articles this morning and was wondering if anyone else saw some inconsistency on Nancy Pelosi's part:
Pelosi defends right to Communion (http://www.contracostatimes .com/mld/cctimes/news/8557192.htm)
Top Democrat berates McDermott for pledge omission (http://seattletimes.nwsourc e.com/html/localnews/2001916516_mcdermott 30.html)
9-11 Commission stories are pathetic... I used to harbor some respect for Lee Hamilton as a conservative Dem here in Indiana, but no more... that's just uncalled for and unecessary. I think Hannity had a funny take on it (he almost sounded like Jim Rome).
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe... God Bless and hopefully I'll be able to participate a little more than I have lately.

It's only in the 40s here today and overcast. *Also, we're expecting some rain later on. *The growing things sure liked the two warm days we had, though. *Hyacinths grew about 3 inches in two days. *I have pink and purple ones. *It should smell good outside within a week. *I can't stand them in the house. *Their aroma is so strong it gives my allergies a twist and gives me a headache, but I do like them outside.
I had a perfectly wonderful post all ready to go yesterday and I swung around to get something off the bed (I use it as a sub-desk), my hand hit the keyboard and it took off like a big-@$$ed http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bird16.gif !!
Charlie Sykes had a good show this morning, during which he told how he morphed from a liberal to a conservative. *His grandfather was a liberal and so was his father (who was a member of the WCLU, Wisconsin Civil Liberty's Union). *Charlie himself, was the president of the Young Democrats of Wisconsin. *So boy, has he come a long way. *He'll be interviewing V.-President Cheney when he's in Wisconsin. * Cheney will be in the state for a speech at the Pfister Hotel and in Wrightstown at a plant that just hired a bunch of new workers and is going full-bore. *The owner says that the tax relief they got was an integral part of their growth. *He's been all over the local news. *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yelclap.gif * http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yelclap.gif
pRIM re: that article you gave us the link to about the woman getting all these women to give the troops a "sensual" moment before they go to Iraq. *The last quote was something like "I wanted to give them something to remember." *I'm thinking the gift that keeps on giving............VD .
Attended a Party for the President last night. *Contributed my cream cheese roll-ups. *There were quite a few MIAs. *There were 10 of us if you include the two little ones. *The one who was 1 year old had the biggest heart-touching grin I've ever seen. *Every time he looked at someone he had this huge grin, just so open and trusting......... gave me a little lump in my throat.
We had Cheney's talk on the internet on two computers and on one he came on several minutes later than the other for some reason or another. A young boy asked him a question and it wasn't hard to figure out why he was picked to ask a question: *His first name is Cheney. *One of the Appleton state representatives was there and while we were schmoozing after his little prepared talk, he told us that he went to school with Karl Rove and they still keep in touch. *There was some talk about higher education then and our hostess volunteered that her mother had a Ph. D and her father had a G.E.D. *I thought it was one of the better lines of the evening. http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laff.gif *The young couple who were there with their children are new to the area but eager to support the president and help get him re-elected. * Yesssss! *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif
They're talking about that http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/jacka.gif who wrote the column in the university newspaper calling Pat Tillman an idiot and a Rambo for going to war in Afghanistan. * http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/doh.gif *Even a lot of the libs backed the war in Afghanistan. *This is an anti-war, anti-Bush activist who loves anything that goes against our country and is against anything that is good about our country. *It isn't too hard to figure out. *Wonder why the idiot editor didn't cut that piece of garbage?? *It wasn't even a think piece; actually just an ad hominem attack on a dead hero.
Quote[/b] ]It is fair to partly shabby here in Central Wyoming this morning
Is this a local saying? *I love it! *http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yelclap.gif
I'm getting very nervous that this post might suffer an untoward "accident" so will now hit "Add Reply" and come back later.

The student was just a typical immature idiot, very common in college. The Editor, though, should have known better. Do you think we could have that classified as "Hate Speech"? If Pat Tillman had been African-American or Hispanic, would that have been tolerated? The colleges are still in the sixties. It's time for them to grow up and join the real world.

Quote[/b] (flowerpower @ April 30, 2004 -- 10:28 am)]I have questions about our guys torturing the iraq prisoners. First of all...why...and who in command would let this happen? Next...why is there video made? Who made it ??
Why did it land in CBS??? Now the arab network has it..I think I smell a rat..
Someone...somewhere. ..needs to be disciplined. This cannot go on in our military....that is if this is so
All very fair and necessary questions, Flower.
A couple of observations from this Soldier:
-- Just like our schools, just like our offices, just like our society in general, the Army isn't perfect and has its share of bad apples. Soldiers are not trained to do this as part of their duty. Unfortunately, all the training in the World is sometimes not enough to offset the perverted actions of just a few misguided individuals. There's your "few idiots", GR.
-- The reaction by the chain of command was harsh and quick. Before I had heard very much about the episode, I heard General Kimmitt, the lead military spokesman in Baghdad condemning the act. He apologized to the Iraqi people. He apologized to the American people. He stated there would be a thorough investigation.
And although certainly not required, he offered that the Army--not the military, not the United States, but the Army--was embarrassed that its soldiers would do something like that. As a retired Army officer I can assure everyone that this statement sends a powerful message to the entire U.S. Army.
--The general officer responsible for this unit has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of an investigation. We may hear two liberal sticking points: 1. The general is a Reserve general, so critics will ask why was a Reserve unit involved, not an active duty unit? And, 2. the general is (excuse me, ladies) female, and I can guess what the feminist groups are going to start yelling. Generals have a lot of authority. Incumbent with their authority is a lot or responsibility. I'm absolutely, positively certain that this General did not know about this incident before it occured. However, she fully understands the stakes involved and will step aside until the matter is investigated and, if punishment is deemed appropriate, will accept whatever her superiors hand down.
And of course there are sergeants and lieutenants and captains and colonels who will have to answer questions as well.
Sorry about the long discourse--short answer: the Army's been hurt by this but will openly get to the bottom of it.

Thank you Dave!! You are right!
I saw a picture of this person in command on drudge. I know there are all types of people in this world. Maybe one in this deal thought it would be cute..and the rest followed along.

RIM, you have no avatar. It has been so long since I have seen your avatar that I forgot what it looked like. Some sort of attack bird?
I agree RIM, that our troops have to be better than Saddam’s people were to their prisoners. But as I think about the way they treated their prisoners I guess we better not use their actions as a metric. A person could wear himself out and not be close to what they did to their own people.

I saw a quick look at the Iraqi prisoners. Looks like they got humiliated. Too bad. I hate to think what they do to our people when they get a hold of them (especially our female soldiers) Or perhaps a civilian contractor, or a Haliburton Employee, or a news reporter. I'm not condoning the actions of some boorish American soldiers, but there is no moral equivilancy here.

I haven't seen any pics of the Iraqi's, but I tend to agree with ML that there can hardly be any comparison to what they do with our prisoners of war.
It's warmish here, too. But summer here in this part of NC, is in the upper 90's & 100's and more sweltering than it is right now. It was fairly nice today so we ate supper outside, tonight.
Yesterday I went in for my first allergy shot; and had a terrible reaction to it. Much of the broohaha about Fallujah and Najaf has been about the alledged "humiliation" of the Iraqis. Our troops are not supposed to enter the women's quarters in suspected houses (even if the women aren't there) because it's "humiliating". Can't handcuff prisoners hands behind their backs because it's "humiliating". I'm not making this up. The whole Intefada in Israel is because Ariel Sharon walked onto the Temple Mount, humiliating the Muslims. 9/11 happened because Bin Laden was humiliated by Americans based in Saudi Arabia. We are dealing with an enormous cultural divide here. Revenge, Shame, and Humiliation are pillars of their society. Naked prisoners with bags over their heads and laughing Americans (including FEMALES!!!) is an intolerable humiliation for them. Their response is always revenge revenge revenge. I love our president and pray for him daily, but I have to wonder if Iraq will ever be a true democratic society as long as they stay immersed in thier tribal, misogynist, 8th century culture. It's a dilemna. As Pa Dutchman said in another Thread, there is only One who can change these people. It's a TALL order!

Good Evening All: Whew, what a day. Quote[/b] ] BTW, DA ~ what's with the driving 43 miles to mow a lawn? RIM, this was the wife's house in Garner, NC. Her daughter is a teacher and doesn't get home till late each day - she is going to hire someone to cut the grass but hasn't done it yet. We were just helping out. It is a big acre with lots of trees and flowers to mow around.
The reservists that mistreated the prisoners need their collective butts kicked. Not only gave the military a black eye, but also made the country look as if we use the same tactics of one Saddam Hussein. When you have that many troops involved in the war, you are bound to run across some of little or no character. Only takes one action like this to hurt so many. Its obvious that they were not getting the supervision they required.
RIM, no trouble with your avatar - in fact no troubles at all http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I wish y’all didn’t all watch FOX News so that I could tell you something new.
It is so funny to watch kerry talk about what he would do is elected. *He hardly waits a day before goes on a rant about how Bush has failed in this or that, steals Bush agendi and then pretends that he has original ideas. *
I have to agree with General Barns (FOX News contributor) on his plan to crush Fallujah.
I see everything now RIM. *
I would pay good money to see Terri turned loose on the torture girl. *Most of the Arab world has never seen or heard about the torture Saddam wrought upon the people of Iraq but they have all seen these pictures. *Everyone involved or complicit should do a lot of hard labor for this. *It doesn’t matter at all at this point if the pictures are real or not. *Americans will die because of this stupidity.
Speaking of hot; I’m starting to wish that Algore hadn’t invented global warming.

The actions of the reservists were stupid and not in line with the proud traditions of our military. But as you so succinctly put it, the Arab world will never see the atrocities that have been committed by Saddam and his minions. Even when they do see it, however, they seem to give it a pass because it's from one of their own. I still can't see any moral equivilancy between this one incident and the thousands of mass graves, rape rooms, torture chambers, porno palaces, corruption, death, and evil of the Iraqi regime. The Arab world can't stand the thought of a democracy in their midst, and will do everything within their power to stop it.

Sorry to get you all http://www.gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif , pRIM. *LAW was the one who posted the link. *I went back and looked. *And my *comment still stands. *
LAW, just hope that gang doesn't get over to Germany. *It's really quite disgusting when you think about it a little.
I'm still of the opinion that the Nightline reading of all the dead and their pictures is politicization of the first water, of our people in Iraq.I think it is despicable. *This isn't done as a memorial. *It's done as a ratings "sweeps" item. *It serves a dual purpose. *For the Nightline ratings (which have been sagging for a long time) and to personalize the war for people who don't think very far ahead. *If you put a name and a face on every dead hero, your people will be clamoring for the troops to be brought home. *It's bad enough now. *What will it be after this? I heard Koppel on Hannity's show today and thought I'd be sick when he brought in the mom and dad who were crying when they called because their dead child wasn't going to be listed with all the rest.
In a war, people die. *Part of a soldier's business is death, their own or someone else's. *If every other country and the assorted terrorists around the world would only follow "civilized" rules we wouldn't even need an army, but they don't. *They act like barbarians and kill everyone seemingly indiscriminately. *I won't touch on our own little beasts who tortured Iraqis. *They're not representative of the majority of our forces. *
We've become a nation of wusses and whiners. *It's disgusting.
Sorry, this seems to have become a rant. I'm too tired to move it over there, though.
Have a good night.

It breaks my heart. For thirty years we have struggled to rehabilitate the image of our Vietnam Vets, who were spat upon, reviled and abused on their return home. Most Vietnam Vets are decent, intelligent , brave , loyal guys and did not deserve the treatment they got from the country they served.
